Surely everyone can agree that this is just the start his Celtic career needed? In fact with the current sense of crisis at Celtic it's even better. There was a real risk that more and more dropped points and no goals for Idah would have him judged in the same light as Duffy. Now he's suddenly a stand-out performer contributing vital goals at vital times.
I'm trying to think how many actual winners Oh has scored. I remember a home game last season when it was 1-1 and he scored on about 81 or 82 minutes. Not sure I can think of others. Edit: 83rd minute winner against St Mirren this season, and early opener against Hibs followed by a fourth just before Christmas. Both at home. 2 late goals in an easy home win v Aberdeen.
Home game against Dundee on Wednesday with Rangers playing on Kilmarnock's plastic pitch. Another chance for Idah to make a mark.

What about the other two, and the assist, he's gotten in the five games he's played for Celtic?
2 penalties, in a game where, other than when he was taking the peno's, you wouldn't have known he was on the pitch.

Ah in fairness, it's perfectly possible to say a player can take a good penalty and also say they had little contribution to the game from play.

They do count, however, on the off chance you don't get one, it's better to have 11 players contributing, rather than 10 plus Idah.

that's just not true. watched that game and some of his positioning and off the ball runs were very good and his work rate excellent. made a chance for himself at one stage by chasing down a defender out wide and nicking the ball off him.

What assists and winning goals that weren't penalties did he contribute against Hibs, the specific game that me and Tets are arguing over??

I'm not arguing about any game, I'm arguing above his performances as a whole on loan - 4 goals and an assist in five games.

Nice header from him again
only one goal out of the five, and not even the opener. Absolutely meaningless contribution again.

Subbed off after 60 mins he was so ineffective
we all want the lad to succeed but feels like another 2 steps forward one back situation today with the pen miss and the loss.

To be fair to him, outside of the missed peno, he played OK. Looked dangerous until Celtic went down to 10 men and they were very poor. He had one sublime touch to take the ball down from a Joe Hart kick out.

Two steps forward and one step back is still a positive in fairness.
Had a goal ruled out for offside I think - though he's always been weak beating the offside trap.

Think it should be noted they were down to ten men inside 15 minutes!

I actually thought he played pretty well today. Penalty miss was terrible though. His hold up play was good all through and I felt like he was one of Celtics better players on a day when too many were crap. He had a couple of chances that he might have scored.

I was thinking watching the City v United game that his role and his attributes (size, strength, pace...) are v similar to Haaland's and taht if I was coaching him I'd be telling him to study Haaland meticulously. Then Haaland cleared the crossbar from 5 yards!
I thgought he did well yesterday too, but obviouisly the pen miss was critical. I guessed he'd go central. Having gone both sides already I figured he'd fall victim to reverse psychology.

Was talking to a Celtic fan (not Irish so no bias) who was at their midweek game last week. Said he was sitting up fairly high and because the game was so one sided he ended up spending a good but of the game just watching Idah's play. His opinion was that he was more impressed by Idah's all round play than any Celtic striker he had seen for a few years - he was constantly on the move, trying to find space and making himself available as an outlet. He's disappointed Celtic didn't agree an option to buy as part of the loan and fears they may be outbid for him in the summer.

Piece by Michael Walker on Idah's impact. Provides some good context to his Norwich impact - 115 appearances, 76 from the bench and of the 39 starts he has only played 90 minutes in 12. So of his 115 appearances, less than 10% have seen him start and finish the game. Obviously there are the overarching challenges of form, confidence and injury but a lot of belts to take either not named in the starting team or looking over your shoulder for a shepherds hook 90% of the time...

I guess that just really backs up the idea he should have gone on loan a lot earlier. He's had chances in the first team but ultimately hasn't been good enough to stake a claim for a regular starting spot.
Norwich are flying since he left - 4-0 up at halftime today which would make it five wins and two draws from eight games. 19 goals in that time - 7 for Sergeant, 3 for Sara.
Obviously not saying Idah was holding them back - but does make you wonder where he'll be next season. They've Rowe to come back from injury too (he's out for Feb/March)

Back on the bench today at home v St Johnstone, which is a bit disappointing. Hopefully he can have the same impact as his last start from the bench (two goals v Motherwell)
Scales not in the squad as feared - has to be a doubt for the March friendlies.

Not able to watch but credited with an assis t for an O'Riley goal. If I'm Rodgers I'm not starting him a whole pile either in games like today. Might snag him in the summer a little easier if he's coming in and having an impact rather than starting him over an asset like Furuhashi. Kyogo is 29 too so maybe time to sell and replace with Idah to mix up style too.
Will be interesting few months for Celtic. Title tilt, fall out or celebrations and aftermath.

A shame for Idah. Another time he does that and he's the hero and gets all the plaudits after the game. Today, through absolutely no fault of his own, he got about 30 seconds coverage in the post game analysis and was nowhere to be seen in the TV interviews.
I do think his goal earned them a crucial point though. I wouldn't have fancied them to hang on for a 2-2 had he not scored it.

Agreed. Disappointed not to hang on but my overriding emotion is to be gutted for Idah. Denied a career-establishing goal. Yang was terrible for the equaliser but it was great execution.

Another late sub appearance and another later sub goal today. 7 in 10 since joining Celtic, but only four starts, which is disappointing. You'd imagine her have been keen to try shake the image of super-sub he seemed to have at Norwich

Still another goal all the same though. He's building a nice tally and you'd have to think Celtic will want to make the move permanent in the summer, even if he costs a sizeable fee by Scottish football standards.

It's down to Rogers insistence of playing 1 striker instead of trying to get Kyogo and Idah into the team together. Even so, Idah has been excellent and I'd love to see him move permanently..... a conspiracy theorist might suggest Celtic keeping him on bench to keep the transfer fee down :)

For sure. He's long needed a loan and he's done well enough with it. Was it Venezia he was linked with in January? I don't think that would have worked near as well for example. Celtic seems to have been the right move at the right time
How to kick on though? I think a summer move would be good - Norwich are flying and it's hard to see him making an impact there, especially if they go up (they're arguably the form team in the playoffs now). Does he go back to Celtic if he can't get in the team? Or is there a Plan C?
He's only scored once from play in his four starts and generally underwhelmed too. Four goals and an assist off the bench though. Being used now just as he was at Norwich. Hopefully won't get typecast

Realistically he'll most likely be an impact sub option for us for the next few years too with Ferguson and Szmodics around the place. So it might not be the worst thing from our point of view. He could be our Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer, since it turns out that Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer isn't going to be our Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer.

hopefully he is advised wisely i.e get out of the championship. follow parrotts route and get a move to the continen, get a run of starts under his belt and then see how things go from there.

Extract from Chris Sutton (copied from twitter, original Daily Record?) before today’s game;
If it wasn’t for Rabbi Matondo’s sublime equaliser, Idah would have gone down as an Old Firm hero.
As it was, he has only added to his case for a permanent transfer this summer. That’s six goals in just nine games for Idah – and only six starts– and I’m sure Norwich City fans will be wondering where it’s come from.
I don’t. I’ve always said he has ability and sometimes it just needs a change of scenery for a player to spark into life. By all accounts Idah was the one who really pushed for the move to Celtic and he’s really grabbed his chance. It wasn’t easy when he came in but he’s won over a lot of supporters.
There was some talk when he arrived that it would cost around £3m to get him on a permanent deal and if that’s the figure this summer, it would be an absolute steal. Idah has shown he can bring something different to the attack. Kyogo will always be the main man when fit, but it’s important to have a different option in certain games or coming off the bench.
When you consider some of the cash spent on strikers at Celtic in recent years, that would be small change to land a player who still has more developing to do and plenty of potential. If Idah does the business in the remainder of the campaign it would be a crying shame not to buy him.

Lovely words from Chris Sutton. Now let's look back at how he predicted this move would go when the signing was announced back in January.

Notice it's been a while since a post on this thread.
Idah has been playing around 20 or 25 minutes a game for Celtic since the international break. He always comes on around the 70 minute mark and has done the last 7 domestic games.
Rodgers plumping for Kyogo. And he can't be faulted in doing so given he is his permanent player.
But he definitely could have given Idah a start or two. No doubt about it. Idah came on against Rangers at the weekend and could have had a goal or two. Could have done better but the keeper was out well in both instances. If he were on for the 90, I'd imagine he could have scored alright, based on those 20 minutes.
Anyway, he looked on it like he did coming in against Switzerland. Charging around with pace and power, touch looking closer and dribbling more than he used to.
Unless Kyogo leaves I can't see why he'd join Celtic. Rodgers has probably put a ceiling on his value by not starting him. But if Celtic like the quoted price then I'm sure Idah would go there and get more games. And he would do well but he may not be the number 1 number 9.

Rogers has annoyed me a bit by not finding a way to get both Kyogo and Idah in the team, but hard to argue too much given the results. Celtic have been playing well in the close of the season too. I think even though he has only been a sub Idah has done himself no harm at all. Hes impacted every game that hes come on, should have scored more but hes played well. Will be an interesting summer ahead for him, I wouldnt be surprised to see a number of clubs chasing him.

13 league appearances (and two more games to play), so yes, he'll definitely get a winners medal. Potential double on the cards as well with the cup final to come. I think there's a good chance they'll sign him because they won't get many strikers to come to Glasgow with his age profile and ability for under £10m, and they can get Idah for under £10m.
