Manc Irish Wolf
18/02/2009, 8:55 PM
Whats going on at Wolves? Mancs, you haven't been the same since Preston beat you at home.
Is it just bad luck or have the team just not played well?
One win in nine can't be bad luck. Combination of things - Keeper lacking confidence, unsettled backline, over defensive centre midfield, over reliance on wingers, unsettled strike partnership, and increasingly thick, ignorant, pessimistic fans expecting/inviting failure (myself obviously not included).
Hopefully we'll turn it around - however seriously think that this could be one of the most testing periods in McCarthy's career. He does everything right. Has a good eye for talent, assembles a strong team, has us playing simple football - however, there is always the potential stumbling block of him making irrational decisions and being stubborn to a fault when he is under pressure. If he could get over that, he might kick on and progress further as a manager, however only time will tell.
You boys are going well. How's Elliott doing for you?

Macclesfield don't sign Garry Breen
The former Lincoln City boss had previously targeted a central defender as his top priority and ran the rule over former Hereford defender Garry Breen on trial, but Alexander revealed he was unable to extend his stay at Moss Rose.
"He has moved on now because although I wanted to bring another centre-back in, I wasn't able do to so, as I've already got four on the books," he added.
"It was disappointing I couldn't add him to the squad though because he was a very good player.
"We've got Richard Walker back from suspension and both Shaun Brisley and Matty Flynn have done well, as they are still young lads, so at this moment in time we are doing okay."

I wonder how it works financially then..Are the players now contractually obliged to Glenn Hoddle somehow and subject to a transfer fee when they find a club?? Are they paying to stay at the accademy themselves?? Or does the academy act as an agent entitling them to percentages when they find a club down the line etc??

Fenlon completed his last bit of business on the transfer front last night when he snapped up Ireland U21 cap Graham Carey on loan from Celtic.
Dubliner Carey, who was at Shelbourne before his move to Parkhead in 2005, has been offered a contract extension at Celtic by Gordon Strachan, but the Parkhead chief wants forward Carey to get some first-team experience and has agreed to let the player come to Dalymount Park on loan until the summer.

He's still with the U19s. Haven't seen much of him as only reserve games are televised and he's only made a couple of sub appearances for them. He came off the bench for the reserves against Hibs on Wednesday. He's a winger that'll take on his opponent and looks to put in plenty of effort.
Celtic reserves are trying to fit Mizuno, McCourt and McGinn into the team so they obviously feel Carey needs to go out to get a game at a higher level. Even though Mizuno and McCourt should be first team squad players by now at least.

nope, not related, just the same name
Got a mention a few times on the forum before as well
The manager at Millwall used to be the manager of the youth team at Man City, so he's taken a few players from the side. Karl Moore was on loan there until Christmas.

Old Trap was apparently at the Wolves v Palace game yesterday. Foley was his usual reliable self, whereas Keogh apparently showed a few touches of sublime skill when he came on (although increasingly true to form missed a sitter on a one on one with the keeper). Unfortunately Ward was injured.
Also had the chance to see Scannell & Stokes, although assume the former didn't perform too well being replaced by Stokes in the 2nd half.

Old Trap was apparently at the Wolves v Palace game yesterday. Some would accuse you of ageism.
I was thinking of going down but weather was beyond foul. Still, good to hear Il Capo is out and about. Doc Peepee take note :)
Also good to see Wolves back on the winning trail.

Long and Hunt, moreso than Doyle. They had a very effective partnership the last time Reading were in the Championship, so he's hardly likely to be dropped.
Mooney (on loan from Reading) notches one for Norwich, set up by that other former LOI player, Wes Hoolahan
from BBC:
"David Mooney gets on the score sheet with a goal from inside the area high into the middle of the goal. Norwich 1-0 Cardiff.Wesley Hoolahan provided the assist for the goal."

Long did score twice today though it was against bottom club Charlton. 4 of his 6 goals this year have come against the 3 teams in the relegation zone.
Doyle was today tied by Jason Scotland for 2nd top scorer in the CCC behind Sylvan Ebanks-Blake

Gibson on the bench, despite United having nearly everybody fit, only Hargreaves would make a difference. Uniteds starting lineup is arguably their strongest, and so by correllation, their strongest bench.
