Nearly finished season 1 of breaking bad. Completely mad, but really enjoying it so far.
Keep on seeing Sons of Anarchy advertised on 5USA, and it looks pretty good on the trailers. I think it was mentioned before on the thread - is it worth acquiring?

Enjoying Breaking Bad myself. About half way through the second series and it's still very good.

Curb Your Enthusiasm. The plots for each episode are so brilliantly crafted.
Finished Deadwood. Really, really good. Such a shame that they didn't do another season or the 2 movies.

I looked that one up out of curiosity having read your post yesterday, watched the pilot and second episode last night and I'll be damned if it ain't some of the finest comedy I've watched in a while. The Spanish teacher's rant cracked me up. Cheers for that.

this is the second time this week that I've seen or given this recommendation. a mate said the same thing. Any time I have watched it I didn't enjoy it.
He also mentioned it whilst we were fawning over Arrested Development... so he may not be talking crap if I am to take both opinions together.

give it a few episodes, the first series doesn't really get going until the annoying english professor is removed from the storylines
the two paint ball episodes are some of the funniest tv I've seen in the last few years

Different. Imagine an entire episode devoted to a paintball competition which has gotten ridiculously out of hand, packed with references to everything from Die Hard to Predator.

I shall endeavour to watch it now.
Just started rewatching The Thick of It.
Just started rewatching The Thick of It.
Malcolm Tucker is my hero, even if his best quote was an outtake. The next series must be out soon (was supposed to be March 2012), but I haven't seen it advertised yet.
Finished Season 1 of Breaking Bad. Just brilliant. We'll be starting Season 2 asap. I've to make a pick for the nights the missus is out - probably learning towards a rewatch of something. I miss The Wire, so will probably go for that!

Breaking Bad is watchable (a high enough rating).
Usually one series of that type of stuff would be enough for me or the storyline just doesn't stretch to another series, but BB manages to keep you coming back and be satisfied with the fare. During the 4th series I started to question my commitment but the series ending episodes made it worthwhile.
For the first time I watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, a BBC (8 x 50min) oldie, a free from digital effects atmospheric thriller. I had watched the recent film but got lost after 2 minutes and didn't enjoy it at all, however the tv production I have to say scores high on all fronts

Once you're done with Community, start with Parks and Recreation.
The first, short, series is passable, everything after it is quality

I saw the first episode of Parks and Rec. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
It does go to show just how far ahead of the curve AD was and yet was cancelled. It spawned most of what we watch now.

Don't you ever, ever, ever call me a bully. I'm so much worse than that.
Also not technically Tucker but Jamie...
You're about as secure as a hymen in a South London comprehensive.
I have this one on a tea towel.... "If some c**t can f**k something up, that c**t will pick the worst possible time to f**king f**k it up cause that c**t's a c**t."
Didn't go with The Wire rewatch in the end, went with The Black Donnellys. Looks ok two in, but no more than that really.

The Black Donnellys was actually ok. Some ropey moments and acting but generally enjoyable even though they caned it half way through and as a result rushed the ending. Was very disappointed it didn't get a second season.
HBO cancelled Luck by the way due to the death of a third horse while filming. Yikes...

A giant meh!
I haven't finished it yet. Wouldn't recommend it to someone that hasn't started watching, but its only thirteen episodes - though by all accounts it doesn't get much better.
I stuck with that aliens amongst us thing last year, can't remember the name. It was terrible the whole way through, but the ending was brilliant I actually wanted to see that second series. Don't think I'll get that that with alcatraz though.
Finished The Black Donnellys. I thought it was alright - it could've developed nicely if it had been let. As someone said earlier - the end was, and definitely felt, rushed. A bit of missed opportunity.

Re-watched Yes, Minister (watched all the series about 3-4 years ago). Really gives a massive insight into politics and how government works. The characters, even the occasional ones, are excellent.

It's a great programme, but the extent that it reflects how government works is overplayed imo. It's still used as an excuse for politicians to hide behind to this day, and hence why politicians love it so much as it gives them cover. It most certainly it isn't my experience of how civil servants and politicians interact in an Irish context where it's very much the responsibily minister says jump, and the senior civil servants (aka permenant Government  ) says how high. Yet even here we have lazy references to the "Sir Humphries".
Season 2 of the US Killing started last night on Channel 4. Wasn't great to be honest, and wasn't really holding my attention, but I'll be giving it a chance. Won't be bothering acquiring it though - it can live or die on my viewing schedule based on TV (which I guess is a drop down the rankings).

watched it for the first time last Sunday and it was enjoyable enough fare. Good cast, interesting characters. Seemed a little forced at times.
By the way, Anna Chlumsky never truly lived up to the totty potential i idenitified in My Girl though... disappointing shout frm my perspective.

Quite enjoying season 2 of The Walking Dead, to be honest. Much better than I thought it'd be, even if there's one or two characters I wish would get zombified and one or two plot lines being very obvious.
I've Veep ready to go, but I'm enjoying the reruns of the Thick of It too much on BBCHD at the moment to bother. Anyone watching The Newsroom? I've what's been on ready to go, but seems to be getting panned by the critics but getting alright (for HBO) ratings?

I'd loved the west wing, never seen sports night or studio 60. I may not be the best judge, but liking what I've seen of newsroom so far.
Think the critics are panning it, but getting numbers so audience seem to like it.
Its definitely more than a little aspirational, and I don't think the yanks take to what could be seen as political commentary. (more so social commentary re the media involvement)
Also they seem to make a lot of sorkin's lack of subtlety. Its true he seems to wear his heart on his sleeve, but with lots of little things - like the long walky/talky in the first episode - any subtlety seems to be lost.
Whether or not the characters/stories can be kept up for what now seems like two season is another thing.
I'll give it ago once a a few more are available. I really liked Studio 60, a real shame it wasn't renewed/ was wrapped up quickly imo.
What the hell has happened to Sky on Mondays lately?
Veep, Walking And Talking (now finished though) on Sky Atlantic, really good. Even the Russell Brand thing is worth a look.
Midmorning Matters with Alan Partridge though is just brilliant. Maybe it's because it's new that I'm thinking now it could be the best thing he's done. Probably. But it is that good. "Which muppet?"

Just after finishing the second season of The Borgias. Crime saga based on the real life reign of controversial Pope Alexander VI and his family. Surprisingly good show, can't wait for season three! didn't realise until recently it was created by Neil Jordan.

Recommend try before you buy, or just buy away if its cheap.
Its what usa (that what they're called?) seem to do best - unconventionly buddys solve crime - enjoyable enough. Also got something for everyone - I'm reliable informed that Matt Bomer is 'a bit of alright', and tiffany amber thiessen pops up from time to time
Watched the last episode of season two of "The Killing"(American version) last night, bit of a silly ending. Taking both seasons into account it was ok verging on good would of thought more of it if I hadn't watched the Danish Version first. The American version pales in comparison

Got around to watching Skins recently, have completed the first four series and it's well worth a watch. I think the last two episoded of series two are among the best of any series I've watched, really heartbreaking at times. The cast of three and four probably wasn't as strong overall and the tone was very light for series three, gets darker as it progresses but really wasn't a big fan of the conclusion to series four.

I, sort of, recommended it last year, never actually finished watching it though. Seemed to be getting interesting at the time too.
