In true Lost fashion they had a potential corker of a story but when they got renewed they realised "shoite, we have to stretch this out for next season and beyond". Season two is just mental and ruins it in imo.

I've given the first few episodes a watch just to see and I see what you're saying. I've watched up to episode four, which does end on an interesting note, but I've found the plot just getting a tad silly. I feel guilty for going against your advice now! :p

Episode three was the worst of the entire series so far; a full episode of filler obviously designed to increase tension and suspense, but it just had me laughing the more ridiculous it got. I couldn't take it seriously at all. It was especially annoying after the episode two bombshell I'd naturally expected to be advanced in the following episode, but there was no mention of it at all until the final three minutes when Saul, just off the plane, showed up at Carrie's door.

Watched a few more episodes of the second season of 'Homeland' after sticking with it and thought it improved after its initial spiral into madness. Decided to let my incredulity slide and particularly enjoyed episode ten for its chock-a-block action and drama, especially those final scenes involving Brody and Walden. Brody's revelation felt somewhat satisfying. The moral debate between Carrie and Nazir felt a bit clichéd, mind, if not verging on the comical, despite its philosophical pretences. Just have the season finalé to go now, which I'll probably watch this afternoon at some point.

Edit to add: The season finalé; absolutely ludicrous. :bulgy:

I'm a bit behind the times with this one, but really enjoying Justified. Half way through Season 3, after a couple of weeks, and I believe that season 4 is just finishing up in the US. It's not mind blowing stories or plots, but very very entertaining.

Probably go Sons of Anarchy next, but we tend to wind down the "Box set" watching over the summer.

I've been watching The Americans, a real walk on the wild side re a drama series. It's about active Soviet spies living in the US, apple pie, married, kids, baseball etc. It's a fascinating story about cold war/politics/spying in the US, surprisingly objective considering the usual mindless propaganda guff presented to an American audience.

I like the sound of that. I'm going to give it a go. A worthy successor to the first season of 'Homeland' perhaps?

I didn't watch Homeland at all, can't compare.
If Americans strikes your curiosity, just watch the pilot and you'll get the idea if it's for you.
Real commie spies spend more time in the bed than under the bed :)

The extent of Soviet espionage during the cold war is one fascinating story. There's another story made into film, L'affaire Farewell, set in Moscow about a French diplomat used as an in-between by a disillusioned KGB analyst to get info to the West. It just so happened that there was list of the KGB Line X agent network and a hundred or so of their snitches in high places.

Watched all The Wire there for the first time ,Can see what all the hype is about it. Thoroughly enjoyable and has great rewatch value. Such depth to it too.

Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones are also very good of those that are currently running.

Watched the finale of Spartacus: War of the Damned last night. Like a Millwall cup run it was always going to end in a bloodbath.

Overall I thought it was a really enjoyable series once you accepted it's built in limitations. They rushed it to the finish line as well but there's probably only so many ways you can depict a blokes skull being split in half.

I heard from some who followed Spartacus, they were well 'pleased' by the last episode.

Treme 3 was worth just for the music. I have to check out that soundtrack.
But most of the plots, the Chief, the Cook, the Cop and all their lovers, were already well played out in the earlier series.

I'm at a loose end now, is Broadchurch any good?

Watched the pilot and am intrigued. Will continue with it. Obviously, the concept is derived in part from the story of the real-life "Americans"; a Russian spy-ring caught operating from within suburban America in 2010: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jun/29/russian-spies-suburban-america

The pertinent case of Richard (Vladimir) and Cynthia Murphy (Lidiya Guryev), a real-life "couple" who, it would appear, actually had two uninformed children and raised them as a family as part of their guise, is especially disquieting.

Who can tell what the crafty Russians have planned for the offspring of the Soviet sleeper spies or who can really tell the extent of top secret KGB sleeper networks that can possibly be activated by a mere tweet? as exposed in this 1970's 'prophetic' 'cult classic' Telefon.

not strictly speaking a TV series, but Strip Search is well worth watching online: http://penny-arcade.com/strip-search/
It's from the makers of the Penny Arcade web strip (and PAX expo, Child's Play charity, etc) trying to find the next big web artist
Basically, it's reality TV for people who hate reality TV shows (like me)

Watched "Moone Boy" last week when I got back and was sleepless in Strogino. Laughed a lot, liked the main character and just thought it was a lovely little comedy.

Enjoyed the first series of Veep and caught 1 episode of The Americans when I was home, but it's a bit too stereotyped, plus they had a backdrop of the CS Cathedral in Moscow, which, at the time the series is set, was a public swimming pool. Best movie about sleeper agents starred one River Phoenix, Little Nikita.

Missus and I started watching Community at the weekend. Her pick. Almost done the first season. Very enjoyable, easy to watch comedy fare. Chevy Chase, Ken Jeong and Jim Rash are immense.

If you like that, give Parks and Recreation a look. The first series has only six episodes, and to be honest you can skip them and miss nothing. From the second series on, it's comedy gold.

season 2 is the high point, lot of season 3 is just treading water, although still miles ahead of most things on TV at the moment
Season 4 is about to start in a few weeks, with the show's creator and show runner, Dan Harmon, removed so a lot of the fans are worried about the quality dropping
Really good Q&A with him on Reddit here: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/yne9x/i_am_dan_harmon_creator_of_community_writer_of/?sort=old

Just finished Season 2 here. I thought Chase was the weak link in the first season actually. He's much more fun in Season 2 because he gets to play the villain in a number of episodes.

Pudi and Glover are the finds of the show for me.

and, as the show goes on, anything the Dean says and does is gold

So finally, as anyone who regularly jaunts into the Celeb Totty thread may have realised, I have started Community. It's brilliant.

That Alison Brie is in it makes it better.

That she exists makes the world a glorious place.

I watched the first 10 episodes and they are very good. But after the talk of the Paintball episode back in the yonder of this thread I just had to skip to it. Classic TV. I haven't laughed at something like that in a long time.

Beware season 3.

Watched season 5 & 6 of skins over the last couple of weeks. A bit patchy at times but better than the previous generation overall I thought. Season 7 is going to be the last and it goes back to characters from the first two generations, Effy, Cook and Cassie and how their lives have moved on. It's due to start in July and should be worth catching.

Also up to date on Breaking Bad. What a great cliffhanger to leave it on, the last few episodes should be unmissable stuff.

Finished watching 'Band of Brothers' the other evening after a mid-series interruption caused by degree-work overload. It's a truly excellent series. Damian Lewis is fantastic in it. Might check out 'The Pacific', the follow-up, as well.

Also completed the first season of 'The Americans' a while back and definitely enjoyed it. I think I saw on the RTÉ website that they're showing it at the minute.

First season is tough but it comes inot it's own eventually.

The Gay Penguins episde is class.

Rallied through Orange is the New Black on Netflix over the weekend.
Absolutely brilliant show with some class characters. The addition of Taylor Schilling is an obvious bonus.

So hard to predict Breaking Bad. Just have to hope they can maintain the brilliance and provide a satisfactory conclusion. Have a feeling Walt will die alone, having been responsible, either directly or indirectly, for the death of his family, the very thing he set out to protect in the first place.

Oh and Hank to have an Elvis moment on the jax!

Watched The Newsroom over christmas. Enjoyed it, and would recommend it. I'm generally a fan of Sorkin though.

Probably way behind the curve, but half way through season 2 of Hell on Wheels, after just finishing season 1. Pretty good fair too.

Really struggling with season 3 of Breaking Bad tbh. I assume it's worth persisting with, but it is a bit of struggle half way through S3.

Started looking at Breaking Bad due to some good recommendations from a few friends. Have to say the first two series were excellent, with great acting and really great TV, but just finished series 3 and like Macy am scratching my head at how silly it got. The Fly episode was a non story and there are way too many stupid coincidences. But many here told Macy to stick with it so i will soldier on - unlike Lost, The Walking Dead and Homeland where I gave up after a while. Better be right, as it takes a good while to go through a series!:D

Really ? I thought the show came into it's own at the end of season 3. Superb last couple of episodes. Viewed over the whole 5 series it's been steadily building with a growing inevitability to the point we're at now, with two episodes left(for me - some might already have seen last nights). It's not the Wire, but it's damn good, and light years ahead of most of what's on the Box.

I've started watching House of Cards on Netflix, up to episode 6. It's good, almost the anti West Wing. (I did like the West Wing, don't get me wrong.)
