You just knew when the likes of Solbakken, Berg etc... were appointed to their respective clubs that it wasn't gonna work!
Spot on ! Its funny to see clubs pay guys, quite probably more than most of us on here will make in a year to source and appoint managers who are at a glance obviously wrong, and have no business there. And I wonder where Sean O'Driscoll will have to go do rebuild after having done a very good job at Forest I thought.

Why was Solbakken obviously wrong?

Why was Solbakken obviously wrong?
I remember seeing an interview with him just after he was appointed and thinking 'oh dear'. And here Wolves are. If they would only listen to me CD, If only ......

Fair enough, but his CV is impressive and I'd say suited to the task of a club like Wolves who should be dominating that division.
Another of Traps exiles........
Judging by reports he has been playing very well for Wolves in recent games. Hopefully he is overcoming injury and form issues of last couple of years. Many of us would have thought he wouldve been the immediate replacement for Duff on the wing when he retired. Turns 32 this year and probably still has a couple of years to offer Ireland........albeit he always performed better in a sub role.

I think he's a bit of a love / hate player. His set piece delivery and work rate is excellent, but technically he's very limited. I'm much happier to see players like McClean and Brady being given a chance on the wings in the absence of Duff — they're both as good as Hunt, if not better, and have time on their side.

hardly, he's been injured for most of the season, that's only his third start

And 'Hunty' isn't too put out with getting a bums rush text from Trap. He has a maturity beyond what you might reasonably expect. :)
It's good to see him back playing.

Mick wants Hunt to join him at Ipswich which is not surprising.

He far far too good for league 1. Only 31 too.

Mick also wants Sylvain Ebanks-Blake. I wouldn't be surprised if Ipswich hoovered up 4 or 5 of that Wolves squad. There is a good core of players there who are well capable of challenging for promotion in the Championship. If Foley didn't have such a dodgy injury history, I'd say he was being considered too. I wouldn't be surprised if Mick looked at Doherty too.

Ipswich worth a tenner for a playoff spot next season CD ?

I wouldn't be against them winning automatic promotion. Mick is a pro at getting teams out of that league and he's got a bit of money behind him now.

Apparently Hunt was on £30k a week at Wolves. Mad money for a player who warmed the bench all season or sat on the treatment table.
Charlie Darwin
23/05/2013, 12:23 PM
Well he'd have been insured for the time he was on the treatment table. He was only on the bench under Solbakken and that was mainly an attempt to get rid of him and off the wage bill. He was injured more or less from October to March, then he finished the season playing regularly.

I'd love to see him go to Germany and try a different style of football, even if it might not suit him, but he seems to nix the idea when he mentions his daughter, which is fair enough. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in Stoke, Leicester or Nottingham in that case, similar to how Keith Andrews chose Bolton when he probably could have had another contract at West Brom.

Talks that Cardiff are in for Noel as well. Could the lure of getting another chance at playing with his brother be keeping him thinking?

I'm surprised he's having such a hard time finding a club, but I'd say his injury record is counting against him for a lot of clubs.
Apparently he turned down Valenciennes in France because he didn't want to leave England: http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/valenciennes/transfer-talk/news/hunt-turns-down-french-club_96736.html

Looks like he'll move to Derby. A very good move if it happens, both for him and the club I would think. The last sentence doesn't make much sense though as Johnny Russell is very much a striker I would have thought.
Derby County now front runners to sign Stephen Hunt (http://www.ftbpro.com/posts/tom.wright/381358/derby-county-now-front-runners-to-sign-stephen-hunt)
O'Brien, Keogh, Hendrick and Sammon already there also... quite likely there will be 5 Irish in their starting line-up when O'Brien & Hendrick get fit... both have a couple of months to go though I think.

Derby would be good. So considering he moves and gets back playing, at 32, what do ye think of him converting into a left back a la Kilbane at this stage? Really not blessed in that area of the field as Wilson seems destined to move in centre half/midfield IMO

Hunt now looks set to train with Ipswich (http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich-town/stephen_hunt_set_to_train_with_ipswich_town_but_he _s_out_of_the_blues_budget_1_2809269) but apparently they can't afford him.
I came across this (http://www.joe.ie/football/football-news/stephen-hunt-lifts-the-lid-on-his-republic-of-ireland-team-mates/) as well. It's from ages ago so apologies if ye've seen it already or if it was posted here.
Stephen Hunt appeared on Sky’s Soccer AM this morning and revealed all about his Irish team-mates.
The wild haired wing wizard took time out from prepping for last night’s 4-0 annihilation of Estonia to tell them the secrets ofTrap’s squad, and we now know a little too much about some of our heroes.
Best trainer: Paul McShane according to Hunt, calling him “intense” but he does also say he might just stand out because of his hair.
Worst trainer: Keiren Westwood gets this honour from Hunt, saying he just moans all day. As would we if we had to run around, or stand around, in Malahide in November.
Best mate: The Waterford man picks out roommate Andy Keogh.
Joker: McShane gets this one too, and he is apparently quite a mover on the dance floor.
Most skillful: Aiden McGeady gets the nod here. It was never going to be Darren O’Dea now was it.
Most intelligent: Hunt went for his Wolves team-mate Kevin Doyle as he is “always reading the business papers and checking the FTSE”. Shay Given gets some love for his common sense but it seems Kevin Doyle is the brains of the Irish outfit.
Most vain: Interesting stuff here as Hunt refers to the “LV Group”, a bunch of players who went to Las Vegas last year and came back with some bad tattoos. Hunt names just two though, Keogh and Liam Lawrence.
Future manager: John O’Shea is the man most likely to patrol the sidelines when he retires it seems, while Hunt volunteered himself to be his assistant. We can see O’Shea barking out orders. A future Manchester United manager maybe?
Worst dress sense: Hunt picks out Shay Given for a baseball hat he wears which the Donegal man thinks makes him invisible.
Longest in the shower: Stephen Hunt tells us that Liam Lawrence “loves himself” and therefore is the longest in the shower. Make of that what you will.
