Coventry broke their 23 year drought at St. Andrew's with a 1-0 win.

Morrison scored a header off a corner.

Our good Catholic boy, Westwood, apparently was brilliant with a clean sheet performance.

Clinton Morrison (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=10566) scored his third goal in three games, seems to be on another scoring streak

Irish Abroad Statistics for October 2008: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/october.xquery
Strangely enough, Owen Garvan (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=40419) was the top goalscorer, finding the net three times
Paddy McCarthy (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=26769) picked up the most bookings, the Palace player was shown the yellow card three times
Aiden McGeady (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=38265) and Jon Macken (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=10775) were the leading talismans (talismen??) for their teams. Each time they scored, their teams went on to win

Thought O'Dea did well when he came on today, some good clearances.

Didn't see the first half, so I missed most of Sheridan's time on the field..

Where was McGeady? Didn't see his name on the squad list even? Did he pick up an injury?

Irish Abroad for Tuesday, 4th November 2008: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/dateDetails.xquery?seasonID=138&date=2008-11-04
Robbie Keane (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=11957) was substituted again for Liverpool, he's only completed two of the 14 games he's started for the Reds
Willo Flood (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=36241) started the 3-3 draw against Rangers. It's the third draw away from home for the Irishman, the most likely outcome of any result away from home when he starts
If Kevin Thornton (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=42163) starts the next game for Brighton, it'll be the most consecutive games he's started all season, after starting twice in a row 2 times, both for Brighton
Graham Coughlan (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=9690) netted his third of the season

Irish Abroad for Wednesday, 5th November 2008: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/dateDetails.xquery
If Aiden McGeady had played against Manchester United, there would have been 4 Irish players in the same Champions League game for the first time in some time
There were five in the previous game against Manchester United, but only Aiden McGeady (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=38265), John O'Shea (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=18121) and Cillian Sheridan (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=46153) played, Darron Gibson (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=42488) and Darren O'Dea (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=41533) were unused substitutes.

Ross McCormack is Scottish, and he's already picked up a cap for his country: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_McCormack#International_career

He made his debut for the senior side on 30 May 2008 when he came on as a substitute during a 3-1 defeat against Czech Republic.

Ward and Foley again impressing on either side of the defence to keep a clean sheet against 4th placed Burnley.

At 23 & 24 we could have seen the emergence of our full backs of the future in what has been a great year for Ireland so far from the Championship. Both link well with the wingers ahead of them, so could offer a formidable partnership on both wings with Mcgeady & Duff.

Irish Abroad for Saturday, 8th November 2008: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/dateDetails.xquery
Despite scoring his first two Premiership goals for Liverpool, Robbie Keane (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=11957) was substituted again, he has not completed a game for the Reds in almost two months
Andy Reid (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/playerDetails.xquery?playerID=23629) started his first Premiership game for Sunderland (http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/teamDetails.xquery?teamID=2493) in almost a month. Unfortunately he still has yet to start a home win for the Black Cats, despite winning both away games where he started

Randolph "Unlikely" to Play for Hereford Again (http://www.charlton.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=131628)

"Two hours before kick-off on Saturday, Darren informed me that he had heard we were interested in another goalkeeper therefore he refused to take part in the match.

"Had he been a contracted player with us his contract would have been terminated for a serious breach of its terms. However, being on a standard loan the maximum disciplinary action we can take is to fine him two weeks' wages.
Darren Randolph hasn't exactly endeared himself to Hereford boss Graham Turner. Should of played and put in a good performance. Seems like a bad attitude.

According to a report in Ipswich:

Ipswich Town, Hamilton Academical and St Johnstone have all made contract offers to former Drogheda central defender Graham Gartland, according to reports in the Irish Republic. Last week, TWTD revealed that the Irish B international had been training with the Blues.

The 25-year-old, who was first linked with Town in December 2007, has been granted early release from his Drogheda contract due to the club's major financial problems. Last year's Eircom Premier League champions recently went into examinership (Irish version of administration) having been unable to pay its players.

After TWTD revealed that Gartland had been training at Playford Road, boss Jim Magilton confirmed he had been at the club a fortnight ago, but said the move had not progressed any further than that at that point.

In addition to the interest from Town, Hamilton and St Johnstone, Swedish side Elfsborg are also said to be keen to take Gartland on trial, while fellow Swedes Helsingborg were previously linked.

Gartland played his youth football with Home Farm, where Owen Garvan's father is a coach, before spells as a youth player with Barnsley and Dundee United. He returned to Ireland to play with St Patrick's Athletic and Longford Town, joining Drogheda in 2004.

Last year, the Dubliner caught the eye of several English clubs when he played alongside Town’s Alex Bruce for the Irish B side in a friendly against Scotland.

In addition to his B cap, Gartland has represented the Republic at U14, U16, U18 and U20 levels, and was called into the senior squad for the tour of the US in the summer of 2007 but was forced to drop out due to injury.

Despite the 6ft 1in tall defender's contract coming to an early end, Town would be unable to sign him officially until the transfer window opens in January.

Certainly highly rated
Greg Abbot said

I went to watch him again last night, he played an hour for Sunderland reserves and they were terrific. They brought him off after an hour so that he could come into contention for the game tomorrow. He was absolutely excellent, they won 2-0 and he set up both goals from the left-back position. So we are hoping that he can come in and make a big impact

Made his debut today and some people reckon he was Man of the Match.

Jay O'Shea to derby

Republic of Ireland under-21 and under-23 forward Jay O’Shea is expected to seal a move to Coca-Cola Championship side Derby County in the near future.
Looks a very raw talent from what I've seen of him, probably hasn't had a lot of top class coaching in his career but stood out when playing for the U-21's.

Please don't start a Jay O'Shea thread for a while, it'll only antagonise the LOI aficianados.

You might recognise the name. Son of Chris, Cian was born in Enfield in 1989 when Daddy was actually playing for Spurs and is also a full-back. He's a reserve regular but is yet to make the breakthrough to the first team - not surprising at a club that has only really produced Jamie O'Hara from their Academy since Ledley King.

Midfielder Owen Garvan has been named in the Championship Team of the Week for the third time in four weeks, despite Ipswich losing 1-0 at Doncaster on Saturday.

Last week teammate Alan Quinn was named in the Team of the Week after impressing against Blackpool, while Garvan was named in the previous two teams, the first alongside Kevin Lisbie.

I watched a lot of the Doncaster game and, while he's clearly Ipswich's best player, the team was poor and I'm surprised he made the team of the week. Still though, it seems he's one of the best central midfielders in that division which isn't bad for a 20 year old.

Good day for our aspiring young talent in the Championship (not that they are likely to be scouted):

Championship - Stephen Quinn, Sean Scannell, Jonathan Walters & St Ledger all scored with Foley and Ward performing well and keeping another clean sheet for our boys as reviewed below (Surely they have to be given a chance as our future full-backs some time soon). Good chance that Stapleton and the lads will have a few more premier league players to scout next year as all the teams at the top have young Irish players playing for them.

http://www.molineuxmix.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?t=33521

Championship One - Michael Collins scored for Huddersfield (scored in his last 3) and Jimmy Ryan got one from Accrington (4th of the Season) both from Midfield.

Of the Elder statesmen and not-interested Morrison, Kavanagh and Ireland also scored.
