David McDonald - listed as English. despite being born in Dublin, and having U21 and B caps for Ireland - https://www.premierleague.com/players/553/David-McDonald/overview
Matthew Rush - - listed as English, despite having u21 Ireland caps - https://www.premierleague.com/players/801/Matthew-Rush/overview#!
Joe Sheerin - actually not sure about this one, he played about a minute of Premier League football, as a sub for Chelsea. He's described as having being "tipped as future Republic of Ireland striker" here: https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/planet-football-1.1307780
but I don't think he ever played international football, at any level, for anyone. I have no idea how I got his name either

Thanks. Yes McDonald and Rush are legit, both capped for Ireland and nobody else. I'm not sure I would include Sheerin, he never played for us or was called up as far as I know. There are a few more like Darren Sheridan (John's brother), Marc Tierney (his brother Paul player for us) and Richard Stearman who would be in a similar position to Sheerin, certainly eligible and linked to us but never called up or capped, so I think too much of a stretch to classify them as Irish players. I'd say 192 is the best number to use then after Collins' appearance.

Excellent performance by him tonight against the guile and trickery of Jiminez and Hwang and pace of Traore. Looked so accomplished and constantly leading the line. Absolutely love O’Shea, however this lad defensively looks a cut above. Blessed with all three, however will be interesting to see who of the pair and Omobamidele rise highest.

Burnley fans seem suitably impressed - two games and their only two clean sheets of the season - don’t seem to be missing Tarkowski…

Be great to see both rise to the absolute top level.

I think we've been pretty hard on our young striking talent, and there's plenty of time for them to come right, even if we're impatient.

We've smashing goalkeeping talent..

One or maybe two decent creative midfielders.. oh what would we give for them.

Think Collins has the talent to rise to the top level and thought a top club might have come in for him and loaned him out. Once Tarkowski leaves and he goes in at first choice you'll have top clubs eyeing him up in a few seasons.

O'Shea has more experience than Omobamidele and West Brom haven't looked the same in defence since he's missing, but think Omobamidele could go further than him.

Don't think he'll reach top level like Collins, who I think could start for a league winning team if he continues the way he is. But look at Nathan Ake, starting for a team that got relegated and was picked up by City as a squad player.

All three though I feel will be Premier League regulars, and along with Bazunu, Travers, and Kelleher I think we'll be well stocked at GK and CB with top quality players. Dunne just seems to be getting better and better with QPR and McGuinness is learning his trade with Cardiff but should find himself up at the top end of the championship in time.

Just need some FBs to appear from somewhere now but feels like lads coming through are more suited to the WB role or more comfortable given most teams play it. Danny McNamara, Peter Kioso, Ryan Manning, Joel Bagan all playing for teams that use 3 or 5 at the back. Ebosele has played mostly RB or RW, reminds me of Ogbene but better technically and should have a better end product than him. They've already got the same number of league goals in England.

Collins is getting great accolades.

Seems like Burnley fans are struggling with the conundrum of accommodating three good centre halves into a 4-4-2. Certainly made an encouraging impression so far…

Sent off for a blatant foul in injury time away to Brentford. With Ben Mee out, this couldn't come at a worse time for Collins. I think there may be a chance that Kevin Long makes his league debut in the next match.

They've no matches until after the international break so Mee could be back by then. Don't think there's been any news about how long he'll be out for.

Lovely goal for Nathan Collins from a corner, at the far post, sidefoots it back across a crowd of players and it hits the back of the net.

He could have scored earlier too but for a block by the Everton defender.

Everton are going down.

I agree with you but the club is a shambles. He was the “best” of a bad lot which tells its own story. I honestly think they’d be better off if they’d have put Big Dunc in to the end of the season.

With a bit of luck they'll go down and Burnley will stay up. Looking at the remaining games you'd favour Burnley to pick up more points than Everton who've got games against United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Leicester twice, and Chelsea.

Thought he had a brilliant first half with the goal and a few clearances to save certain goals and the opposite in the second, gave the ball away a few times with his partner centre half getting him out of jail in one instance with a block.

Fine prospect for us all the same.

As much as they hate Rafa, he'd have kept them up. I'd have bet my house on it. Playing without Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin, Mina, Allan, Townsend - all with medium term injuries, he had them in 15th, 6 points off the drop zone.

He also had absolutely nothing to work with. Spent a total of half a million buying Townsend, Gray, Begovic, Rondon and Lonergan in the summer. Got rid of James Rodriguez, Bernard and Walcott - all of whom had absurd wages (as of summer 2020, Everton had a higher wage bill than Liverpool). So incredibly mis-managed for years. The fact they've lost £373 million over the last 3 years speaks volumes...

All I'm gonna say is, poor Seamus Coleman...

They'll likely start to blood Patterson in more if they get relegated. Championship is two games a week so he'd Next season could very well be Coleman's last season at Everton and long term for us it's more beneficial if Collins is the one playing in the PL. Burnley are also the one team that gets linked with Knight and have been named as one of the teams watching Cullen. Them staying up benefits us more imo.

Lovely finish by him. I might be reading into it a bit much because of the importance of the goal at the time given their situation but he received a serious embrace from the entire team. He seems a great character from seeing and hearing him speak, intelligent and grounded.

With Mclean injured, I guess that means Colemans and Doherty will be the wing backs
With Duffy and Egan nailed down at CB. it maybe be a shoot out for one spot between O Shea, Collins and Andrew "O"

JR89

If we end up with Coleman and Doherty at WB I'd prefer to see Collins come in alongside Duffy and Egan. Omobamidele is out with a back injury and O'Shea hasn't played much since coming back from his injury. I like O'Shea but feel Collins is more suited to how Kenny wants his RCB and LCB pushing up into attacking areas.

Don't see Doherty pushing across while Stevens is fit, and think Christie will be called up in June. Four games in two weeks will test Coleman and Stevens has had his issues with injuries. Think Coleman mainly plays RCB with Doherty/Christie at RWB and Stevens/Manning if McClean is out at LWB with Doherty pushing across if needed.

Richardson has said there's a very slight possibility he could return before the end of the season and their season ends five weeks before our first game. Won't be surprised to see him lining out for us come June.

Olé Olé

Agree on this and O'Shea still hasn't got back into the WBA team so he won't have many games under his belt come June, even if he does make his way back in.

ah Doc has been on fire at LWB for Spurs recently and was instrumental in how well we played in Faro. I think he's a very serious option now at LWB.

Sould have had an assist too, not sure how Weghorst missed his chance. Be a shame to see him playing in the Championship next season. Far from the finished product but looks a natural at this level.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Man United be linked with him in the summer. Hes been on the radar there since his Stoke days. They will clear out some dead wood like Bailly and Jones and they might look at Collins as a relatively cheap replacement who could be a good squad player.

They also have a history of signing young players with little Premiership football, like Smalling for example.

Definitely has the attributes to go right to the top. Himself and Bazunu are the two most likely Irish players to make it at top clubs for us.

This guy is really good. I thought Burnley were going down for sure when they lost to Norwich but with the win today over Southampton, they're in with a shot of staying up. I don't know if he's the kind of player Manchester United need, but he definitely looks gifted in the few matches I've seen him play in the last few weeks.

I've followed Nathan Collins career with interest for a number of years now. What he is playing at the moment - for Burnley, for Ireland last month... this isn't news - this is the ability he's had.

He's big, strong, deceptively quick, agile. He's a heads up player, composed and calm, and he's very aggressive with the ball at his feet, very progressive when his team are in possession, and ultra strong at set-pieces in both boxes.

I said to a friend who follows the Irish teams more than English football a few months ago - he could be playing somewhere big outside England in 3 years time. He's that good.

I watched a good bit of the game last night and his pace surprised me a couple of times. I'm still not sure he's great on the turn, but in a straight sprint he really covers a lot of ground quick. Would be interested to see him in more of a footballing team to see how he'd get on, and you'd have to imagine he's going to be attracting some serious interest with his current form.

Olé Olé
22/04/2022, 3:46 PM
His height, stature and pace are immense. The turn point is fair. But his pace to size ratio seems very, very impressive for a football player. He looks like he's really. When he strode into the box and gently pushed James Ward Prowse into the ground and earned his bit of hang time.. it was all so graceful.

22/04/2022, 6:55 PM
He should be starting for us if we're building for the future. Preferably alongside Omobamidele and Egan is a back three. I know Duffy has been a great servant and his commitment and passion are immense, but I don't think he would justify selection in the longer term with the players we have coming through who are better footballers and are more suited to Kenny's approach.

Eirambler
22/04/2022, 7:05 PM
In terms of June Egan, Duffy and Collins should be the three centre backs. Omobamidele is injured and O'Shea doesn't look fully fit, but can provide cover hopefully.
