ipswich v leicester 0-2

leicester end a 20 season hoodoo for this away fixture with Maybury holding his spot again of late at right back and Yeates starting again and crossing cleverly for the his sides second, he was again withdrawn with 10 to go.Logan was on the bench.

for the home side, theres considerable Irish interest with Garvan,Walters and Clarke all starting and O'Callaghan also coming on with Supple on the bench.
Garven got sent off for 2 yellows, the first one may have been harsh but the second one is reported as having been a 2 footed lunge.Walters is reported as having missed a presentable headed chance, ominously enough as his manager goes on to lament Lee being suspended, for this exact reason.

[QUOTE=eirebhoy;621261]McGeady set up Celtic's goal with an excellent cross. He mentions his crossing in his press conference saying Strachan has been working with him on it. Seems to have helped.

Apart from this he had a fairly poor game, getting shrugged off the ball on several occasions earlier on. Of course great to see it not affecting him with his skill for setting up the goal. People get on his back when they see him losing possession like that but I believe you need a player or two like him in your side, someone who can jink past an opponent and open things up with a little through ball. He would lose the ball a lot if he played more for Ireland, frustrating people, but I also think he would create more chances, which is where we usually struggle.

McCauley if from Northern Ireland, former Irish League player who after 2 impressive seasons at Lincoln City was signed on a free by Leicester last summer. He was a touch arsey when he was only on standby for a recent senoir squad for them.I rate him, very polished at times for a lower league C.B. and carries a goal threat from set plays. Now's his chance at Leicester to establish himself, with McCarthys shoulder busted.

leicester v coventry 3-0.

Logan on the bench with Yeates and Maybury in the 11 for leicester, McCarthy's seasons almost certainly over.I like the look of Yeates, skillfull, tricky and entertaining to watch, he provided a good outlet ball all day for his defenders and deliverd a handfull of crosses off either foot as well, some of them causing real problems but early on he delivered very poorly from 2 or 3 dead ball situations.id like to see more end product to his work though, but he is a young player so it may come. he did provide one moment of sheer brilliance when he was under a high dropping ball at the back edge of the penalty area, and with his first touch with his right he left 2 chasing defenders on the floor and then struck a fierce low drive with his second touch with his left which brought a fine save.

over all he is giving a good first impression,he looks very good when he drifts in from the line and gets involved in the build up play, comfortable with it and clever in his passing, i would like to see a little more end product and a touch less show offy type stuff late on when players had run hard to get up in support only to be ignored by him when trying to do to much, he got a good reception when subbed with 10 to go.

Maybury had a good game, defended solidly and overlapped Yeates with good timing and speed on a few occasions, the crosses didnt match the runs though.

for coventry, Tabb played in a midfield role and as a player ive liked the look of in u21 games and during his time at brentford i was looking forward to watching him play, and despite trying to create and being good in posession under pressure, nothing was really coming off for him, his side were 3-0 down after half an hour anyway. he did make some clever late runs but was never found.

at the back for them was Hawkins, and i suppose its not easy for a cb to look good while getting pounded 3-0 but he stuck at it and semed to be a talker, always organising and shouting instructions, on the ground he impressed me, he was composed and picked out good passes at times when other players may have lumped it. he didnt look out of place generally to me but ultimately the tall cf Horsfield, who he was picking up, came away with 2 goals and a motm award.

Thornton is out for the season, injured and Doyle wasnt on show, i believe he was involved in a serious training ground 'incident'.

Celtic had 56% possession but Milan were clearly a class apart. It was the best I've seen them in a long time.

O'Dea did well to keep a clean sheet and Boruc only had 1 proper save to make all game. McGeady was marked by Oddo and Gattuso. He didn't have a bad game but he just didn't take on the full back. All his passes were short, nothing special, but I guess Strachan is still coaching him.

I was more impressed by McGeady than in previous Celtic Euro matches. He did seem to be in 2 minds when he had the ball as to whether to try to beat the next man or pas it infield. Never seemed to ahve any players running into the box to pass to.

Paddy McCarthy on the injury which has ended his season

Sidelined McCarthy 'frustrated' by training injury

By Bill Anderson

Leicester City captain Paddy McCarthy has spoken of his frustration after being forced to miss the rest of the season with a dislocated shoulder.

McCarthy underwent an operation last week on the injury he sustained in a training ground accident.

The City skipper said his disappointment was compounded by picking up the injury in training.

"We made the decision that surgery was the best thing for my injury," said 23-year-old McCarthy.

"My season is finished at the moment. It's very frustrating.

"It came out of the blue. I fell awkwardly and my shoulder popped out. To do it in training in a 'nothing' accident was very frustrating. We saw a number of surgeons for different opinions. They all came back with the same answer that the sensible thing was to have surgery."

McCarthy, who admits to being a poor spectator, added: "This is my first long-term injury. I am not usually good at sitting out games.

"I have to put my trust in the physios. Hopefully they can get me back as quickly as possible."

McCarthy, who picked up the injury before the 1-1 draw with Luton, said recent results had created a real "buzz" at the club.

City have gone on to beat Ipswich, Coventry and Burnley, and the Irishman admits that City are well served in his centre-half position.

"We have got a lot of options and players who can come in," said McCarthy.

"Gareth McAuley and Patrick Kisnorbo have done really well and we have Darren Kenton, Nisse Johansson and Richard Stearman who can play there. We have a lot of cover.

"I will be in and around the training ground and to the games, supporting the lads.

"They have been doing really well over the last couple of weeks and there's a really good buzz around the place."

Yeah I watched the match too. He made one run to the edge of the box beating a couple of players and it was the first time I've seen the old Duff in a long time. When you look at him now you wonder was he ever actually that good but that run refreshed my memory. He changed the direction of the ball and completely fooled his opponent.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of it is down to confidence. The fans are getting on his back. He still demanded the ball plenty of times though, it's like he's trying to fight it. :) He had a poor game overall but Martins was worse imo. Everyone had a bad game.
