Scored a blinder for reading last night. I like to think I'm up to date on a lot of the Irish lads in englands top 2 tiers but i have to admit i had never heard of this lad being irish until last night!!!

TV 3 said hes from waterford, the metro this morning says laois. Saw an interview with him on sky last night and he has THE strangest accent. i thought there was some irish in there but also a lot of english so i just dismissed him.

Dont even know where he plays for reading or where his natural position is/age etc. i have a feeling he might be ex eircom league and if thats the case please, eircom heads, dont have a go cos i know zip about our own league.

Apologies if dicussed already but any info would be good.

He's Noel Hunts brother isn't he?

He's a solid player and fairly quick.
The sort of player i'd love to see on the left wing for City.
Don't reckon he'd be upto international standard at all though.
think he's 27/28.

he is 25, noels brother and from waterford. signed for reading from brentford and previously played for palace. he has also appeared at ireland u-21 level. he plays on the left wing but can also opperate as a center forward.

best of luck to him. if/when reading go up next year it will hopefully give another couple of irish lads a crack at the big time in england.

He's 24.

He used to play for Brentford. He's a useful midfielder who has in the past had a knack for banging in a few goals. Fairly skillful but not international standard IMO. He's not even a regular for Reading. Convey keeps him out of the team.

That was an easy one :) I've posted on him twice this morning already - that's probably why you didn't know him!

Also of Irish interest last night: Marcos Painter & Alex Bruce for BCFC, Stack & Shane Long obviously but of particular note was Conor Sinnott on the bench for Reading. According to a thread on this forum he's on an extended trial from Bray. Like Long, he'd done little of note at club level to get noticed as he's only played a small number of senior games. Staunton should have appointed Coppell as advisor - he seems to know more about irish footballers than anyone.

Clinton Morrisson seems to be going backwards at a rate of knots at Palace. Not even in last night's squad.

Yeah..He is 24 and going by last nights performance I think he has a chance if he can keep his place at Reading. One thing for sure he does not give up too easily. He chased that ball up and down the pitch all evening and appears to have bags of energy. He also scored a lovely goal.He was the best Reading player out there last night

good stuff. at 24 its probably not too late, but then if he is a fringe player then maybe he is punching above his weight. still cant believe i didnt know about him. watched a bit of that match last night and long barely got a kick.
kitson missed 2 sitters as well, the little role model.

Marcos Painter is a good strong defender and is one for the future.Shane Long did nothing to suggest that he is but then again he is young and a little light.Yes i agree with you ST88 , Morrisson is going down hill rapidly and has being for a while now. He has never really been the same since he hurt that shoulder.

Eamon Dolan, brother of Pat, is a coach at the Youth Academy in Reading.
Make of that what you will.

See who he muscled out of the way for the goal - none other than the recently declared Irishman, Alex Bruce. To be fair to the latter he had a reasonable game but he still treats the ball at his feet like a hot cake to be got rid of anywhere asap.

Fair question. I guess it comes down to a love of all international football only. I would only watch the english premiership if there was irish interest in the match.

The only time I ever half supported an english team was when villa had 5 or so irish lads in their great team of the early 90s. I like to see english clubs with irish players doing well-only reason i was hoping for a Reading win last night.

I think the main reason I have no interest or knowledge in/of the EL is because rarely does an EL player ever get a look in with the national team. I think there would be others who only write on this board with the same view maybe? perhaps a topic for discussion on its own:D

Watched Hunt for Reading last night & whereas he took his goal very well thought he overall play was fairly poor. Lost the ball too easily in possession & just not physical enough. On this evidence of one game no chance at international football & not good enough for Reading bench next season.

he has tended to pick up too many injuries though. even when he was with rovers he was fairly injury prone. when he went to the pars he had a host of problem including a broken bone in his lower leg (i think) which took a long time to heal. noel is a great guy and deserves his chance, he just needs to stay fit to make a proper go of it.

If he keeps playing like that on a regular basis he deserves to be called up.

I'll admit i was unconvinced about Hunt when saw him in the Championship last year. He also did well in the B International & should definitely be in the squad ahead of Alan O'Brien who might get a starting place if picked for U21 squad.

You cant ignore the progress he's making at the moment. Getting better and better. Outstanding on Saturday and Coppell is getting everything out of him. Different kettle of fish with Duffer. Terrible manager, Shocking defence, the whole squad(bar Their Keeper) consistently underperforming... Newcastle are cursed. He's not gonna get back to half decent form there, He needs to get out. It was such a bad move, unfortunately.

Curses or jinxed. Can anyone think of a decent player who improved after joining Newcastle?

In the championship with Reading and before that at an OK level with Brentford. But wouldn't expect the "greatest fans in the world" to know anything about him

Who cares where he was before hand? He is a good player and a hard grafter. Pity we have not a few more like him and we would probably go some where. He should be in the squad full stop.Tell me one player on the current Irish team who is playing better than he is at present besides the obvious of course.

Ronan O'Gara was interviewed yesterday and suggested that one of the reasons the top Irish rugby players are playing well is the increased pressure from other players looking for their place.

It would be no bad thing to drop Duff for a few games to show him (and the others) that no-ones place is guaranteed. It would be even better if we had a deep enough squad that for every player we had a replacement close to their level. That's the only way to keep players on their toes.

Simple question, can Hunt do a job in our next two games?
Simple answer, yes!
Away to San Minnow and at home to Wales, I could do a job on them myself.

Perhaps if we tell de gaffer that he plays in England and has an Irish granny, he'll call him up. Well it's true, isn't it!

Who cares where he was before hand?

Exactly, don't matter if he played in the Phoenix park previous. Also don't matter that he older as the question is whether he is good enough now or not. Ireland don't have luxury of riches that can discount players over 25.

Does he have an Irish granny anywhere so Stan might take an interest?

Born in Laois, From Waterford. Should be no need. Saw the interview too, came across well. Very honest, down to earth, hard worker, likes to keep the head down. Deserves a shot at the big time with Ireland.

Alot of people are saying to include him in the Irish team, I for one am not convinced...Granted he plays with his heart on his sleeve, and gives 100% and has become a fixture in a Reading side that has impressed this season!!

But i think he is technically inept and hasnt the talent to succeed at international level

From the limited amount of times I've seen him (never in the flesh though), I didn't see anything that would make him an international player.

Certainly I'd have him in the squad ahead of the likes of Alan "yeah but he's fast" O'Brien but I don't think he'd improve the squad or bring anything different at all.

Who are the "lot of people"? I have only seen him on TV and his performances have been average. I haven't read or heard of any call to include him in the international side.
