Excellent goal by Keane too. Typical that he's hitting one of his purple patches when Ireland's next competitive game is 5 months away. Expect him to have his usual slow start to the season when we will need him most.

leicester v norwich 1-2.
Logan was recalled for this one, with both other keepers fit and available as the new manager made some surprising changes to the 16, another one being the dropping of Maybury completely, who had actually done ok in recent games, as had Henderson, who Logan replaced. Yeates remains outside the frame.
Logan did fine on his return, was beaten by an Earnshaw penalty and an own goal from one of his CB's from a corner, he took all crosses well, and some under pressure but he handled them cleanly and at the first attempt. He also kicked well, with good distance, he did tend to overcook kicks onto the right chanel as he looked at it, putting too much on them and 3 or 4 carried right through to his opposite number, but on one occasion he took a back pass on the right hand side of his area, took a touch and kicked superbly right accross the field and onto the chest of his left winger, this was enough to draw widespread applause from a home crowd who arent in a very forgiving mood at present.
He made half a dozen or so stops in the game, including one for the cameras from a shot from distance, which he flew through the air for, as it headed for the top corner and which he palmed behind for a corner, he came twice and didnt claim in the whole game, once rushing out on Huckerby whose lob landed on the roof of the net and once when his defender panicked and kicked it blind downfield and left Logan chasing back to his unprotected net, luckily he wasnt punished on either occasion.
It will be interesting to see of he holds the spot for tuesdays visit of birmingham and for the remainder of the season.
For Norwich, no Doherty but Michael Spillane played in midfield, it was my first chance to have a look at this player, i had thought he was a CB but soccerbase and norwich OS have him down as a midfielder but the OS also says he plays equally well at the back.
He is a tall, rangey and athletic looking player, he wore a cast on his left arm from halfway along his arm to his knuckles and may have gotten his chance through a big injury problem at his club at present. He played the holding position. He took 6 minutes to touch the ball and even then it was just to show for it from a throw and give it straight back to the thrower, but on 9 mins he came off the keeper at a corner and filcked on accross the face of goal brilliantly.
He was good in the air, but usually in an offensive role from corners or from half-cleared throws, when he often headed well from his position outside the area back into the box, but if time allowed i noticed he was happy to bring it down and pick nice passes from these situations also, and had the ability to do so off either foot. He is a constrictive player in posession, looking for and generally finding passes which keep his side in posession and on the front foot when high up the park.
What he didnt do nearly enough of was the basic holding play, taking basic passes from fullbacks or midfielders and finding 10/15 yard balls to keep his side on the ball, he actually only attempted this twice in the match, and on the latter of these occasions, he gave it away cheaply on the edge of his area and was immediately subbed, i dont know if this was connected or not.
He had one goalbound effort blocked and produced one lovely raking diagonal ball over the opposing fullback which put his winger in and his side had a penalty appeal turned down as a result of this.He as subbed with 20 to play, after which his side scored 2 to win the game.
I liked the look of this player, very constructive on the ball, good in the air, made a few well timed tackles, etc, but didnt do enough basic stuff to play the deep middle role yesterday. My pennies are on him ending up as a footballing CB.
here he is: http://www.canaries.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Squad/SquadDetail/0,,10355~36101,00.html

I think anyone who knows or watches a few of city's reserve games can safely say that Garry Breen is not going to make it as a top level professional, and although this is about all Irish players, its almost a waste of time listing him, he's clearly never going to be up to it. As for Leon Best however....!

His mother's a dub. They should be asking him around this time where his allegiances truly lie as he seems to be fulfilling some of his early promise, he's got the lot trust me.

I wouldn't count him out just yet. He's still captaining the U-18 side so has time to improve.

The last mention I can find of him in an Ireland squad is the U-21 game against Sweden more than a year ago: http://www.rte.ie/pda/sport/2006/0220/1081353.html
There was a call up to an England underage side before that, but he was in at least 2 Irish squads since then
If it makes any difference, he's still listed as Irish in Football Manager 2007

leicester v birmingham 1-2
I didnt go to this one, but Logan played, as did Maybury, also forgotten man Sheehan making the bench with Yeates nowhere in sight, for birmingham, Doyle was in goal with Kelly at rightback.
according to bbc leicester, Logan had a poor game, was directly at fault for the first when he came and got stranded on a cross and left and easy finish for the opponents, and was also very lucky not to be the fault of another when he came when he shouldnt have, didnt claim, and the visitors really should have killed the game in the first half. his kicks were also too long, over and over, carrying through to the other keeper, which was particularly highlighted as he did it as leicester chased an unlikely, undeserved late equaliser.the bbc commentators seem to reckon he may not hold the spot after this.
Doyle, however recieved some compliments for his performance, was safe all evening with 2 key second half saves, Kelly also seemed to be holding his own.

Roar us on to a key win - Logan
By Andy Mann
Goalkeeper Conrad Logan today called on the Blue Army to play their part in the club's relegation battle.
Logan, who was recalled to the side for Nigel Worthington's first game in charge, hailed the support against Norwich.
Now the 21-year-old is calling for a repeat for tonight's crucial Championship clash against promotion-chasing Birmingham.
"I thought that the fans were great on Saturday," said Logan.
"It's magnificent as a player if the fans get behind you. We need that until the end of the season to help get us through."
Logan is in his sixth season at City after joining as a trainee from his home town of Ramelton in Donegal.
During his time at City he has seen the club experience two relegations from the Premiership and a top-flight promotion.
Now he is determined to play his part in ensuring City do not lose their proud record of having never played outside the top two divisions.
Logan said: "I have been here since Leicester were a Premiership side, went down and went back up. It's a massive club and it's a good club.
"It has a good fan base and an ambitious chairman who wants to get us back up to the Premiership.
"Hopefully, we will stay in this division and look towards the aims the chairman has set."
Logan added: "On a personal note I was happy to get back in there on Saturday but it's a team game and we were disappointed with the result. We have to go again. We have a chance again tonight to get three points and we have to do that.
"I thought we were good in the first half against Norwich. We faded a bit in the second half but, if we can keep going with that tempo, it will give us a chance

Alan O'Brien had 2 assists as Newcastle reserves beat Middlesbrough reserves 5-1.
With Duff out injured, and N'Zogbia out of favor, he could come into the reckoning for the final few games of the season.

I've been looking at google base lately - http://base.google.com/base - I had heard it hosted information free of charge. But I'm not sure if it's what we're looking for.
Maybe if the format was correct then it would be handy. Has anyone any experience with it?
Just to bring this topic back up but a Celtic forum (http://kerrydalestreet.co.uk) I use regularly set up a wetpaint (http://www.wetpaint.com/) site back in August. This is it:
http://kerrydalestreet.com/
I think that's exactly the type of thing we're looking for? If so we can open a new thread and see who'd be interested in helping to set it up.

Sounds ambitious, how long has the kerrydale site been running?
I was thinking of something slightly different, a database of player records (similar to soccerbase) but allowing for searching by users, for example if you wanted to know what Irish midfielder has scored the most in the last 5 games, or what goalkeeper has played the most minutes, outside of the premiership?
I was looking for an online database hosting site, but nothing suits. It might end up being a pipedream :(

It's pretty much what i do in work every day, so it wouldn't be too hard to set up a database and web site to do it, it's getting server space that's tough.

He'd be better staying where he is for the moment. Brimingham are likely to be in the Premiership next season and I'd only see him as second choice at Arsenal (even if Lehmann goes they'll get another higher profile keeper than Doyle).

On a side note is he any good? I seen him a few years ago and he looked a bit flakey. It's nice to see we have some strength in depth now with goalkeepers. I like the look of Supple at Ipswich. Looks a talent for a kid who's only 19.

I'd say its crap to be honest, but it's always nice to have players linked to good clubs, means they're doing well.
On that note has anyone seen Doyle play? What's his overall performance like?

He runs like a white Micheal Johnson!!!... Good alround player. Works hard. Uses the ball well. Decent in the air. He's never gonna turn a defender inside out though.
Has to contend with the difficult second season in the premiership now. Would like to see him and Robbie keane get more pitch time together. Hopefully they'll both do the summer Friendlies!!

Quite frankly, I'd be worried if Doyle went to Arsenal, the amount of players that have come through the youths/reserves there and gone on to be regulars in the first team is woeful, while players that have been brought in have become mainstays.
Just off the top of my head Stack, Cregg, O'Donnell, Bentley, Stokes, Barrett, Owusu-Abeyie, Volz, Upson, Sidwell, Bothroyd all got sold off despite being highly rated at Arsenal, or left because they couldn't force their way into the (admittedly outstanding) starting XI.
Doyle is doing well at Birmingham and has become first choice keeper despite his age, and IMO would be better off staying there and playing rather than moving and rotting on the bench or in the reserves

He has been doing very well for them alright, i remember when he was on loan at forest at he had ability then. Great to see our players being linked with top clubs, and it bodes well for Given's eventual retirement.

Played on against Watford, despite breaking his nose! Not quite Bert Trautmann, but impressive nonetheless!

just after reading quotes there on my phone on three mobile regarding colin doyle. Bruce say's he wouldn't stand in his way but would want Muamba and Bendtner in a swap deal...I think that was a tongue in cheek remark as he knows those two are highly regarded by Wenger. By all accounts Doyle was superb against Wolves today, a 90th min penalty save putting the icing on the cake. I rate Maik Taylor so Doyle deserves great credit for keeping him out of the team and given how important each game is for Brum at the moment this is really good big game experience for him.

Colin Doyle had a fantastic game aginst Wolves today. On this performance, he is the outstanding candidate to become Shay Givens successor. This could happen a lot sooner than most people, myself included, anticipated. Best young keeper I have seen in a long time.

I was watching the game too, Doyle really kept Birmingham in the game in the first half before they went ahead. A stunning point blank save from Keogh was the highlight, and Wolves must have gone in wondering how they were not ahead.
What was worrying was it was 2 similar goals that put Wolves ahead, crosses to the far post met by an on-rushing player to score.
I had a feeling he was going to save the penalty before it was struck, just something about his body language, the way he stood on the line, even if it was a poor penalty.
