3140 for The Presidents Cup tonight which was quite decent when you look back at the predicted attendances on the Presidents Cup thread.
I wasn't at it but hearing from mates that the 140 in the figure were prob Dundalk fans.

Particularly since the President was lollygagging in Cuba with his communist mates!

No, seriously, great attendance. Really hope this become a regular fixture in the coming years.

Disappointing 1,845 in Finn Park. Decent crowd of Cork fans, maybe around 50 or 60 up?

Given circumstances though, an evening with Roy Keane in Letterkenny that sold out 1,000 tickets at the same time, and the atrocious weather, it could have been worse.

The Jodi was packed tonight with F&G at more that full capacity. Very surprised at that figure. Would have said easily 2500-2750.

What's the safe capacity of the Jodi? If it was overfilled then they'd be silly to quote the actual figure.

Most of the real hardcore not attending home games at the minute due to boycott. From what I hear crowd split 50/50 which is a great turnout from Waterford considering the distance.

Also as for both teams being in the news while Waterford made an official statement Athlone Town have still to make a statement on what's happening. So it's all rumours at minute.

Hearing as well the 3 French lads that were announced on the French website going to the club now apparently not being signed.

Encouraging Premier Div opening game attendances there. Do we have figures from previous years to compare ?

Particularly impressive for Galway and Limerick given the teams they were playing. I'd say Limerick will see a lot of those back again.

Actual attendance at our game was 2800 and something. Ran out of tickets. I was in a q that paid cash on the gate and I was fifteen minutes late.

Amazing attendance considering the chaps were playing a bulmers shield game in thomond at the same time.

Good to see 50 plus Drogheda fans down at Galway the other night. Felt to me that there was more than the official figure there; my ST did not get scanned for example as it was not working in one of the turnstiles. Good promotion done by the club for the fixture, pity about the result on the night.

I think it is a given at this stage that season tickets are included in the attendances, doesnt make sense not to as a sold ticket whether the owner actually turns up of not. Not a major thing really in what was by and large and decent opening weekend for attendances. As we know from past seasons that keeping the levels of an opening weekend sustained through out the season is one of the challanges. There will be no shortage of key fixtures at both ends of the table throughout. It is a real shame that an extra one or two clubs in the first division wont be able to maximise interest with play-off slots.

nigel-harps1954
28/02/2017, 9:05 AM
There's no point comparing this past weekends attendances with last seasons first week. Will compare, however, the first and second week combined with last seasons to give a fairer reflection of how different the attendance figures are compared to last season.

I'd say there's no great difference really. Extratime compared everyones attendances in their article with clubs averages from last season which I thought was a bit ridiculous as opening week attendances are almost always higher for clubs anyway.

Indeed. But there would be in comparing them to a number of previous seasons opening day's fixtures.

I suspect a chunk of those who go to the first game of the season do so out of hope. If their club has a crap opening, they'd be less inclined to go to their next home fixture. I'd be stunned if Sligo's attendance this weekend isn't impacted by the tanking they got at Limerick last weekend, for example.

How much does the away end in Sligo hold?

We seem to be bringing bus load after bus load. 2 bus companies booked out of buses already (not including the muja/scumbags who use a Newry company, as Dundalk companys wont take them)

Very good attendance in Tallaght at over 5k.

Cork lads, were you expecting more than 3.3k? Usually your first home league match is a bumper crowd, its still a decent turn out given the day that it was, assume it was spilling down there most of the day too?

patrickccfc
03/03/2017, 10:29 PM
Yeah I would've expected more, but it was pelting down all day until around 4. Probably turned quite a few away, but still happy with the turnout and the win of course

Honestly expected 2500 at most given the weather. Very healthy attendance given the circumstances. Billy Barry telling the county that the game was definitely off around lunch time can't have helped. Not many down from Galway either - 20? 30 maybe.

Very good attendance. It looked less on TV but that was probably because people packed to the upper sections due to the weather.

I took some photos of the east stand and it was crammed in the middle around the singing section with people standing in the aisles and in front of the seats, a bit more thinly populated at the Mountain end but if all sat it was at capacity or very close, not sure about 5,200, maybe 500 less. I really do think that if we had won in Dundalk and the weather had been decent we would have had the 6K. 10,000 people saw Rovers in the space of 8 days hints that there is a market for a well attended league in this country The club has being going about its business very professionally off the pitch in the 12 months which will have long term and lasting dividends attendance wise. One comparison worth looking at is the A league in Aus, it seems to have taken off and when you think that they have done this competing against Aussie Rules (the equivalent of us competing against the GAA), The Sydney derby is now one of the biggest sporting fixtures in the country and is only going less than 10 years i think. Well worth a look on you tube.

Yeah that's what happened alright. Lots of people moved to the East stand or to the area just in front of the windows at the back of the main stand to avoid the rain making it look like less than it really was on tv. The middle of the east stand was packed so I'd say that was at capacity. All tickets were scanned coming in so I'd say figures given were accurate.

Bray are the only ones left to give any official attendance for the first two weeks.
