I don't think any club can say at this stage that they won't try bring in a new forward in the summer.

If someone is available who'll improve the team, they'll go for it.

He’s had an awful run of luck with injury and illness over the last 2 seasons. Hopefully he can bounce back again. I still think he has the makings of a top half premier league forward.

Very unlucky for Adam, but to be honest it won't effect us that much, for the short term anyway.

Scott Hogan is out injured at the moment as well and has to be a doubt for the March games.

Will Keane an obvious one in line for a start I guess. But our striking options are bad enough as they are without losing players through injury as well.

It will hopefully encourage Obafemi to keep delivering knowing that there may be a squad place available over the next run of games.

Is Pukki linked with a move away? They've got an option to extend his contract for an extra season and given his record at championship level
There'll always be gossip about a stand out player in a team that's getting relegated. They won't let him go cheaply, that's true.

Pukki is 31 too though, how much could they get for him really?

He is a bit old for a Fairy-Tale price.

He may want a move himself though - at 31 he's running out of time to play for a decent Premier League team, and it seems he's probably good enough.

He'll be too important for Norwich next season, and don't think anyone is gonna spend the money needed to pry him away. How much is promotion worth and Pukki has fired Norwich to two promotions already. Would be worth losing him on a free at 33 if he gets you promoted for the third time.

14 minutes into his return to senior football and he scores. Unfortunately went out on penos to Bournemouth but great to see him back: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/62558195

We need him getting games and scoring.. Championship level strikers are pretty decent.. Mitrovic, Pukki for example.. if Parrott, Obafemi, Idah are regularly scoring at that level, they're doing ok

Out for a number of weeks after undergoing exploratory surgery on his knee. Had to have fluid drained from his knee at the start of the season and still suffering with swelling in the knee.

With the group of talented players that have come through, mostly born between 1998 and 2002, the sheer volume of players that have emerged means it's inevitable that a few will have their careers blighted or finished early due to injury. So far that hasn't happened, though Molumby obviously had a serious injury a few years ago and Smallbone has had recurring issues. But Idah is probably the one you'd be the most concerned about in that regard.

It's a real shame because he has so many positive attributes - he's tall, strong, quick, a decent finisher - he could already have been a real standout player for us by now if he had ever gotten a long clear run without injury. But you'd worry that he may never fulfill his potential because his development has been so stunted because of his injuries.

Any player that has this many injuries at this stage of his career youd have to worry about. With Idahs size he really offers us something different to what we have so I think hes a massive loss if these injuries dont clear up

Some speculation that Idah could be going on loan to Derby Co. in January, to get some game time (The 72, Transfer Tavern, Football League World, HITC, etc).

JR89
31/10/2022, 7:45 PM
Can't see Idah going anywhere. Not with his injury record and being third choice when fit behind Pukki and Sargent who both usually start.

Derby wouldn't be a bad shout if Smith were to actually let Idah leave. Whatever about the level but he'd get plenty of game time and David McGoldrick is there who could teach Idah a thing or two.

Idah, as well as Omobamidele are fit and available for tomorrow's game vs Swansea. Unfortunately for Idah in Smith's press conference he says his medical staff now call Idah a joint-compromised athlete.

That's a shame. I haven't heard the term before: is this something they can manage well, or is he on borrowed time as a pro?

Idah, a 21-year-old international striker, has endured a torrid two years through various long-term injuries and Smith acknowledged his medical staff now treat the academy product as “a joint-compromised athlete” meaning his physical load will need to be managed as he “gets a bit of fluid on the knee every now and then”

That's from the Athletic. Hopefully it's something they can manage. He's on the bench today anyway and Norwich are playing 4-3-1-2 so good chance he could see game time today anyway.

Came on at 80 minutes today, one nice run at the end. Looks fit. Terrible for Smith to be labeling a young player like that, could be detrimental for future career moves etc, keep that stuff behind closed doors. Also, periodic tapping of his joint effusions could simply be temporary and he’ll be fine in a few months.

Okoflex doing okay for a 20 year old. Nice to see him getting game time. Has he been in under 21 squad yet?

Manning not a senior international

Big Andy should hopefully break back into the team shortly

I googled "joint compromised" just to see exactly what it meant. Not a huge amount came up. This video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzvHhnNYMqM&ab_channel=SMARTERTeamTraining) suggests that it's a term used to describe an athlete's vulnerability after an injury or surgery, e.g., ACL, and it means you need a tailored rehab avoiding unnecessary stresses on the affected area.

I'm not sure it necessarily means it's a permanent thing or if it is it might just mean a certain training regime is needed.

tommy_c12000
11/12/2022, 2:19 AM
It’s not a formal medical diagnosis just a made up descriptive phrase highlighting the need for Idah to be managed carefully with a tailored plan and his risk of future injuries. A bit unnecessary to label your 21 year old striker like that

It does give him a get out of jail card when fans complain about why he's not playing more - they're managing his condition

Still dividing opinion on the Norwich forum (https://forum.pinkun.com/index.php?/topic/150901-just-some-comments-from-the-match-thread-about-idah-%F0%9F%A5%A7/); obviously the goal helps, but the views that he's a handful are slightly outweighed by those that one swallow doesn't make a summer. And of course injury (and the bizarre "compromised athlete" comment) not helping right about now for sure.

31/12/2022, 7:51 AM
Idah needs to stay fit, not that youd be confident about it going on dean smiths comments, cant remeber a manager damaging a player with a comment like that before. Idah has a lot of strengths, and plenty of flaws, but theyre all irrelevant if he's not playing much football, which he hasnt for the past 2 years.

Really nice finish. He has the materials to be a very good player. The link up play looked decent on those highlights as well. He needs a really good coach to improve him and I think confidence is an issue. I'm not basing that on anything only a feeling I have but a finish like that can only help.

Idah might get a few minutes against Preston if the Canaries maintain their 3-0 lead.

I wonder if S Kenny is at this one -- 6 Republic of Ireland players between the two squads.

Same story this week - benched and Norwich go 3-0 up after 20 minutes away from home.

(Back to 3-2 now)

If that's the way it's too be until May, I think he should probably start looking for a move. He's been too long getting 15 minutes here and there

Given how long he’s been out and the fact he’s “compromised” I wouldn’t be in too much of a rush for him to move on. Staying fit is the most important thing. I think he’ll get another run of starts in the next few weeks.
