Wow - things really *are* bad when even POS isn't going.
ha, couldn't actually make this one first one in a long time. but I've been to akbuferia and villamoura a few times before and I don't like it, plus had a bit of an incident there that really put me off going back so don't mind missing it. plus I'm not overly gone on these ones who attend these kinda games.

I'm trying to explain to my UK born 9 y/o that Ireland under M O'Neill playing away in Faro is totally different to another Ireland under M O'Neill playing in Faroes.

There was some trouble in Albufeira last night actually: http://www.balls.ie/football/some-shocking-stories-irish-football-fans-albufeira/307440
http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc12/poguemahone85/ire_zpsx1krowrt.png
The police came up to move fans. They were grabbing women and throwing them, they started pushing everyone. I saw one lad who was pushed and he fell and he just missed a pole. Then all went quiet for about 10 minutes.
Something must have happened up the road because the police just charged at everyone. We put our hands up to say we didn’t want any trouble. I got a baton into the leg, another friend was hit in the waist and another in the arm. I fell and got hit on the back. I ran and a cop chased me down the road and cracked me on the back of the legs again. I went down with my hands on my head and an Irish guy came and dragged me away.
We were literally just standing there talking. We didn’t even have our voices left to sing before the police attacked. It was extremely heavy handed stuff.

The best we can hope for here is a goal or two in the first half to take the sting out of things followed by a low key coast to victory. Hard to get excited when precisely the the thing you are hoping for is no excitement.

There was someone (possibly on here) who booked flights to Faro when we played the Faroes.
I wonder has anyone booked flights to the Faroes for this one?

OK - has anyone who's supposed to be going to Faro gone to the Faroes?!
Looking for a link to this game if possible please? Apparently the only game I can't watch on regular tv this afternoon.

Coleman and Wilson rested, presumably to protect them from yellow cards. McCarthy and Hendrick played in spite of minor knocks.

I wonder what we'll line up like. There's no obvious wingers there. I'm wondering if it's two up top with Hoolahan in the hole or Hoolahan to the left and Walters to the right of Keane?

My take is Hoolahan behind Keane and Walters, with Brady and Christie playing more like wing backs.

They'll be tough but they tired badly tonight and hopefully we can use the ball more than Scotland did and wear them down.

Yeah, cos that's how we do it at the Aviva, total possession football that leaves the opposition chasing shadows. Tippy Tappy O'Neill, the purist's choice :)

As long as we don't let them have it and try and play on the counter, I'll be happy.
So a frustrating Monday it is.

Yeah. Plus they are a bunch of lads coming off a landmark result, who are getting on a plane tomorrow to a city famous around the world for being a great place for a party
We should really roll out the welcome mat for these lads. Get the champagne flowing in Coppers tomorrow night. Let Ms Salpa explain that her name is Georgia as well and introduce them to a few of her friends. Get them tickets for Croker on Sunday, invite them back to the winners hotel after the game.

He claimed his hamstring felt a bit tight in training. Obviously, that Martinez put him up to it.

Disappointing to start playing well, then we just revert to type.
It's as if we get bored when we actually have to move the ball for a sustained period of time. Decent opening 15 or so minutes, then we just hoof to the wings and let them have the ball.

Poland & Germany are far better than us and attack minded coaches....we have O'Neill and a man who couldnt hack it at managerial level

turgid stuff made worse by a poor quality stream... was watching GERvPOL at the same time on the telly - bad news is Germany looked fantastic, worse news is Poland were pretty great too.

Hard to take much from that. Christie was lively and Walters absolutely ran himself into the ground. Actually not sure why he was left on the pitch. That scuffed effort towards the end was surely attributable to fatigue.
Did anyone notice that Wes's final ball was pretty shocking tonight? I know he was trying more risky passes etc. but they tended to be well off. Not sure how that bodes for his selection chances Monday.
Also noted in the pre-match interview that O'Neill asserted Coleman would have started but for a tight hamstring. I'm taking from that that he picked his best side there. Attacking options ignored (they'll change for every game), that could imply that Clark is ahead of Wilson in the pecking order.

Well it is all to play for, both Scotland and Ireland have to play Poland and Germany so all level there.
However Scotland have a game v Gibraltar so that is 3 points in the bag.
We play Georgia, no guarantee of 3 point there or indeed 1, however we need 3 really.
If we get 3 and we both get slaughtered by Poland and Germany all is well and good, 3rd place for us.
However we probably won't both get slaughtered as from the first two games v the 'big boys' (or should I say jumbo sausages?)
we got 2 points and Scotland got one.
So it is still a bit of a coin flip.
However Scotland are 300-1 to win the Euros but we are 400-1 so maybe Scotland favoured to qualify?
