Great game last night at Finn park and decent atmosphere harps were on top for the 120 minutes came agonisingly close on a few occasions, fair play to Longford in getting through on the lottery that is penalties hope they do well in it and have a decent league campaign, we move on to a much more important game in Athlone on Friday.

our record for penos under Tony Cousins tenure is excellent. last time we lost a peno shootout was against Sporting Fingal in the Leinster Senior Cup in his first game in charge of us in 2010!

Anyone know when the draw is on?

Pity Harps went out as a tie pitching them against Sheriff could have settled who the dirtiest team is once and for all.

Jeez, Galway finally get through a few games without a sending off and now we get jokes about discipline.

Next Bray will be telling people how to spend grant money while Drogheda and Bohs issue a joint presentation on playing the property market.

An FAI official in the ground said "If you were a neutral coming into the ground tonight, you'd have trouble picking out who were the Premier Division side".

Changed that for you, An FAI official in the ground said "If you were a neutral coming into the ground tonight, on a Bank Holiday Monday, in this type on weather, you'd have trouble convincing anyone you were sane"

Well Cobh Ramblers have now been knocked out of the FAI Cup, the League Cup and the Munster Senior Cup by non-league teams. Is this a record for a LOI team???

Anyone know?

Don't know about that, but do know that another record that's gone is that we've never been knocked out of the FAI Cup by a non-league team before.

I think there's one or two others left, but can't think of who offhand (bar the obvious like Cabinteely). Any takers?

I'll have a quick check at that to see if I see something.

Also, the last 2nd round game has just finished, Avondale United 0-3 Cobh Wanderers

Wanderers stay in the cup longer than Ramblers. I hope we draw them.

Right had a look at the League Cup shock wins if you like, it is a bit confusing on how you would define knocked out, as non league have beaten league teams in group stages, would that count? Anyway here is the list.

Non league victories in the group stage:
1976/77, Cobh Ramblers beat Waterford, Kilkenny beat Cork Celtic, Galway Rovers beat Finn Harps.
1982/83, Cobh Ramblers beat Waterford United.
1983/84, Cobh Ramblers beat Waterford United.
1987/88, Fanad United beat Sligo Rovers, Fanad United beat Derry City, Bluebell United beat St. Patrick's Athletic
1990/91, Fanad United beat Sligo Rovers.
1991/92, Salthill Devon beat Galway United.
1992/93, Fanad United beat Finn Harps.
2003, Kerry League beat Cobh Ramblers.

Non league victories in a knockout tie:
1987/88, Fanad United knocked out Galway United in the Quarter-Finals
1999/00, Rockmount knocked out Cobh Ramblers in the 1st Round, Rockmount knocked out Cork City in the 2nd Round, Rockmount knocked out Waterford United in the Quarter-Finals.
2008, Kerry League knocked out Waterford United in the 1st Round.
2009, FC Carlow knocked out Cobh Ramblers in the 1st Round.
2010, Letterkenny Rovers knocked out Mervue United in the 1st Round.
2011, Cockhill Celtic knocked out Galway United in the 1st Round.
2015, Crumlin United knocked out Bray Wanderers in the 1st Round.

Lost in a group game
Waterford/Waterford United
Cork Celtic
Finn Harps
Sligo Rovers
Derry City
St. Patrick's Athletic
Galway United
Cobh Ramblers

Lost a knockout tie
Galway United
Cobh Ramblers

Pretty poor form from the FAI. But I'm sure they really care.

Cockhill Celtic away, I'd imagine that game will take place on the Sunday? Some people saying it could be moved to Harps ground or the Brandwell though?

if they move it, I would have though Maginn Park in Buncrana which is 1 mile from their own ground would be their first choice. It has a super surface and can handle decent crowds. Derry use it a lot for Under 19 and it hosted the U19 final this year.

Draw

Cockhill Celtic v Longford Town
Tolka Rovers v Killester United
Galway United v Dundalk
Derry City v Drogheda United
Sheriff YC v Athlone Town
Bohemians v Bray Wanderers
Cobh Wanderers v Sligo Rovers
Cork City v St Patrick’s Athletic

Galway away is a bit of a bollx draw for us,Galway are difficult as we have seen recently.Tie of the Round is Cork v Pats. One non league side will be through regardless,Sligom could be the side to step-stone to the final although i'm sure Cobh will have something to say about that. But you can see it now

Aye, they'll use Maginn Park, no chance of it being in Derry or Ballybofey. Nice wee ground, and right behind the Main Street in Buncrana. I'd guess the match will be on the Saturday afternoon, as the Sunday could possibly see Donegal playing in the SFC semi-final.
Would likely take a run down myself if it isn't the Friday night too.

I'd say a lot of teams will be getting hopeful in the cup this year. Athlone or ourselves could get to the semi-finals by just playing non-league sides as it stands.

The level of confidence I have in the FAI - when Cobh Wanderers were drawn and they said from the Munster Senior League I had to double check that it wasnt Ramblers....

Nuisance of a draw away to Galway but avoiding another battle with Cork and Pats at least. You know your club must be doing well when there are a load of ooohs and ahhs when your team is drawn!

There hasn't been much of a battle between Pats and Dundalk this season when we played, steamrolled us in the 2 league games, at least we took the lead in the Presidents Cup match I suppose..

if that is the case I am finishing work that day at 8am in Dublin. Not sure if I would make it in time.. Where would be the closest bus stop Letterkenny or Derry?

Derry is probably closer but equally awkward to get to from Buncrana on public transport. 5 hour bus trip from Dublin though Marty, best to find someone willing to drive it as I'd never rely on public transport in Donegal
