Impossible to know what's really going on there though.

No SvD, it's clearly, 100%, "just because" Stokes stormed down the tunnel four months ago. There can't possibly be any other explanation for Coyle's recent comments so just leave it at that. Stokes has been a model pro throughout his career bar that one blemish where, if anything, he simply cared too much.

That's completely beside the point Del.

Coyle knew who he was signing.

It's hardly a coincidence that he has been marginalised since that incident, despite hitting the ground running in his first few games.

Coyle's comment (that you quoted) suggests there's more to it than that.

I think he ain't good enough . He has had a lot of managers and for the vast majority he just has not been good enough . Sometimes you just ain't good enough .

If Stokes isn't fit enough or not training hard enough, why put him on the bench and bring on a defensive midfielder or a defender, when you are entrenched in a relegation battle, losing a game by the odd goal and need to rescue a point?

Why put him on the bench to begin with?

Is he that unfit that he can't come on and make some kind of impact for five or ten minutes in a game.

It raises eyebrows on both sides.

He was getting decent game time until he stormed down the tunnel in that one game.

And now it's fallen off a cliff.

Too busy settling his lawyer's fees to think about anything else I suspect. It is ironic (think I am using this in the right context but if not the irony police will be after me) that Elvis has a song called I WILL BE RELEASED https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Shall_Be_Released Perhaps the impersonator could sing that for him.

He should have been sent to prison for that IMO, but hey, this is the country where you can have 483 convictions and still not serve any time.

What makes it ambitious?

Blackburn would have to subsidise his wages and/or he would have to take a significant paycut.

Loan moves don't have to be subsidised, its not a law. We aren't party to the inner workings or the financial might of Jagiellonia Bialystok, they might be able to afford a team of Stokes.

'Footballer Anthony Stokes fined €230k for headbutting Elvis impersonator at Buck Whaleys': http://www.thejournal.ie/anthony-stokes-headbutting-elvis-impersonator-3243814-Feb2017/

IRISH INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALLER Anthony Stokes must pay €230,000 in damages to an Elvis Presley impersonator he headbutted and seriously injured in a Leeson Street nightclub.

A jury at the High Court, after deliberating for just over 90 minutes, unanimously found that the 28-year-old Blackburn Rovers footballer had assaulted 53-year-old Anthony Bradley.

The jury found that Bradley was entitled to general damages, aggravated damages, and damages to cover the cost of medical expenses already paid for by Bradley totalling €230,000 for the injuries he sustained.

Stokes must also pay Bradley’s legal costs.

Bradley sued Stokes seeking damages after he was headbutted by the player in the VIP Lounge at Buck Whaleys Nightclub, in Dublin’s Leeson Street on the early hours of 8 June 2013.

Almost equalised against Man Utd just now but Romero saved after he latched on to a rebound, and after a series of ricochets and flaps by the keeper Stokes put the ball into the empty net but was a long way offside by then. Lenihan started and has played quite well, a bit suspect for the winning goal when himself and his fellow defenders were caught with a long Pogba pass over the top. They were very open for the first goal too but would need to see it again before apportioning blame. Overall though, considering the gulf in class between the two teams, Blackburn were very compact and defended well. United win 2-1.

Middle of last year Stokes & his girlfriend came to a fundraiser in my local GAA club and could not have been nicer or more generous. He was pleasant and posed for pics almost all night and she was a delight, they don't deserve this kind of guff.

Stokes was apparently released by Blackburn earlier this summer with Hibs hoping to sign him for a third spell - given his successful history there, might be his best option: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/40765026

Himself and Lennon have a funny old relationship. Lennon appears to really get the best out of Stokes.

From a national team perspective, it will be hard to justify Stokes coming back into the fold. What does he have to do? Get more goals than Adam Rooney up there would be a start but Rooney has quite the record. Stokes all round play is obviously much superior.

I think it's Stokes relationship with Keane from their time at Sunderland that's keeping him out of the national side more than anything else. I've mentioned it before here, but if you read Keane's second book, he wasn't impressed worth the striker's attitude, and valued Murphy much higher as a player, despite not being as skillful

I think the fact that he has barely played in a year can't be overlooked either, and has not really performed at a decent level in even longer.

Even if he does well at Hibs, it's hard to see any real difference between him and someone like Adam Rooney who does well in the SPL too.

That's basically a re-hashing of my original point. He appears to be starting brightly. He might sustain it as he has done so at that level before.

Forgot the Keane point made by Tets but I think the fact that he has nothing at club level since they took over the Irish team might be the main issue.

I don't recall any of his performances for us except away to Germany (Noel King era) when he played well I thought, probably was at his peak as a player then.
