Would Shane Lowry be the first Australian born player to line out for Ireland, either under-age or senior level?... he'd be our own tony Dorigo.
Gartland is now on trial at Leicester, maybe that's his level.

Anybody here of Brendan Moloney who played for Notts Forest on Saturday. According to the link below he is Irish.
http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=46368
I'm a Kerryman and a Forest fan, so obviously I've been keenly following Brendan's progress at the club for a little while.
Recalled from his loan spell at Rusden, he was thrown into the team against Barnsley as a last throw of the dice by the manager Colin Calderwood - as we were desperately exposed at right back throughout the season.
Given how shakey our back four has been, Brendan has been a breath of fresh air. He's very mature for his age and comfortable on the ball, getting forward in support of his winger. It's this positional awareness that's bailed out our centre halves on a couple of occasions, leaving the wing to clear up in the middle of the box.
After five games, Moloney's only mistake was away at Coventry, when he was slow into the game and let a man arrive at the back post to score after 90 seconds, behind his back. Despite this, he did recover well and featured prominently in a much improved second half performance by the team.
Blackpool came to the City Ground the next week and pretty much offered nothing going forward, so he didn't have much to do in the way of defending. However, again, he overlapped nicely and ensured Forest pinned them in, even if there were no goals. Moloney picked up the man of the match award from the sponsors.
Most recently, he turned in a good performance away at Southampton and played a key part in the second goal (which is a bit of a screamer as it is). Brendan is the lad who picks up the ball and drives forward, before passing it off:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ilxHcif20Vo
Overall, he's now first choice right back at the club, although there is a chance we could sign someone more experienced in January - I would expect Moloney to have a big future at Forest and for Ireland.

Brendan Maloney looks like a giant in that utube footage
which could be a plus for us as we have a lot of small players

He's 6ft 1inch, so tall enough for a full back to help out with defending set pieces.

Any chance of playing him at centre-half? Seem to have a few right fulls.

Doubtful.
I think he can job there, as well as right midfield, but full back would be his natural position. Forest have a derth of right backs and quite a few centre backs around, so there's not much chance of him getting a game there either.

Good work Tets.
It's frightening to see Killer Kilbane last started a game for Wigan back in October. I just hope the Trap has noticed the two lads playing at full back for Wolves this season. Unfortunately he had his chance to blood Foley and Ward against Poland but decided against it. Both have impressed me every time I've seen Wolves this season.

Interesting to see Foley playing in midfield again for Wolves.
I think Foley can work his way into the starting XI sometime during this campaign, either at right full or centre-mid.
I just hope the games still matter at that stage.
Also, I guess we'll be keeping an eye on Graham Gartland as an "Irish Player Abroad" now that he's signed with St. Johnstone on a free for the rest of the season. Hopefully he can use that as a springboard to greater things.

Both played in the B game against Forest at Dalymount. I didn't see much of Foley from where I was sitting, but Ward was right in front of me for the second half. Looked comfortable on the ball, gave Andrews an option to play the ball to when he came deep, and tried to release Hoolahan whenever possible.

Irish Abroad statistics for December 2008: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/december.xquery
The Reading trio Stephen Hunt (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=17143), Kevin Hunt (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=34469) and Kevin Doyle (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=41354) won the most games, picking up three points on five separate occasions
Swansea's Thomas Butler (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=14777) started the most draws, the Dubliner finished the month with five draws
Butler was also the join most booked player, picking up three yellow cards, along with David Van Zanten (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=17856)
Shay Given (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=2898) finished the twelfth month as the goalkeeper with the most wins (two) and losses (also two)
However it was Glenn Whelan (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=26767), Rory Delap (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=1999), David Bell (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=23804), Andy O'Brien (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=9719) and Gary Doherty (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=12910) who tied for the worst month. Each player came away with nothing from a game five times
Kevin Doyle, Stephen Hunt and Clinton Morrison (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=10566) all started the same number of games - seven - but it was only the duo playing for the Royals who completed 90 minutes each time
Noel Hunt was the most substituted player. The Reading striker was withdrawn from the action six times, four of these were at home
Similarly Reading's Shane Long (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=41355) was introduced from the bench five times, along with Leon Best (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=38733) and Lee Trundle (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=12919)
Clinton Morrison scored four of his ten goals this season in December, however Coventry only won one of the four games where he found the net

Irish Abroad statistics for season to date: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/halfWayReport.xquery
Kevin Foley (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=32354) has started the most wins this season, the Luton born player has won 19 games this season for Wolves.
Richard Dunne (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=10583) has won the fourth most games so far (11) but also lost the fourth most (10)
Unsurprisingly, Championship players dominate the most starts chart, with six players (Sean St Ledger (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=34723), Kevin Foley, Chris McCann (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=41613), Stephen Hunt (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=17143), Stephen Quinn (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=41911) and Lee Carlsey (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=1329)) all starting 28 times for their respective clubs
Incredibly, Foley has completed 90 minutes in each of his games
Kieran Westwood (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=37039) is the only goalkeeper to be substituted in 2008/2009
Despite the column inches dedicated to the number of Robbie Keane (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=11957)'s substitutions (16) Noel Hunt (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=34469) has been substituted more. The Reading player has been withdrawn 17 times
Shane Long (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=41355) was introduced more than any other player, and by some distance. The striker came off the bench 19 times, Lee Trundle (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=12919) and Andy Keogh (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=39039) are in join second with 15 points
With goalkeepers the least likely player to be introduced, it's not too surprising that Shane Supple (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=38716) has stayed on the bench 28 times this season for Ipswich. However, more troubling is that Darren O'Dea (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=41533) has been benched 16 times so far in 2008/2009
Kevin Doyle (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=41354) is by far the top Irish goalscorer this season, with 16 goals in 26 games. What makes it more astonishing is that none of these are penalties. Fellow Royal (albeit on loan) Scott Davies (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=46717) is the top penalty taker, finding the net five times from 12 yards (including two in one game) while at Aldershot
Despite Doyle's record, it is Noel Hunt who is the leading talisman for the season so far, Reading have won each of the nine games where Hunt has scored

Still waiting for Garry Breen's league debut, he's made a few squads at Hereford but none recently but I think he's been playing for their reserves. Interestingly, this Breen is now a league above the "real" Gary Breen who is now at Barnet.

How did they do?
Watched the game earlier- both of them looked dangerous at times, especially Treacy; however, both of them scuffed opportunities and wasted possession far too often for my liking.
The potential is definitely there for both of them (Judge looked particularly tricky), but they're raw and need more time to develop, maybe out on loan.
Treacy is a big, physical athlete of a player- I compared him to a young Kilbane with maybe a little less brawn and a touch more talent before, and I'd stick with that comment.
I think he will make it in the Premiership at some stage of his career simply due to his physique and athleticism, and due to Allardyce's style of play, I think he has every chance to succeed at Blackburn.
I don't see Judge making the grade at Blackburn, at least not while Allardyce is around. He's a small, tricky winger. He's got some talent, but won't suit Allardyce's 4-3-3 unless he can learn to play as an attacking wide player.
It's my first time seeing Judge so don't take my observations as gospel, but there you go.

Regarding simon cox, the Irish Times list of Irish players is probably not the most reliable source as they constantly fail to list many players each week. It is probably best to email the FAI itself to ask if he is eligable as if he actually is, it's no good unless they actually know about him.

Stephen Hunt (http://oneteaminireland.blogspot.com/2009/01/stephen-hunt-picks-up-championship.html) picks up Championship Player Of The Month award for December
Reading and Ireland midfielder Stephen Hunt has won the December Powerade Player of the Month Award in the Coca-Cola Championship.
Hunt's performances were at the heart of a fantastic month for Reading, which saw them pick up 17 points from their seven league fixtures.
The Irish international's impressive displays helped the Royals to five straight wins at the beginning of the month, including his eighth goal of the season in the victory against Norwich. Two solid draws against Cardiff and Southampton rounded off an unbeaten December to help Reading close the gap on league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers as they head into 2009.
Chris Kamara, chairman of the Powerade Player of the Month Awards panel, said:
"Stephen Hunt has been in terrific form for Reading since the start of the season and December was no exception. His driving displays from the heart of midfield were instrumental in his side's fine performances, which saw the Royals remain unbeaten throughout December and notch five consecutive wins in a row that culminated in an outstanding away victory at promotion rivals Birmingham City."

What makes you think he's eligible? Capped for England for U16 and U17. Can't see any reason why he'd want to play for us.

44. David McGoldrick (Southampton)
The 21-year-old striker has nine goals this term for the Saints and is tipped to go marching on to bigger things for his all-round ability. Still not sure about this guy
22. Kieran Westwood (Coventry City)
Signed from Carlisle United last summer for £450,000, the 24-year-old goalkeeper is already said to be worth ten times that amount and his manager, Chris Coleman, rates him as the best ‘keeper outside the Premier League.
But I don't know what the criteria for the list is.(Fabio Da Silva is at no.9 but Rafael Da Silva doesn't make an appearance?)

Point taken, but you seldom put him in your updates on here, The lad has been let down and treated poorly by the selection panel who pick the Ireland squad.
Not even given a chance at "B" Level or in friendlies!
I find it hard to understand how a player who plays well week in week out, sweeps the board at his clubs Player of the Year Awards.
Wins the North West Player of the Year Award, yet still gets overlooked, whilst players of much lesser ability such as McShane and Bruce, keep getting picked.

This has been debated a few times on here and he is English not Irish and he is not related to Eddie. But who knows maybe he can borrow one of Stephen Ireland's grannies.

This must be about the 10th time I've seen a very similar post to this from you on this forum. We know by now he's the Championship North Player of 2008. We know he won a load of other awards. We know you think he's better than McShane and Bruce. Move on a bit now. By all means keep us updated on his every game. I'm biased towards McGeady but I'll still post here and tell you if he has a poor game.
