Wasn't sure where to put this (probably not here but God knows it barely merits a mention, never mind a thread of it's own!):

The Irish Independent, Saturday 31st July > Weekend Magazine's TV Listings

Best Sports Show
MSN
RTE Two, 7.00pm
The affable Con Murphy (right) and his guests Damien Richardson, Paul Doolin and Colm Foley discuss the latest action from the Airtricity League for the four or five viewers out there who are likely to care one way or the other. A sad state of affairs, really.

Not Errortel but the Paper of Record:
Irish Times had Sligo's penalty on Sat night for a foul tackle - it was a handball.
Previous round they had our goalscorer as Philly Hughes when it was Karl Bermingham (and every other news outlet - even errortel- had it right)

Extra time last night said that Danny North took the penalty for Pat's when everyone there clearly saw Damian Lynch take it, see it saved, and rush in to meet the rebound and score

Not only do we have the Airtricity League website splashpage trying to knock out international tickets, I came across this looking at the run ins.
http://inform.fai.ie/Statsportal/CompetitionDetails.aspx?compID=1
Round 35, poor old Shamrock Rovers, bilocation needed while Sligo have a night off. Perhaps the model club has in some way found a way to bend space and time to help them out, must have been since they needed a league fixture off in July that they discovered it.

Is there any reason Spurs are top of this group other than that they are English.
http://www.rte.ie/aertel/239-01.html

I went on there to check something that had been on the soccer homepage advertising spurs v young boys.
It had been there up until last week.

this can be seen as really funny or very unprofessional. does anyone have any contacts in RTE ? even the tea lady.... I presume ...sorry I'm sure that all aertel and internet pages are done by the same person and there is no proof reading done. ''sligo rangers'' is not a spelling mistake (dorgheda a simple typing error but NO PROFF READING WHICH IS REALLY CRAP ON THEIR BEHALF) and it's very difficult to imagine the conversation in the office. the person is either typing something from notes...badly written....or making it up or unbelievably absent minded..... ........seriously I think we can find the answer if anyone has any vague contacts in RTE. We all know who does what (and generally how things are done in our respective companies) so we could put this to bed ....or at least know the story of how these incredible ''mistakes'' are happening.
any inside contacts?

I agree, a lack of proff reading is a serious problem.

Thought this was appropriate to post here; RTÉ's preview of this weekend's English (and Welsh) League Cup final: http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/english-cup/2013/0222/369122-preview-captial-one-cup-final/

Swansea and Bradford are gearing themselves up for one of the most unlikely domestic cup finals in living memory.

DannyInvincible

Ha, I see they've now deleted the word "domestic" from the review subsequent to me commenting on it.

only four weeks into the season

That is bad, but is it only online or can it be seen in the broadcast text too?

In fairness I don't see the point of tables before this point of the season where teams have play 4/5/6 games. So can, sort of, understand why it may not have been updated properly.

The league in general seem to be getting better coverage, online at least, this year. And while the above example is bad, rte are no longer the only offenders. I've noticed some factual inaccuracies in other places too

Ones that stick out are bbc - reporting ton he setanta cup - had Pat's playing in Tallaght, and (Shamrock) Rovers playing in the Showgrounds. (think they had a similar thing last year too with loi venues)

A preview of the season had Derry retaining Stephen McLaughlin.

There's also been a few on extratime, but can't recall of the top of my head.

What are we to do about these? Quietly email the editors with our pedantry, or start a thread here calling them all out?

Its so weird they spell Pats' name in full, then call the Rovers teams "R" and "Rvrs" and don't even add the last letter for Bohs.

Good news for Pats. Shams didn't beat them in the league earlier on this season.....

Setanta Cup semi-final first legs
Shamrock Rovers v Cork City, Tallaght Stadium, 7.30pm
Up until last Friday night Shamrock Rovers only victories this season had come in the Setanta Sports Cup but they finally broke their duck in the Airtricity League with a 7-0 win over Bray (http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/irish-soccer-league/2013/0412/381177-rovers-smash-seven-past-bray-in-tallaght/) Wanderers that will give them plenty of confidence going into the first leg of their semi-final against Cork City.
Both sides are former winners and both have beaten Irish League opposition to reach the last four.
Rovers accounted for Coleraine and Linfield while Cork City saw off Danske Bank Premiership winners Cliftonville and Crusaders.
David Elebert and Tommy Stewart both remain out of the Hoops squad through illness while Conor Winn has a thigh injury which has ruled him out of the tie.
Cork’s Darren Dennehy returns from suspension but Kevin Murray and Dan Murray are both definitely out and Neal Horgan is a doubt with a knee injury.
Danny Murphy (knee) should be available but Shane Duggan (dead leg) is a major doubt as is Colin Healy (knee) while Gearóid Morrissey is suspended.

Slack marking from a national broadcaster last night with the sports bulletin on Today FM, which we heard twice in the car on the way back, and which presumably was repeated several more times overnight.
"...Elsewhere there were wins for Cork City, Sligo Rovers and Waterford United."
Normally I wouldn't be bothered flagging these up, but this one was funny as it conjured up an image of some stringer filing the report four minutes into injury time and then sodding off home!

Sean Maguire put Cork 5-0 up against Finn Harps tonight with an 89th-minute penalty, but LiveScore incorrectly have Ryan Delaney down as the scorer:

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc12/poguemahone85/Capture_zpsck9lq0ch.png

Oddly, RTÉ appear to have copied the error:

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc12/poguemahone85/Capture_zps06fh53ip.png

Don't RTÉ have reporters/contacts in the ground? Do they actually just copy updates from LiveScore?

Here's the correction attempt:

Worst of all, they had already reported the goal as scored by Maguire in their text updates:

They're really having a good go of it tonight at RTE

https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2017/0505/872871-cork-city-finn-harps/

Fergal Harkin gave away the penalty for Harps tonight. Is it any wonder we were beat 5-0 when we're calling back retired legends to play for us?
