Dont believe the Hype, Hunt is a good solid player ... Doyle is pure class.
Come on you cant really believe this. Doyle is pure quality and wouldnt look out of place with any team in the Premiership. Hunt on the other hand is a slightyl better version of Kilbane. They both play with the same heart and determination, Hunt has a bit more skill about him though

Doyle is a very skillful player. Did you ever see his goal last year I think against QPR when he performed the overhead kick? Brilliant.

If Doyle was English he'd be worth 20 million now & everyone would be after him. Just look at Darren Bent FFS.

I think he could immediately improve Man United's forward line.

Kevin Doyles new contract was reportedly worth Ģ27,500stg a week. Is that what Hunt is after i wonder?

No but he did score against us when he was here a few times. His last 2 goals for his country were top class. Impressed with Long as well. Hope they all earn millions.

He's dead right and of course he deserves to be paid the same as his team mates when he's a first team regular. Everyone gets a raise when they improve their performance - doesn't matter what industry.

Not in the Civil service.

only two things i can fault on this, the use of if and were should be used.
secondly doyle isnt as fact as bent, and may not be as strong running as bent either.

neil, thats cos the performance doesnt improve.

No one associated the Civil Service with industry. Not any sense of the word.

Spot on...you could say the same for the likes of Given, Dunne and Finnan...

I said the exact same thing a few months ago but Ashley Young was the example (9 million) I used instead of Bent and I was shot down by everyone on these boards bar Stutts who agreed. Funny Stutts how they agree 100% with something you say that makes perfect sense but disagree 100% with me for the same things. Must be my charming personality. My wisdom is wasted on these boards.

I thought he did but possibly not. A lot of heads were disagreeing stating Duff went for 17 million and it was nohting to do with nationality. I started the thread btw and it was about the derisory bid Aston Villa were suposedly going to put in for Doyle (5 mill) when the previous week they paid 9 mill for an average (at best) English U21 player (Ashley Young).

David Nugent - 7 million? Another joke. Has anyone watched him in the U21 Euros? Tripe - Keogh looks a better player and he was bought for 500K.

It was nothing to do with nationality, Duff's release clause from Blackburn was 17 million. Chelsea offered it, so he had to talk to them and eventually went.

I meant the inflated prices of English players as I seen them were nothing to do with nationality according to many of the posters. The fact that Duff went for 17 million and he was Irish was the example that was used to back up this claim.

It wouldn't matter what nationality he was, if his release clause was 17 million, and a club offered it then he was obliged to speak to them.

also there was no other club in the world who would have paid 17M for damien duff other than rainieris chelsea , regardless of the fact that he did very well when he went there.

The Mirror say Hunt's new deal is worth Ģ35k a week. I didn't think any player at Reading would earn that much.

Some other links confirming (or at least agreeing) on the 15,000 figure:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/reading/6285340.stm

Hunt, 25, had two years left on his deal but has been rewarded with improved terms, worth about Ģ15,000 a week, after excelling last season.http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premiership/article2050231.ece

Hunt, who arrived on a free transfer from Brentford in 2005, is believed to have accepted a deal worth Ģ15,000 a week, ending speculation linking him to moves to West Ham United, Bolton Wanderers and Everton.

He never stops running for the team. Can score goals. He is a horrible player to play against. And he can tackle. Thats it. Now get him in the side Stan. And don't waste him out on the left.

dr_peepee
10/09/2007, 4:23 PM
Ye don't even have to play him.... Just stick him on the opposition post like a GAA umpire where he'll whisper sweet nothingsto Peter..

Im still so angry that he didnt at least come on against the Slovaks. He is the kind of player that really really ****ed off the opposition and would be excellent to use in the last 10 minutes. I also think it would be great to have him against Cech and for every set piece have him standing right infront of Cech eyeballing him. Im sure that would get to cech

He was been Readings best player this year. Against United and Chelsea he was moving from left to right and back again throughout the games. I feel that if Stan plays him on the left he will be told to stay out there. Kilbane had an OK game on Saturday and I would leave him out on the left. Have Hunt play on the right instead of McGeady but give him license to roam around. Or just go with Kilbane at left back and let Hunt play wide left but as he plays for Reading. Free to change wings and run around like a madman in midfield and get in their faces.

I donīt watch the epl games, Hunt was totally outshone by McGeady in the friendly.
If the pitch is better nick I donīt mind which one of them starts as long as one subs the other.

Stan would be unwilling to start Hunt as he was very poor against Denmark. That's why probably why Kilbane started ahead of him on Saturday. He has to start though- if Stan had seen him play in the Premiership this season he wouldn't have left him on the bench.

Brilliant! He can be our 12th man so to speak! Come to think of it, with the amount of Irish fans that will be at the game, we'll have 13 players!

Why not play him and play kilbane left full. He has been a consistent performer for Reading for 2 seasons now. And i think were forgetting that mcgeady cant even get a game for Celtic.

Too good to be discarded just yet.

I haven't seen him play left full for Wigan, but I saw him play there once for Everton and he wasn't great.

Forgive my lack of knowledge lads - but is Stephen Hunt a brother of Noel Hunt? Did I read that somewhere on this forum? Did I also read that Stephen and Staunton had a falling-out over Noel not being asked to go on the US trip??
Yes, yes and Stephen did make comments in the meedya about Noel not being in the squad.

Did I also read that Stephen and Staunton had a falling-out over Noel not being asked to go on the US trip??If this is the case and it is the reason that Stephen didn't get a run on Saturday then its an absolte disgrace. How often have we seen a managers pig-headedness cost a team? Alright if a player speaks out of turn by all means then censure him within the bounds of the club/country code but don't stop him playing because he had the balls to say someting that wasn't toeing the party line. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!!Or did I dream all this- can someone confirm please? He is Noel's brother alright. Don't know about all the other stuff though.

I think Kilbane had a good game on sat but he should start at left back on wed, hunt on the wing and reid partnering carsley in CM. Think thats the team we should've started with on sat anyways.

Considering Ireland is out, stan will probably stick with McGeady on the right. Although it wouldnt surprise me if he tries something daft like douglas in middle with Reid on the right

We are not Barcelona and cannot afford the luxury of having a player to roam about. I'm all for playing him but this is one game where everyone will have to do their jobs and artistic license will have to wait until we play Andorra or San Marino sometime in the future.

"You learn from what he has done as a manager and how he dealt with our situation. He always took the spotlight and pressure off his team. It would be good to have him as a manager covering the team."

The last manager to do that for us was Charlton. Take the pressure off the team.

Just saw it this morning. One of the worst tackles I've seen in a long time. The lad, for all his ability, is nothing but a scumbag.

He could have ended that lads career yesterday.

It's up there with Binya's tackle on Scott Brown alright. Why his leg was flying so high I don't know. I doubt there was malicious intent, just him being pure mental when he gets going. I was about to type he's going to hurt someone seriously some day, but well....:o
