I'd say close to 4000, the Shed didn't look as packed as normal. There were seats free in the DF and the St.Annes End wasn't greatly packed either.

Yeah the Shed was a lot less packed than usual but I thought there was a good few in the St. Annes end and that the DF and Derrynane were fairly full. I'd still say at least 4500 but that's just a total estimate.

best away support in the Cross this year by the way, well done Pats

Strange as it may seem, i dont think SPA had the best away support at the Cross this year. I reckon Sh€ls had alot better. Certainly more colourful, and defo noisier, and shaded it numbers wise. Basically they brought all of their fans.

As for the other night, Id say 4000-4500. It was strange, becasue at 7.40 there was about 1750 max.

These are actually an increase on last years gates mainly as we have sold over 1,000 adult and Junior season tickets. The cash take at our gates is as high if not higher than last year.

The 1st Division is a wasteland the crowd in Kilkenny last saturday was no more than 150 which was probably double the crowd at last years fixture and almost half were from Galway.

The pitch was immaculate in Buckley Park and the weather was scorching yet no atmosphere. Its marketing the league needs and good publicity both with the sham the FAI have made of the UEFA Licencing the league will struggle to attract new investors or fans.

About 250 at Athlone v. UCD.

Fairly low attendance at Harps-Kilkenny - about 650, going by previous games, though that's a complete guesstimate with no groundings other than previous figures.

Who wants to see Dublin City ? Indeed !
Call me naive but I thought it was the idea to go to games to support YOUR team and hopefully see them win the game and gain the 3 points or qualify for the next round of the Cup as the case may be.

The opposition, their appeal or indeed , lack of same should be very much a secondary consideration.

but forgive me I have only been supporting my team for more than 20 years so what would I know about it?

Who wants to see Dublin City ? Indeed !

Before I get shot down, i realise i'm taking this quote completely out of context, just feel like I have to defend our position.

Dublin City are a club which are in existance three years. Despite what some people believe Dublin City is not Home Farm or any of its incarnations. Clubs need tradition and history, we don't have that, but we are trying to get there.

We have a small band of supporters, and we are trying to grow that, we are starting an Official Supporters Club, with the help of the club, but which will be completely seperate from the club (obviously).

As for our on the field development, we have not been getting the run of the luck in games. Some games we have been the worse side, Shels x 2. Pats Away, Cork Away, Drogheda Away and Derry Home are all examples of this, but everyother game we have deserved something from.

* Drogheda stole a point five minutes into injury time the other night,
* Derry got a dodgy penalty decision two minutes into the game, still managed to completely dominate the second half, and deserved at least a point.
* Pats at home, we completely outplayed them, and only a deflected shot beat Robbie Horgan.
* Longford home, only a screamer from Dessie Baker seperated the sides, in a game which the Vikings dominated.
* Waterford Away, dominated only to lose
* Rovers Away, we were the better side, just couldn't score.
* Cork at home, we well worth a share of the spoils, just couldn't equalise.

And we deservedly beat Waterford and Bohemians. And anyone who was at either of those games will find it hard to point out the relegation fodder and the title challengers.

I personally think the League table is a poor reflection on the abilities of the sides in the league, Drogheda are not one of the top sides in the league, and i think they will suffer in the latter end of the season.

Also going on the above games, we have dropped 14 collectable points, they would put us into fourth place, considering taking points of other sides, behind Shels, Bohs and Cork.

I understand that we are currently three points of the pace at the bottom of the table, but I believe that we are good enough to get out of this mess. We have learned a lot from the opening series and a half of the premier division, and we can string a couple of good results together, to get ourselves out of the mire.

I think we will still be looking at a dog fight to avoid relegation, possibly going to the last game or two of the season. but we can stay up.

BobtheDrog
15/06/2004, 5:23 PM
stole a point we shud have been 3 up at half time, not to mention the fact that we rested players and had molloy, reilly and quinless 3 out of 4 first choice midfielders we were also playing a striker on the wing and a centre back in midfield. we have this season proved we are getting more and more capable of beating the top sides and hopefully with the new signings that will be made we can maintian our form and get a european spot, but i agree dublin city are not a bad side they have several good players however its hard to see u staying up
