Has he inevitably defected yet?
He's obviously not going to defect, he's been an Irish international for 10 years. How and ever(sic), I wouldn't blame him if he retired from international football with stuff like this:

Arter should recognise that social media doesn't represent civilised society for the most part. These clowns really are the bottom of the barrel and best ignored completely.

"This was Irish people who had looked at a few newspaper stories and come to the conclusion that I was about to go and play for England. I never said that was happening and my stance on the whole story was that I didn't need to comment on something that was little more than a rumour."

If that wouldn't kill the idea nothing will.

Joe I was being a bit facetious in fairness as the last few days in this thread have been interminable.

Wonder what Merson has to say?

He had a poor game according to he ratings, 6.9 Bournemouth lowest (well one 6.8 and another 6.9).

Just seen the highlights of the goals he was not involved in any.

Nursing his injury no doubt.

hmmmm......

shouldnt b questioning this lads commitment been with us since 17s saw him get sent off in a 17s game in tolka against I think Serbia and he was highly thought of at the time at charlton. He has turned his career around massively after been let go and moving for was it 5 grand transfer fee and obviously had a horrific year personally last year something he likely will never get over. This lad deserves our support and is a great example to all of us

I think most people here support him but a few cranks, sensationalists and couch potatoes who don't understand what a minor injury is will still see something to moan about.

I remember when Liverpool played Rovers at Milltown in a friendly in the early 80s. Ronnie Whelan got booed every time he touched the ball and got met with chants old "Why don't you play for Ireland?". Some obviously felt he pulled out of squads too easily.

Yes initinially when that was reported I thought it was some joker on twitter but it is official.

CHERRIES are sweating on the fitness of Harry Arter after the midfielder left Vitality Stadium on crutches.
Republic of Ireland international Arter played the full 90 minutes of today's 6-1 trouncing of Hull City in the Premier League.
However, the 26-year-old appeared to be feeling the effects of a first-half challenge by the Tigers' Robert Snodgrass.
Arter clutched his knee following the late tackle and was subsequently attended to by physio Steve Hard (http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/search/?search=Steve+Hard&topic_id=3729).

So.... some good new there.... :p

So is Jon deserving of credit for playing through the pain? Or should he have tapped out like Arter?

I think it was moronic to bring a player who obviously wasn't fit enough to contribute properly to the Euros, but it should have been up to the management team to leave him out.

In all fairness Stutts, there is a difference between a professional athlete getting an injury and one of us getting an injury.

In the context we're talking about the only difference is that the risk of aggravating a relatively small injury is more serious for a pro. In almost every other respect it's perfectly valid to compare the two. An injury can take 3-5 days to heal. On day 1 it might be unwise to play, on day 5 it might be fine. The healing process might be quicker for a pro due to the quality of the physio treatment available. You often hear managers says stuff like "the game came just a few days too early for him".

I have no idea what the real extent of Arter's injury was but it'd surprise me if he was skiving because he had a great chance of starting in the two games. The only thing I am sure about is that in purely generic terms, a minor injury can rule a player out of a game but can be clear a week later. I think the only reason you're not accepting that is because it undermines your case against Arter.

Harry Arter will force his way into the Republic of Ireland's starting line-up if he sustains his early-season Premier League form, according to Eddie Howe.
Bournemouth boss Howe hailed midfielder Arter's all-action showing that underpinned the Cherries' 6-1 hammering of Hull, (http://www.skysports.com/football/bmouth-vs-hull-city/report/356406) then tipped the 26-year-old for further Ireland honours

Maybe they are refering to the same award? I guess so as the Premierleague would give the official award, the stats site uses it own stats based system.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, speaking after Bournemouth’s draw with Tottenham today, was full of praise for the 26 year-old man of the match award.

“It was the best midfield performance I’ve seen all season in the Premier League. He was all action.
“It wasn’t just the tackles. It was the passing. It was the energy he showed. He was the player who epitomised how Bournemouth played today. Everything about his game was sensational.”

Redknapp wasn’t the only one who was impressed.

Was not just Redknapp either, 3 twitter users also praised him highly, one of whom has nearly 600 followers.

interesting video analysis of Arter: http://www.footballdiscovery.com/video-analysis/39-harry-s-game-why-ireland-need-to-make-arter-a-key-figure

it has finally clicked who he reminds me of in this video. Our very own Mark Noble!!

They are very similar players actually, having watched a bit of West Ham this season and most recently yesterday, both very effective link players who start deep. They are both the players on the team that can control the teams tempo. One thing that perhaps Noble brings that Harry doesnt is more of a threat around the top of the box but, having said that, Arter has a couple of goals to his name since Bournemouth got promoted to the PL.

Really cant wait to see him become a fixture for us.

I'd be surprised if he has been an unused substitute more than once or twice. You would swear he has been travelling to away friendlies in Siberia without getting on the pitch for several years.

I'd say he will play in Austria with McCarthy and Quinn unavailable. I think MON would be risking assassination if he started O'Kane instead of him.

you must be really surprised so, he was an unused sub against Bosnia twice, Poland at home and Serbia away

you must be really surprised so, he was an unused sub against Bosnia twice, Poland at home and Serbia away

The Poland match was his first call up (I think), and the two Bosnia games followed his debut against England and it would have been a big shout starting him regardless of getting two good results.

The Serbia game followed a relatively successful European Championships.

There is an argument he should have started the Serbia game only, but even that came after missing the European Championships through injury.

People say he should have came on in Serbia, but Stephen Quinn changed the game with his introduction (and I'm not his biggest fan) and Daryl Murphy set one up for Shane Long and ultimately scored the equalizer that secured a point.

And we were hardly going to throw him on in the last minute in lieu of Ciaran Clark when we were playing out the last moments of the game.

Stuttgart88
12/11/2016, 8:26 PM
What's your point?

TheOneWhoKnocks
12/11/2016, 9:26 PM
My point is the nonsense POV that he has been unfairly ignored by MON that prevails among certain fans.

Which is only debatable for one of them.

And the nonsense POV that he was mistreated somehow by not coming on in Serbia - when the two subs who did come on got us back into that game.

Not saying that attitude prevailed here but it was commonplace everywhere else.

This fear that he would declare for England because he didn't start on his debut or a Playoff or the first game after a Euros he missed through injury.
