Dunno about the numbers but Deasy is a right back and Best is a centre back usually

Bye bye Mr. Doolin...

To be fair this is the first time in years we have not got to the 2nd elite round phase and he did take us to the semi s with the group that had hendrick in it even without brady when deulofeu from everton destroyed us . this scots side got to the euro 17s semi finals 2 years ago so must have bit about them. The group looked awful light and as much as people hate to hear it havin a lot of league of ireland lads in the squad is usually a sign of a lack of dept in an age group. Next years group for example is unlikely to have many lads who are not in the uk involved.

Great to see kinsella back. they left out alot of the lads who were first choice for the 17s in the euro finals hopefully building dept for the 19s qualifiers next season, Think doolin deserves to stay but will be under pressure if does not get this group to the 19s finals next season. Mcdonagh looks like a giant in the photo!!

Ryan Johansson of Bayern Munich is included. If he plays in the U19 qualifiers in October - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_UEFA_European_Under-19_Championship_qualification#Group_10 - will that mean he's tied to Ireland, since he's already played for Luxembourg's U17 side?

Oh that's interesting! One for the experts... I think you are right though, as of today. There was some talk last year of relaxing this somewhat but my understanding is that you can switch once, and that the switch applies to moving from any other nationality / age group regardless of whether the fixture was competitive or not.

Aside from that, do we know much about Tom Gaston? I don't think I've seen the name before. Looks Irish anyway:

That really is a heck of a forward line (and doesn't even include Ryan Cassidy) - bit light in midfield so it's good that Johansson has come on board.

interesting to See how that lines up. Smallbone Is a Centre mid not a forward looked decent against man utd 23 s a few weeks Ago and tall! Would It be fair to say brandon kavanagh Is a technical midfielder not a forward?still leaves six forwards but to be fair you would feel you could play parrott in any outfield position and he would look assured. Defensively at fullback lyons and ö connor should be exciting

Sorry, I'm wrong about both players. Flanagan was born in August 99, players born on or after 1st January 2000 are eligible for the u19 championships next year

Cassidy is overage for the U17 championships next year. He was born in March 2001, players born on our after 1st January 2002 are eligible for the U17.

Parrott was born in February 2002, so is still eligible.

I thought Smallbone had, but I can't find anything about it.
Ferry hasn't, but was born in Bury so is obviously eligible. Incidentally, he already has first team experience after being named on the bench for Bury in April 2017, before his move to Southampton

Kavanagh plays either side of a front three for Rovers. He'd probably slot in as a number 10 in that squad too.

At least we can't blame Roy for this one or can we?there might be something to it. A bit of research has told me Will Smallbone's mother is a Kilkenny woman. Healthy presence in the Southampton academy of Irish players could be contributing to him and Ferry feeling comfortable with us. You must imagine there's a camaraderie between themselves, Afolabi, O'Connor, Obafemi and O'Driscoll.

IRLU19 team to play Wales: Maher, O'Connor (capt), Ferry, James, Collins, Coventry, McAuley, Bolger, Idah, Smallbone, Parrott.

Obafemi was in the original squad but not there now. Anyone know if it is injury or if he is deciding to play for Nigeria? Gavin Kilkenny was called up instead.

Finished in a 1-0 win for Wales

There was a brief mention of him impressing on his debut (http://www.the42.ie/ireland-u19s-vs-wales-friendly-report-tom-mohan-ryan-johansson-4226631-Sep2018/), playing the last half hour in the 1-0 defeat, but he wasn't mentioned in the report for the second game (http://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/ireland-u19-second-half-goals-beat-wales-in-galway).

Ryan Johansson made his international debut for Ireland on the hour mark, replacing Will Smallbone. The Bayern Munich player had a chance to equalise with 15-minutes to go, but his shot went narrowly wide.
