How did Mann & Feeny look Tets ?
Mann was solid, but nothing spectacular. Feeney came on with about 20 minutes to go, hard to judge at that stage because Azerbaijan had pretty much given up
goals and some highlights here
McGrath's second goal wasn't quite as spectacular as I thought, but still a great finish.

Hopefully they can qualify. No byrne. No o hanlon cleary or whelan from the pool. O Hanlon went off injured on Monday so maybe that is issue or maybe not. Hard to believe these 4 lads would not add to the team. We have some midfield if byrne and o hanlon cant get in squad.

Byrne's been promoted to the u21 squad, O'Hanlon might be the same.

I agree completely. Gives them the best chance of qualifying.
<EDIT>
hmmm, the U21 squad named last week has Byrne in it: http://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/king-names-squad-for-uefa-u21-opener-in-waterford
but no Cleary or O'Hanlon. Curiouser and curiouser.

Cleary, O'Hanlon and Byrne should be there. All are playing well for their clubs and if we make the u19 euros, then it could be the push that our players need at their clubs. I would query if O'Hanlon and Cleary ****ed off the set-up by playing for Liverpool rather than coming over for a friendly. I'd personally prefer if Byrne played for the u19s given that they have a decent chance of qualifying, rather than the u21 game.
Cleary is a very decent defender. He has a great ability to get goals which helps to catch the eye. I wouldn't rate the Liverpool defence too highly, so it's possible he could get a chance at some point. Personally, i think he will become a decent mid-lower premiership club player at best. Nothing wrong with that at all. His next loan move is vital.
O'Hanlon is easilly in the top 4 or 5 players in the Liverpool u21 team. Their u21 team is excellent so that sounds alot worse than it is - put it this way I would say there is maybe five or six players that could play at a very high level. O'Hanlon is a Rodgers type player, but I'm not sure he would do too well in League 1 or the lower realms of the Championship getting kicked around, which is the initial level that he might have to play at to make an impression - funny enough O'Hanlon and Welshman Harry Wilson might make a massive impression if they got into Pool's first team. Liverpool are stacked with excellent players going forward. The jury is out on whether he will become the latest victim of a player who could have become really top class if we had a proper development structure in place in this country.
Whelan is a very promising defender, but I can't say I've seen too much of him. The word from Anfield is that Conor Masterson is really making an impression - I know he's not going to play for the u19s this year but it's good to see nonetheless.
Byrne is different class. He has as much if not more technical ability as O'Hanlon, but he is uber confident. I had great faith in Conor Clifford becoming a top player and I got that badly wrong, but I have massive faith that Byrne will play at a very high level. Put it this way, I view him as every bit as good if not better
than Grealish. He may need a loan to a good Championship club or lower premiership club next season, but unlike O'Hanlon, I think he could hack the physcial intensity of the Championship.

Every so often a post comes along...
Great stuff. Excited about Byrne and O'Hanlon. It's such a difficult task predicting how these youngsters will go, particularly at the top tier clubs. John O'Shea and Darron Gibson have gone on to establish themselves as definite PL players. Others establish varying levels of careers at varying levels of the football pyramid (Flood, Partridge, Barrett, Stokes, Clifford and so on and so forth).

God some of the lads mentioned there had great talent. Bad luck through injuries, being at the wrong club at the wrong time or maybe not having the best attitude cost us a few great players down the years...the curse of the Irish youth star :)

the 17s hopefully will make it. interesting the ronan lad seems to have chosen us for now having played for the brits 17s in a friendly last month and the articldes seems to suggest that scully has also chosen us but misses out cause injured. I think masterson might have been with the 19s if these 2 tournaments had not overlapped. This is Baba s 3rd season playing for the under 19s which is a great achievement

great post . What always amazes me is how underrated o hanlon is on the youth forum on redandwhitekop which has a massive youth/reserves section. To me aside from ojo I think he is the most likely to play at the top end of the premiership. Really think he will have a far better career than the likes of branagan, rossitor, wilson, kent, canos etc who are all similiar creative players(except rossitor) who are lauded on the youth form. great thing about the pool underage is you can nearly always see their 18s and 21s games

I think o'hanlon went there with such a massive reputation that expectations were very high on him. The big thing is that homesickness can play a massive part with these young players. I feel that he is now living up to those expectations and he's beginning to get more recognition as a result. at least, Rodgers has shown he isn't afraid to throw young players in!

I wouldn't worry too much about their omission there. They have plenty of time to play U21 as they are eligible for the 2017-2019 U21 European Championships. There are 3 1996 players in that squad. Jack Byrne, Josh Cullen and Reece Grego-Cox

Jamie aherne played for Liverpool here over the summer but he must not have signed.
Great to see Whelan in thought he might have switched back.
Mulhern seems to score a good but for Leeds am I right in saying his brother plays rugby league for British?

Now that you mention those LOI lads, am I right in saying the portion of Irish-born players with British clubs in this squad is quite small?
I think the following are Irish-born (I think): McCabe, Talbot, Casey, Kane, McCourt, Masterson, Breslin, Shodipo (not sure how long he was here for after birth). That's 8. And 7 LOI-based with the rest English-born (Cadman, Whelan, Mulhern, Ronan, Sweeney being 5).

Was in Limerick, and off work today, so managed to make it to the game in the Market's Field. The U19s lost 2-1.
Game overall wasn't great, Ireland's goal was probably the highlight. Both Ukrainian goals came from crosses from the wing, and strikers nicking in behind a static defence. Their first goal came from the left wing, and converted from close in. The second from the right and was headed in, again from close range.

No Masterson, or Whelan from Liverpool. Seriously, is there something going on that academy players from Liverpool are being ignored by the various underage managers?
Both players (along with Daniel Cleary and Alex O'Hanlon) played for the Liverpool U21s against Spurs recently: http://assets3.liverpoolfc.tv/fixtures2015/reserves/tottenham-v-liverpool-u21s-8439/last-match-report

They're not injured, they're playing regularly at a highly rated academy, and what's even stranger is I can't find any appearances for Kelleher since the summer, so what's going on??

No Masterson, or Whelan from Liverpool. Seriously, is there something going on that academy players from Liverpool are being ignored by the various underage managers?
Both players (along with Daniel Cleary and Alex O'Hanlon) played for the Liverpool U21s against Spurs recently: http://assets3.liverpoolfc.tv/fixtures2015/reserves/tottenham-v-liverpool-u21s-8439/last-match-report
Whelan and Masterson played against Wolves for the U18s last week: http://assets3.liverpoolfc.tv/fixtures2015/academy/liverpool-u18s-v-wolves-8464/last-match-report
They're not injured, they're playing regularly at a highly rated academy, and what's even stranger is I can't find any appearances for Kelleher since the summer, so what's going on??
I'd say the most likely explanation is Liverpool have asked for them not to be picked.

The kelleher one is strange he hasnt even been on the bench for the pools 18s even though he looked a fine keeper in last years euros the pool academy is crazy strong. Always a fear whelan is not fully commited to us. Masterson has looked sheer class for pool at 18s and when he has stepped up to the 21s . Best of luck be interesting to see how good the scots are

On the positive side, it's definitely promising that four Irish underage international teenagers are playing for the Liverpool U21s, especially with Masterson still only 17 (however we thought that about the Villa set-up a few years ago and that has yet to bear fruit for our senior team - although Derrick Williams is possibly within sight of the squad and Samir Carruthers is also playing fairly regularly in the Championship)
