According to the club's website, Mahony was born in Germany and joined from a local side. There would be a fair few Irish out that way alright.
Also incorporated into the preseason which Paul Mahony born in Germany July 31, 1994 and plays at left comes from Torrevieja CF
This English-language blog about Torrevieja mentions another Irish name at the club, Conor Heferman:

Beat gibraltar looks a very attacking line up - dreenan, roberts, grealsih george and mcevoy to come back in hopefully for qualifiers lots of attacking ability there

well deserved really think noel king is doing an excellent job. I think he sees the bigger picture that while his obvious role is to build competitive under 21 teams he also has to ensure we bring through players for the senior team and reward players who have shown loyalty to us when under pressure from other associations be that the brits or the north or even maybe the states to switch. i have been critical of doolin in the past for treating his 19s as his team with no consideration for ensuring players like duffy, mcginty and mceleney feel wanted for ireland even if he does not want them

Samir Carruther (Aston Villa)
Tricky 19-year-old playmaker who impressed during three first-team cameos for Villa - against Liverpool, Manchester United and West Brom - last season, but has yet to play under Paul Lambert. Made the news when he was fined £500 by Lambert for making a call while at Villa's training ground
Jack Grealish (Aston Villa)
A highly-touted 17-year-old, who has played regularly for Villa's Under-21 side and the Republic of Ireland's youth teams. Been at Villa since a six-year-old and generally plays on either flank, although he can play behind the striker.

will hayhjurst the preston winger who has played 20 odd games this season and has been a near ever present since christmas is in the 19s squad for the june qualifiers. That squad also should have wide players like mcevoy, george, garmston(who may play left full) and grealish. Will be interesting to see if grealish is picked. he was on standby last month for the 21s

Obviously we have been discussing the idiotic treatment of Grealish in his own thread but this is interesting squad. Will be extremely attacking squad as I can only see Gallagher been a typical central midfield type player with the likes of miele and sadlier been very much attacking players and mcevoy , hayhurst, garmston and evans wingers and maguire , byrne and tioflack strikers. Best of luck to them it looks strong

Just discovered that Sam Byrne of Man Utd is brother of Adam Byrne who is named in the Irish U20 team for the upcoming Rugby World Cup and has already made his full debut for Leinster. Some sporting family!

They seemed to up their game in the second half. Another reason to hate the Swiss. Gah.
Anyone know about your man Miele playing for us? German origin?
Serbia won 4-0 too.
Charlie Darwin
06/06/2013, 5:44 PM
No idea but I hear he hoovers up possession and keeps it on the floor.
Miele would be German you'd think. There's no Irish origin as far as I know. He is a decent signing after a couple of years on Football Manager.

An exceptionally attacking team only Gallagher in there as a holding midfielder with 2 attacking midfielders, 2 wingers and a striker great to see such attacking intent.
Irwin3
07/06/2013, 1:28 PM
Miele is most common in Italy, although it has several possible origins, one of which is Germanic. Miele is the Italian for honey. Also could mean 'son of Michael' from the Italian for Michael which is Michele.

We should be aiming for better than just being in contention, especially after blowing a 2 goal lead in the first game. How many teams qualify, just first place?

Just the first placers. With a small pool of players so it must be difficult to be competitive every season . hard for us when we missing the likes of roberts, wilkinson and drennan up top, Grealish and george as creative forces, lenihan from blackburn, dillon from hull and pepper at inverness as other centremid options and mcfadden, the o Reillys and hoban as centre back options.
That is nearly another squad of players that have played for us and are at english clubs the majority of which would expect to be first choice if available and which you could definately make a good side out of and Im sure there are others. I think we have had a bit of an injury nightmare unfortunately.

Good to see that we've a competitive team, especially with all of those lads missing.

Ended 0-0. Very disappointing considering we'd be through if we'd only defended the two-goal lead against the Swiss. We only had one shot in the entire second half and two in the game overall, so we were probably very lucky to even draw today.
