Interestingly, the Irish Examiner claim a slight increase in capacity to 1,400 in their article about Kerry, but that's the first time I've ever seen that figure:

Also in an Irish Sun article, so with two ssources, would appear to be official:

Presumably that extra standing area down the touchline that was added later on.

Impressive given it's on TV.
What's the capacity of TC these days - 7,500+ ?

Providing this rain f*cks off in the next hour or so, should be a bumper crowd in Finn Park. Expecting over 2,000, as well as about 50-60 away tickets sold. Rain could hold off a few though, but either way, it's good to be back.

Looks a big crowd in Wexford too. Must be one of the biggest since the premier division season.

We couldn’t get an extra soul into the home end. I say we could have 5500 at a Rovers or Bohs etc with the space in the shed buts that’s the max. Ive never seen crowds like it in Richmond before the past two seasons.

And considering we'd issues with scanners again, and a lot of tickets not scanned, we didn't do too badly. I'd actually thought it was up around 3,000 but it was fantastic to see a big crowd on the night.

Belting figures from all around the grounds, long may it continue......
The attendances coming out of this thread are unrecognizable from those of us who've been on (or lurking) in this site for the past decade. So much of the discussion last year was wondering if we could hold onto the inflated numbers, looking at the season ticket numbers from this year gives us a clear indication that the pre covid base has roughly doubled.
Still need to see the Longford number but I wonder if we need to go far back to see the last time all LOI fixtures had 4 figures in the one weekend?
Truly astounded by Waterfords away support. Fair play to them.
So much for build it and they will come. It's clear now that they're coming regardless, Cork, Sligo, Pats and Derry (at least) and more need 10k modern facilities. Need to ensure there's something to show for what's happening currently.

Encouraging attendence numbers for the return of the season.
Is there anything to be said for clubs putting aside a portion of this increased revenue from improved gates for ground improvements, that could then be brought to the FAI/government funding mandarins as proof that the clubs were serious about structural improvements to the league and thus worthy of larger financial aid from said government, and not to be pi€€ed away on prize money for horse and dog racing??

Roy Keane was in attendance in Turners Cross. He looked like he was thinking that he should have travelled to Mounthawk Park!
Kerry footballers David Clifford and Paul Geaney were at Mounthawk Park. Good to see support from the Kerry GAA community! Ciarraí abú! ;)

Plenty of Waterford fans saying well over 1k from Waterford but Wexford themselves said it was about 800 before the game.

First time having a season ticket, it wasn't scanned. Do they normally scan them or do they include that every ST holder was there?

Yeah would usually all season tickets, digital tickets and home printed tickets are scanned. Would usually of had hard copy white tickets on sale at the gate that get scanned too but it was the old style pre-scanning multi coloured tickets last night. Sacanners give amount scanned and its added to the total of tickets sold at the gate to get the attendance
One of the scanners at the Navenny Street entrance had a technical fault and wouldn't scan, its reckoned at lest 500 went through the Navenny street without being scanned just tickets and cards checked. So we'll prob never get an accurate figure but must of been close to 2.5k if not well over it
I know there was a sustained sizable queue at the Aldi/Chestnut Road gate to buy tickets from the booth from about 7:40-8:10 and people wandering up to gate or ticket both in 2's or 3's every few minutes to about 8:30

AFAIK ourselves and Shels are trying to get in on the Dublin City Development Plan for ground improvements. There has been plenty of rumours regarding Richmond but very little concrete facts. I think the club are keeping their cards close after the failed Richmond Arena proposal. Its imperative that we get a plan in place in the next few season. At the moment Richmond is ready to burst and can barely accommodate the current crowds never mind provide any sort of comfortable match day experience.

I tuned into the game and I was impressed to see a very busy looking main stand, just a pity for the Longford fans that Athlone were a fairly better team on the day, they won't be pushovers this season.

There are som really solid figures from this weekend's games. Probably wishful thinking but if ever there was a snapshot of attendances of LoI taken to bolster the argument for facilities funding it is the opening day of the season - fudge the fall off or average mid-season. Outside the latter stages of GAA All-Ireland inter-county fixtures, there is quite possibly better attendance of LoI in relative terms. Certainly, club championships (All Ireland or County) would struggle to regularly break 2k with figures distorted by the large finals or occasional showpiece games. GAA league fixtures are more a miss than a hit for attendance. Remove provincial rugby and there is a huge gulf between LoI and Rugby attendances and even they have had to develop multi-jurisdiction domestic and European competitions to make ends meet. Maybe being at Louth games has influenced my thinking on this but some creative use of figures by the FAI would surely lay the basis for justifying investment?!

Don't forget a lot of prominent Ministers & TD's are big GAA heads and very parochial in their outlook! What Minister or TD outside Mick Wallace from Wexford is an out and out soccer fan!

Peter Fitzpatrick (TD and Louth chairman) would be a regular at Dundalk home games with his son/grandsons
The SF TD in the area Ruairi O Murchu would also be in Oriel quite a bit too
Loads more, for Dundalk there is Ruairí Ó Murchú (SF) who a regular in the terrace at oriel park, former Govt Minister Dermot Ahern is also a ST holder. Cork City have a prominent TD also who is a big fan, most clubs have I would think.

Yet he actively worked against a government backed, multi agency municipal stadium on the basis that it would be shared with GAA or not include GAA as they wouldnt contribute. Chancer!

Its not forgetting it though, just making the numbers work and politicians will jump on whatever cause they think will get them elected. If DJ can get an almost €10m loan written down to a 5 figure sum then time we all gave it a go based on the precedence.
Would it be a bit far fetched to say we had close to 30,000 fans attending games for the opening round of the new Airtricity League of Ireland season!

I think Fitzer actually played with Dundalk at one stage. Def played underage with them anyway

Dundalk FC cannot be moved to a new stadium imo we must do whatever we can with Oriel but it must be Oriel.
Anywhere outside town would be a disaster

The best Louth GAA chairman ever ive been told many times. Far from a chancer, without him they wouldn't have any new stadium
As a politician he's not my cup of tea
