The best Louth GAA chairman ever ive been told many times. Far from a chancer, without him they wouldn't have any new stadium
As a politician he's not my cup of tea
He may be the best for the GAA but he has no interest in Dundalk. And as for him being a regular in Oriel, like a lot of politicians, he only seems to appear for the big games.

A patch of ground covered with a load of rubble isnt a stadium, already well behind schedule, private investors slow in meeting pledges, infighting, contractors looking for money upfront, ye know the usual. Interesting that the Golden Passport initiative has been scrapped recently, I wonder who it was that facilitated so many applications that the scheme was binned? Ollie Byrne would be impressed if he was still around!
Hi nigel-harps1954,
30,221 according to the Irish Examiner! ?

First Division average was 1,639. You have the Longford crowd wrong (was 1,541, not 1,514), and the Harps one too (was 2,552, not 2,517).
Are you sure the Shels gate wasn't 3,424 ?

Tremendous attendances all over the country last weekend. It was interesting point made about the GAA as I am a biased Roscommon fan but we had 8k at the Hyde on Sunday for Armagh which is unheard of in the league. There seems to be a real appetite across all codes for people to go to games. Its great to see and nothing beats being there.

They have already got 1/3 money needed, next batch due in march and rest in Sept. GAA also giving them the €5m left they need. The stadium will be ready Sept 2024 (good bit behind original plan but what in Ireland dosnt get delayed) look at finn park. Took them 10 years to fix a puddle in oriel ffs

Yes I seen when Roscommon played Tyrone at home was only just over 4000 at it. Armagh have serious support especially when going well
Anyway let's hope attendances keep up this weekend

Home tickets sold out again this week for Pats for the visit of shels on Friday. Last time shels played in Inchicore they had less fans there than Derry did last week but if they bring in any way a decent crowd then the attendance should be over 5,000

Was the Derry game not a sell out at 4,789 ?

Home end sell out. Derry didnt sell all their away allocation (not that they’d be expected to given the distance) so half the shed end wasn’t used

I'd say 1100-1200 at the Bowl for the Sligo match.
Might be the only match not sold out, but it's still a great crowd for the fixture

When Roddy was there in 2013 I think they’d hit 1000+ a few times. Outside of that season I don’t recall their attendances being anything other then couple hundred to several hundred. Think when we played their near the end of 2013 there was like 2k at the game. Only time I was at a game there where the stand was nearly full.
Great attendance for the womens game though. The interest in both the mens and womens league at the minute seems to be booming a wee bit.

Was there last night. Serious crowd there last night. I was in the Old Stand Block A and paid into the wrong stand( via ticketmaster!) so was in with all the Waterford fans! Didnt know theres a New Stand Block A for the away fans!
Much of an away crowd as wasnt talking to anyone from Longford there?

The playoff structure was about giving First Division clubs a lifeline! Apart from the newcomers who are happy to be there, all the rest will have playoff ambitions at the very least.

Shamrock Rovers the only side without a home game so far. Looks as though they'll have ~7,500 in Tallaght this weekend though.

How did Rovers start with two away games?
Surely there's no need for any club to start like that?

Yeah it was to do with the work being done. (https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/league-of-ireland/delayed-tallaght-return-for-shamrock-rovers-as-season-fixture-list-unveiled-42221604.html) Derry game is close to being sold out now.

Will the new stand be open for this fixture?
The article is incorrect, the delay was due to work being done in the existing main stand itself and the dressing rooms / area.
The new stand has a finish date of July /August so id imagine that maybe it might be opened for a European fixtue assuming we dont get knocked out in the first round.
Based on our first two matches who knows

Seems like there'll be more Bohs fans in Tolka than Shels this week. I'm sure the whole thing will run as smoothly as possible.

Not a great reflection on the Shels support that so many home tickets are even available for another club to buy up like this.
Glen Of Aherlow

I see Dundalk have pulled sales of ground tickets online due to security concerns , obviously a fear of a run on them by Pat's fans similar to Bohs fans for Tolka
Jack B
01/03/2023, 12:21 PM
It'd be an interesting one if they truly enforced this line of any away fans in the home end will be refused entry. Outside of people blatantly wearing colours that'd surely be a tricky one, you can hardly turn someone away because you're suspicious of their accent or whatever else the reason would be.
Glen Of Aherlow
01/03/2023, 12:37 PM
Yeah tough one to police ok but eventually if significant numbers of away fans end up in the home end at games there's sure to be trouble, all it takes is a handful of eejits .
Being a Pats fan with a culchie accent , i'm sorted
