I hate the Swiss but I cant help but love that they are still in this game. Very well organised team. Maybe we should get an old club manager legend as our manager....
Heh the Swiss are fine, boring yes but.............practical:D
Come on Hopp Schwiiz
That fecking keeper is rubbish tough

Well, yes. But not as if he's one of these...
As for the game, for sake of football, hope Argentina win today...then lose in the quarters. Short of Messi, they're desperate...

The Al Jazeera thing was no big deal.
At least he didn't say "Al-Qaeda", I guess.
But I'm thinking of the ca. 98 madness.
That was just weird; how could you leave Gazza out, like? Gazza?!... :p

This 15 minutes is Switzerland's big chance to win the game. Argentina look wrecked and uninterested in chasing it.

Argentina get out of jail again. Shocking miss from the Swiss guy at the death.

Pished off with that, god damn it. Only cause i had a bit of money on them to get to the quarters:mad: Why the hell are the Swiss so boring: football, beer, life, its all so DULL. If Ireland played out that kind of rubbish Id be so disappointed!
Ah well at least Dundalk won. :D

That was a stunning extra time.
The Swiss did very well out there, enough to be totally gutted at the end. I don't know why pundits made a big deal about the Swiss defensive set up, that was 95% down to just one player called Messi, brilliant play at the end by him and di maria
The header miss by the Swiss sub Dzemaili, it came to him late, he's obviously not a striker, he was brought on for the penalty shoot out.

I think that very late free for a "foul" on Shaqiri was actually a free, despite no contact. All the usual reasons. Discuss.
Also, pundits on bbc moaning about a poor game. It's not their job to have us in raptures. It's their job to try and win a football game. 50 million people in both teams' countries don't give a hoot how entertaining it was. Lawrenson really is a miserable git.

Dzemaili was off-balance and was caught by surprise by the rebounding ball. He tried his physical best to get the knee on which his weight was further to his left to get a better angle on what was a very awkward ball, but had to just move at it when it came to him or the chance was gone for good with two Argentinians behind him. It's gutting, but it wasn't a sitter. There was little else he could have done to compose himself and get his leg around it.

Don't tease me!
OK, I'll be brief; I think it was too, despite Shaqiri diving. Perhaps my feeling is coloured by earlier discussion, but it was an undoubtedly careless tackle.

Ah well Danny, what can you say on his behalf, he's been in germany for a season or two. They have it pumped into them there, morning noon and night since kindergarten, to look like you haven't passed stool for a week and now it's time but there's somebody occupying the bathroom.

Actually it was a proper foul (IMO) and awful game tbf in general for the neutrals, so the pundits right on this one.
As for the USA chant, let's just say the basic premise is it has to be, er, simple....

Don't get why Belgium are persisting with the high crosses. American defence is dealing with all of them, but anytime Belgium play it low and into the box the Yanks look very dodgy. Americans very weak defending counter-attacks as well, Belgium should have scored a few that way.

Here's "the world" (some US cities and a bunch of American fans in the stadium) reacting to John Brooks' goal against Ghana:

Belgium becoming more dominant and getting closer. If they go 1-0 up, I don't see the US coming back. They may just about hold on though. Howard is a trusty custodian.
Bradley is a terrific player. Such a work-horse and not bad with the ball at his feet either.

It's the kind of game where if Belgium score one they'll probably end up winning by three or four. The American defence can only handle Belgium's ground football by swarming whoever is holding the ball.

Put 'em Under Pressure is a bit cringey but at least it's musical. "I Believe That We Will Win" is syntactically awkward. It's one step away from wishing that both sides just go out there and have a really good time.

I'm relatively young and healthy, but I don't think my heart will last this tournament.
Was Wondolowski actually flagged offiside there? He was miles onside. What a diabolical miss though.

This has been one of the most frustrating matches of the World Cup to watch for attacking football. Belgium just can't put in the net. Howard is just immense.

The look on Klinsmann's face was great on the replay - looked for an offside flag, didn't see one, and the gravity of the miss kicked in.

I don't know if it would have been horribly unjust for Belgium if that had gone in. It would have been a suitable punishment for failing to put away any of those chances.

Super game. Howard is having one of those games I loved having as a keeper, even though they were rare. Lots of saves, none of them difficult, though the Mirallas save was good BTF.
Really enjoying this one. That bloke whose name begins with W just bailed the linesman out there. Or did the linesman bail him out?! Shocking miss, shocking decision.
And as for pundits, I'm enjoying Danny Murphy.

It's been open and end-to-end, with Belgium dominating. They've simply been unable to finish off their attacks - primarily due to Howard's heroics - but I wouldn't say I'm frustrated viewing it. The excitement is immense once again. So many of the games are going to extra-time.

Ah the USA have great heart but very little skill. Football is all about opinions, I think Bradley is awful, but there you go. That Right back for the USA is immense though. If it wasnt for Howard Belgium could have got about 5 goals tbh.
