He has previously been called into the USA U18 squad. His dad Kevin Scott played for Newcastle, Tottenham and Norwich and is now a coach at Stoke.

Norway's goal came from a header at the far post from a free kick. Norway very much on top in the first half, apart from a brief rally from the Ireland team towards the end. Ireland improved in the second half, with substitute Jack Byrne coming close from a shot from distance. Other than that, the Norwegian centre half dealt with everything comfortably.
Noe Baba was playing through the middle, and seemed to be involved in everything, but tired towards the end of the second half. The Irish keeper didn't impress me either, punched a few clearances when it seemed easier to catch.
Not sure of the name of the lad up front by himself (he was wearing number 9) but there seemed to be a bit of the Anthony Stokes "try to beat the opposition single handedly" attitude to him, kept running into dead ends in possession and trying to dribble past two or more players when a simple pass earlier would have released a teammate.
Incidentally, the ref was a woman, first time I've been to a game with a female ref

yeah, according to the review on loi19.com it was him: http://loi19.com/index.php/international/latest-news/105-republic-of-ireland-0-1
The right sided centre half who was wearing 15 was good as well I thought.

On a slightly related note, I was watching Stokes' performance last week and was remembering seeing him play for Ireland u-19 against their German counterparts at Dalyer in 2007 in Euro Elite qualifying. I googled the game there, expecting to see a heap of familiar German names, and to see which of the Irish lads went on to play senior for us.
Sobering reading.

And he managed to fall out with 3 of the better players duffy, brady and mcginty and left them out of the tournament

I read somewhere that Viera really rates Jack Byrne, Ian Lawlor, some Spanish and some Portuguese lad. I'll try and find it, but he was talking about being really happy with the academy and them having alot of local Mancunians in the youth teams, but he seems to namecheck those four lads in the article. Fairly sure that he told Pellegrini to look at Ian Lawlor and that was why he was upped to their Champions League squad for a game a few weeks ago.

Care of Liamoo, here's the U19 squad for the forthcoming friendlies with Romania: http://www.fai.ie/international/under-19/103783-doolin-announces-u19-squad-for-friendlies-in-cork.html
Eric Grimes (Leeds United)
Liam Bossin (Anderlecht)
Kyle McFadden (Norwich City)
Lee Desmond (Shelbourne)
Noe Baba (Fulham)
Ryan O'Reilly (Stoke City)
Ben McLaughlin (Everton)
Bobby Moseley (Birmingham City)
Adam Wixted (Derby County)
Alan Browne (Preston North End)
Alex O'Hanlon (Liverpool)
Connor Dimaio (Sheffield United)
Liam Kelly (Reading)
Thomas Mulroney (St Patricks Athletic)
Darren Murphy (Cork CIty)
Dylan Kavanagh (UCD AFC)
Alan O'Sullivan (Aberdeen)
Josh O'Hanlon (Bournemouth)
Sam Byrne (Manchester United - on-loan at Carlisle United)
A second player from Anderlecht now - does anybody know anything about Liam Bossin? There's a French-Irish name if ever I saw one. No Jack Byrne or Conor Wilkinson as Liamoo says, I can only assume that both are needed by their clubs? Byrne will be involved with City in the Youth Champions League a few days later and Wilkinson with Torquay - presumably both games will be a higher standard than a friendly with Romania. Great to see Josh O'Hanlon in there too after his move from Longfort.

Ian Lawlor is now missing from the U21 and U19 squads, very strange. Byrne hasn't really featured for Man City recently, he was injured before Christmas and hasn't gotten his place back. Was an unused sub in the youth champions league against Athletico Madrid earlier.

Bossin's a goalkeeper, born in Belgium. Seems to have already have had some first team experience according to this - http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=nl&u=http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liam_Bossin&prev=/search%3Fq%3DLiam%2BBossin%26safe%3Doff%26client%3 Dubuntu%26hs%3DpLV%26channel%3Dfs - Not sure how he qualifies for Ireland, but he's on twitter if you want to ask him: https://twitter.com/LiBossin24

Could the City players be an issue with player release then? Are clubs required to let players go for U19 games?
Had a search for Bossin and turned up this from Anderlecht's website:
Liam Bossin has been selected for the Irish U19 friendlies against Romania on 4 and 6 March. "Liam Bossin is very interesting," says Paul Doolin, Ireland's U19 national coach. "He was recommended to us by Jean Kindermans. His mother, Majella Carton is Irish, and Liam is therefore part of the squad. I will certainly follow him closely," concludes the Irish coach

Meara has had trouble with injury for the last 12 months. Got fit towards the end of the MLS season but lost his place. Unless he starts playing regularly again for NY I can't see him being named in the senior squad. He's too old for the U21's now (I think)
