I could see the goal coming from where that free kick was positioned, Everton should have
defended much deeper, packed the goal line. Lampard could have scored direct or as it
happened someone just needed to get a touch on it. They shouild have had players
ready to run out towards the ball, not in onto it, where it's so easy to put it in your
own net. It was a goal begging to happen. I'd agree the Irish has good games,
McCarthy having a good game, I thought he might have done better when he had a shot
though.

That game was so mucky. I know its beating a dead horse but they really need to do something about the diving and flopping. It is so ridiculous that it fools the Officials so easily. Chelsea players look like a bunch of ballerinas on ice.

Coleman: Me still believe Everton can make top 4. Me can smell Champions League.

McCarthy best of the batch today in my opinion. Kept the ball relentlessly and broke up West Ham breaks on many occasions. Think he's a crowd favourite too, lots of applause for his contributions.
Coleman had a quieter game but as solid as ever - I think Deolofeu frustrates him and hogs the ball when Coleman's broken his boll!x to overlap into space.
McGeady came on and played well, some very good deliveries, albeit didn't create anything clear cut.

Spanish moron with ideas above his station in frustrating teammates because he thinks he's Xavi shocker.
He's a great talent/prospect in fairness. Just an arrogant, selfish so and so too! Coleman on at least one occasion got visibly fed up with him.

You can use a lot of adjectives to describe Spanish footballers but modesty is not one of them. You had Owen Garvan left out of Palace's 25 man squad in August for people like Jose Campana and look how that turned out. Useless attitude and a distraction in the dressing room. And you wonder why Garvan was annoyed.

McCarthy slip leads to an Arsenal goal. 1-0 Arsenal in FA Cup.

1-1 after a turbo charged run and low cross by Barkley and a calm finish from close range by Lukaku. Barkley very impressive.

It's been a great half of football. Not much to report from an Irish fans perspective.

Just watching the half-time analysis and Coleman is also at fault for the Arsenal goal for marauding out of position.
So it's been a mediocre week for Coleman and McCarthy so far but they can both come out of it smelling like roses depending on circumstances over the next hour.

I don't smell no roses.

McCarthy played fairly well really, he was unlucky for the first goal. He does some great work defensively but it would be great if he could blend in a bit more of the play-making stuff at times. Everton had enough off the ball on Saturday for him to have been more influential. Coleman is going through a mediocre spell after the dizzy heights. Hopefully he can finish the season well.

McGeady starts today, as well as Coleman and McCarthy.
Charlie Darwin
25/03/2014, 9:06 PM
Coleman and McCarthy started and McGeady was an unused sub as Everton turned over Newcastle at St James's Park. Everton are now clear of Spurs in fifth and if they win their game in hand they're within three points of Arsenal in fourth.

At home, should be a very interesting game. They got a bit lucky at the Emirates.

Mcgeady an unused sub?did geysir not say he would establish himself around now once he got fit?
Queue the spin doctoring of sorts.
3 goals scored and no mcgeady....

It's one game, Paul, postpone the victory dance. Everton fans and Martinez have both been very positive about his contribution so far. I'd say a lot of it has to do with the fact he's still working towards full match fitness (his pre-season started in January) and can't play three games in a week. There's no sense bringing him on when you're 3-0 up if he needs the recovery time.
paul_oshea
25/03/2014, 9:57 PM
Its the perfect time!it doesn't matter what he does but giving him time to build his fitness as the game is already won!
Charlie Darwin

You have to let players rest. He hasn't had a proper break in almost 18 months, he'll be stuffed by the summer and he needs to be managed for the crucial fixtures coming up.

McGeady has been great overall since he moved. The manager loves him and the fans (yknow, the ones who actually go to the games ;) ) are raving now too. As CD kind of said, we'll be able to properly judge whether he's the real premiership deal next season. Or we can simply delay the inevitable and bow to the all-knowing Paul O'racle now........ :D

Who's "they"? And which game at The Emirates?

Are you any bit torn Stutts?
Charlie Darwin

They would be Everton, the subject of the conversation. I'm obviously referring to the league game, the one they didn't get hammered in.
DeLorean
26/03/2014, 1:45 PM
No need to be such a smart arse. You could have been referring to Arsenal getting lucky, seeing as Everton were lauded for their performance that day, granted Giroud hit the bar late on. And seeing as I didn't know if you were referring to Arsenal or Everton, then it was very possible it could have been the FA Cup match you were talking about, which was far more recent and had a fairly flattering scoreline in the end.

Stuttgart88
26/03/2014, 9:34 PM
Nope. Look, when I was 8 there were no football replica kits but when I turned my anorak inside out it had a red body with white sleeves. At the same time in my life Brady, Stapleton, O'Leary, Devine and the 3 northies and Terry Neill were all at Arsenal. For the last 36 years my weekend sanity has largely depended on how they have done. And before I get accused of being a barstooler the only things that have come close are Ireland (way more important, not even on the same planet), Rovers (sometimes more important, sometimes less), UCD (in a cute kind of way) and Celtic (those hoops are magical, even though they're the same as Rovers). When I was a kid in my back garden I'd kick a ball against a wall, try and save the rebound and imagine Johnny Giles and Ray Treacy were watching from next door.
At the same time, losing the FA Cup Final to Ipswich was one of my worst ever childhood moments, being tied to a tree and left in the Castle Golf Club by my mate's older brother (subsequently jailed) being about the only thing that came close.
So if Everton overtake Arsenal I'll definitely see a silver lining, but the dark cloud will be what I see first.
I woke up at 5 am this morning thinking about Flamini's late OG. Then 12 hours later I read about our U17s conceding a late winner to Serbia. I wonder wtf I even like football. Get it?

Yeah, scandalous really. I presume the majority of regulars just get season tickets every year and treat it as one of those things you just have to pay, like motor tax or whatever!

No one else will, thats an interesting story, was he jailed for tying you to a tree, or what happened next - in your life or his possibly?
This seeing a lot of TOWK in you has taken on even greater meaning now.

Stuttgart, that is nothing.
When I was staying in Brooklyn, I was walking home at about 4am and my roommate got his black friend to pretend to rob me at knifepoint. He put a blade up against my neck - to the point where it drew blood - and made me give him my wallet.
He runs around the block and then a couple of minutes later I get a phonecall and they are laughing down the phone at me.
On the negative side I wet myself (although that may be because I was drunk and have a weak bladder), on the positive side I got my wallet back.
I was wondering why the guy didn't take my phone...

Were you more scared because he was black?

CD, try your rationalisation when its happening to you with a PR or a black lad and see if you ask yourself the same question.
Maybe a bit naive to post something like that on a MB, but the emphasis on his colour shouldn't be reason to mock faux-pas racism if he genuinely found himself more anxious.
At the end of the day certain areas are more populated my certain races/nationalities/whatever if you found yourself in Queens at 4am and ran into a Paddy you would be less worried than in Brooklyn running into a "spic" or an African American probably solely based on stories you had heard or things you had read.

No, I think you were trying to mock him because he preceded to identify his level of anxiety by prepending the word "black" to "friend".
Indulge me then, why did you ask him if he were more scared because the guy was black? Unless you are racist or unless you are trying to point out that he is racist or some such other silly jib I cant see what the point in asking him that question was.
