Saw him down as playing in the game before last I think, definitely quite recently. Forgot about Stevie Gavin; he's a shoe in. Only reason I left out Goggins and Keane was because they play for our team, I said from other teams so as not to be unbiased...

Add Joe Keane and Gary Goggins to that list from Fahy. We're 4th in the table and will have players in the Oscar Traynor squad if we keep our current form up. Gary has hit 10 goals in 9 games this season, cant ignore that as Mayo manager and the way Joe Keane is playing at centre back cant be ignored either.
Dont think Navin will make it this year, Horkan is injured and Hoban will have to up it a gear. Gorman from Ballina, Price from Celtic and Gerry Burke and Johny O'Connor from Ballyheane will be close too.
fair enough, ye have shown with yer results that ye deserve one or two players on it and 10 goals in 9 games is a fantastic return.
pricey is with the a league team, scored against dundalk, not sure if he will play any more super league games but i could be wrong.
stevie ryan played and scored against dundalk last week

From the games ive been at stevie ryan has either started or came off the bench, doenst seem to be gettin a regular spot with the 2 centre backs playing well and the middle of the park seems to be tight aswell.

Seen him on the CT there actually, was thinking he wasn't playing that much. Very strong squad now, would never have put Stephenson down as a LOI player or Chris Rowland but their showing up well...

Straide and Foxford are Under rated and will come good soon, Decent game against ballina town in the semi final and looked by far the better team. They will turn it around, the ability is there but results and performances far and few between

I think its very healthy that we're coming off the pitch feeling dissappointed everytime we lose. We are in the super league though if we look at it realistically I'd have taken 12 points from first 8 games.
We didn't play as bad as you suggest. S & F had more chances than us but I thought we defended well up until the sending off which threw us into defence and then they scored almost immediately. We did miss a peno to equalise and had another great chance too. S & F got one on the break as last kick of game.
Forget about it and roll on Ballina next week. Might do neighbours a favour ;)

ah i'm not saying that we shouldn't be disappointed at getting beaten by s and f or by any other team for that matter.and 12 points is a very good return from the first 8 games.just felt going into the game yesterday that we might have finally been able to get a win against s and f after the few beatings that we took last year.still the return fixture to try and reverse that result though i suppose!
heard that the sending off was a bit harsh as it was a second yellow and the first yellow was soft enough?its disappointing to lose a goal with the last kick of the game especially as we were chasing the game at the time.maybe this could be the result that sees s and f get their season back on track.
with ballyheane winning at the weekend against westport it blows the title race right open.good for the game in mayo i think and maybe it will generate a bit more interest in the super league in the coming weeks.

just want to ask you all what you think off refs this season?is it just me or are the standards dropping ?ive watched a few games this season and im surprised at the amount off times westport get castlebar refs.one clearly cost port lge cup game in ballina and almost cost a lad his playing days.saw another give a cat penalty in premier lge game saturday evening in westport and i believe the same ref has done three b games and given four penalties against westport ???i have been told the first ref even had a game moved so he could watch celtic in the a league.whats the story ????????

I saw the game, was a definate second yellow, the big akward man didnt mean it but lead with his elbow for every single high ball and it was only a matter of time that he caught someone proper with it and did so nearly breakin the centre backs nose.
All the same it was an entertaining game with many chances, Paul Fitz should have had it wrapped up, unlike him, missed 2 one on ones but tormented the Fahy back line through out.

Oh no here we go again. Its not a sin to give freekicks or penaltys against Westport. The standard of refs has been good this season, some of the guys who took it up a few seasons ago seem to improving all the time. Theres always a few exceptions mind you, but its rarely you will see them in SL or premier games. By the way most of the referees are from Castlebar.

ballina gone top on goal difference with westport having a game in hand.
i think a westport defeat was on the cards, it will be interesting to see how they react but it has definetley opened up the league, erris are still there and there abouts also.
on our behalf, it was a poor result. i didn't see the game so i don't know what it was like but we need to start picking up points especially with s&f getting their first win of the season. i believe celtic will stay up, its just a matter of getting a win and getting a bit of confidence back, i hope!!!

agreed, can't see what quayheart is hoping to gain from this post. i have seen a fair few sl games and the reffing has been decent and some of them have had to ref games with no linesmen. as rava said, the majority of refs are castlebar based and none of them have a vengenance against westport or any other team for that matter. they are doing a job that an awful lot of people can't or won't do, they should be praised and not slated for the odd mistake. they are there for the good of the game and without them we would have no football

For the love of God you are attacking the referees because they are from Castlebar??? :o
Based on your post you are basing this call on been at a few matches and hearsay from the B games, would the B team have lost these matches by any chance?
"Been told" and "believe" really don't prove a basis for daft statements. The story is that you are listening to too much pub talk!
As the lads said the big number of refs are from Castlebar so the easiest thing to do it say they are bias towards Castlebar!
Best thing for you to do it go and do the referees course and see how you get on, or else find out why Westport has only 1 ref (that i know of at senior level).

S n F Did exactly that with a well deserved win over fahy. Fitzy shud have buried a couple of one on ones but did torment they fahy defence for the entire game. Impressive stuff from the youngsters with experience missing in J.Jordan, S.Hughes and J.O'Hara. Young lads stepped up and played well. Will be interesting how the next couple of games go.

I think people are being diplomatic here so as not to offend anyone. For me the standard of referreeing is absolutely abysmal to be honest. Decisions being made from the halfway line, ludicrous penalties, bias towards the bigger teams. I always find it humourous to see Mayo league refs calling foul throws; it's the only thing they can give with any authority. You never see a referee bothering with them in football of any decent standard. Also, I cant stand the officiousness of most refs; you cant say boo to them without them crying and brandishing cards. I know it's a hard job and all that but that does not excuse the fact that people can't do their job properly. Damian Mc Grath and the big bald Dublin buck are the only two who consistently perform well that come to mind.
As for the 12th man getting upset about this; Quay Heart is fully within his rights to give his opinion, it's fitting that a referee would get on his high horse and start crying about that post.

The refs are bad for everyone though, not just for Westport. Quay heart is suggesting that castlebar refs are against westport...think its just down to lack of knowledge, authority and fitness of the refs!

Fair enuf.
Any way, Intersting to see Ballina top of the table..just shows what standard the super league is in this year..well below usual! any team in the super league on a good day should be able to beat any other team which has been unlikely for i dunno how many years but now the likes of westport and celtic can be beatin easily. its good for the lower teams but proves a drop in quality overall, although you could argue a rise in quality overall but if you've watch many matches this season already...that is not the case, with the new A league, bringing top players out of the league.

What is this posting supposed to mean ?
Ballina are top because they are a damn fine team.
Any team can beat anybody ? - Not really unless you mean the Heane.
'Top players out of the league' is a ridiculous comment. They have just taken Celtic and added a few journeymen. Note that they have taken none from the port who were and still are the best team in the county par none.
Ask any genuine Celtic 'head' are they now better than the Port and they will say no. No on players and certainly no in style.

I'm not in the least bit upset,it's just that the point has been laboured on foot.ie for as long as I've been around and in the end it's people bitching about the standard of work in a job that (almost) nobody wants to do-great money or not.
I've stood in for a few games when there was no ref and I'll tell you it's thankless as every important decision you give upsets aprox 50% of the players/crowd.I've had people that I know abuse me from the sideline even though they know I'm not a ref and only reffing so as there would be a game.
If younger fitter men applied for the refs course it would be a help but until players & supporters ease it off a bit on refs we'll still be having the same debate in 10 years time-that's if it's not even worse then.

Don't get me wrong..westport r by far the best team in mayo, without a doubt but they ain't lost many players but they are not playin at the same level as they used too! still great quality players there but not the same determination ... somethin missin. to me it looks like the westport players need a new challenge, bein the main team in mayo for years now with almost the same group of players.. looks like they gettin bored and luckily celtic got that new challenge. Would be interesting to add the westport team to the A league! wud deplete the super league but would give all the youth players a high Aim and Raise the possiblity of mayo youths making a real name for themselves.
Ballina are a good side but similarliy alot of young players have come in and the team they had 3 years ago, wud hammer the young lads playin now.
As for celtic, its their B team with every single player being under 25-26 par one or two.

this has been brought up before. in the past 2-3 years our senior team has been inferior to westport, now as a league of ireland team, i feel that 11 v 11 we are very even with very little in between.
however, we will never know who is better so no point bringing it up and talking about it anymore.
our league of ireland team should not be talked about on this thread as this is for super league teams and issues

Why do people think Westport are bored and need a new challenge? Dont get it! They look like a team to me that are still hungry to win games and have a few injuries at the moment which are making life difficult. There are about 5 players in that current crop good enough for Galway or Sligo so im sure if they needed a new challenge they could step it up to that level. Obviously none of them were ever going to join Celtic which is a pity for Celtic! Imagine that A squad with Lawless, Geraty, Scahill, Cameron and O'Malley in it. Think they would be sitting on top of table now...

I completely agree but westport should enter they're own team into the A League, they just as good as celtic A now. then we'd see, and prove to the entire country that mayo football can play at a higher level then Junior... A step that Mayo football needs to be aiming for, even though, Westport and Celtic A are the only teams really well and truely able to perform day in day out at this level..This is where we need to aim for.

Do you genuinely believe that the A Division is a higher level ? We were told this before about the Under 20 league and this was proved patently false.
Dont get me wrong here, it should be a higher standard but some clubs do not treat it as their priority and the old adage as only being as good as the weakest component jars a little here.
Let me put it another way. Would the current Celtic A be top of the Super league now ?
Just in case you misinterpret this as a slight on Celtic it is not as they are going the right way about improving their lot it just seems a long laborious journey.

I actually think they would, given how Westport have been playing. The thing is though, if Celtic were to be in the Super League (their A team I mean) then Westport would automatically up their game, so it's hard to tell. The more I think of it, the more I'm convinced that the whole Super league is suffering because of Celtic's absence. Not that I'm complaining, Fahy are partially where they are because of the lack of competitiveness of the division.

Have you been at a A league match, doubt it somehow. The Westport team that took the pitch against Ballyheane would struggle to beat any team in the A league never mind Celtic.

excatly, i do not know how you can say that the a league is similar standard to the super league.
if you seen derry city or finn harps play you would take back your statement straight away. the a league is streets ahead of the super league (no disrespect to the sl), ask anyone that has played in it.
there is no comparison.
as for westport, i think their first team would survive in the a league, however i dont think that they would survive long term. they dont own their own ground and the sports park probably isn't up to scratch and also have they the youths coming through to survive in the league of ireland long term?? their lack of success would suggest not

this has been brought up before. in the past 2-3 years our senior team has been inferior to westport, now as a league of ireland team, i feel that 11 v 11 we are very even with very little in between.
however, we will never know who is better so no point bringing it up and talking about it anymore.
our league of ireland team should not be talked about on this thread as this is for super league teams and issues
Come out of the clouds man will you. You`re not a league of ireland team, just a junior team with a few journey men who have ideas about themselves. The quality of some players in your team highlights this fact.
its big boys toys at its worst from what i have seen of the standard.

within 5 years i can almost guarentee us being in the first division while ye are still playing junior football. we are playing against better standard opposition in the likes of united park and the brandywell and yet you can't see that we are progressing as a club and ye are happy in yer little comfort zone.
we have two teams playing in the league of ireland so we are still a junior club are we?? i congratulated ye lot on winning the connaught senior cup, you cant do the same can you?? take off the rose tinted glasses and see like everyone else on this thread and in mayo football that this is only a good thing for mayo football and castlebar celtic!! at the end of the day, whether you like it or not, mayo now has 2 teams competing in the league of ireland. fact! :ball::D

I said this before but you lot were the only ones willing to make up the numbers from the west as a token gesture. The "A" league farce you are in is a waste of money and time travelling around the regions with little or no support for it in castlebar you will be broke in no time.Go to the fai website and you`d want to be an archaeoligist to dig out the A league section. You`ll be back in the mayo league where ye belong soon enough.

no disrespect to the SL but the A league is way quicker and a lot more football played on the ground. this can only benefit celtic who at times play some lovely football on the ground and thats from playin against teams that like to play likewise. so westside i'd love to know how you think it's a junior team with a few journey men, it's players who want to play at a higher standard in better p[itches and learn how to play football the right way with passing and movement. and we are a senior team, we have 2 league of ireland teams. do i sense a hint of jealousy coming through again??? typical!

Playing football on the ground?Your supporters all have cricks in their necks from watching ye the last few years as d.flynn the javelin thrower is still getting a game with ye.Jealousy not an issue as your just junior wannabees, and you`ll be a long time trying to get into the first division at most with many teams up the pecking order waiting for a team to pull out.

read the papers and see do we play ball on the ground. yes we do, ask nuetrals who have been at games do we play ball on ground, yes we do.
you are completely jealous of the fact that castlebar celtic are miles ahead of westport both on and off the pitch and you will never be as good as us again.
this saturday we play tullamore town in celtic park at 7.30pm. maybe you might come over to the county town and see a league of ireland game for yourself in your home county!!!
