Yeah, he missed Liverpool for the same reason. I'm surprised you didn't pick up on Martinez calling him British though, clearly trying to turn his head back to declaring for Scotland :)

Really don't know what McCarthy was actually booked for, other than hanging around the scene of the crime. Ivanovic looked like a right gurrier, and he's normally one of the few Chelsea players I'd have a bit of time for.

on the radio they said he was booked for mouthing off at the ref. match reports seem to focus on whether or not ivanovic headbutted/bit him - didn't see a reason for the booking mentioned.

I nearly brought it up, but thought I better give it a bit of time before posting to cool off!

Gibson replaced Barkley on 74 minutes in Everton's 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tonight. Coleman played the full 90 minute and was booked. No sign of McGeady in the squad at all; Lennon started and was replaced by Miralles on 74 minutes.

McCarthy also came off the bench at half-time to replace Bešić and was later the recipient of a booking (and some sort of weird head-thrust/possible bite combo to the back from Ivanović (http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/branislav-ivanovic-did-the-chelsea-defender-try-to-bite-evertons-james-mccarthy-10040115.html)).

Martinez is saying that if the bruise doesn't heal in time, he'll have to miss the Poland game.Has Suarez turned Ivanovic into a football vampire.

martinez will have to manage mcgeady fitness and only play him the odd 15 mins out of 90 when he recovers...

mcgeady has had very little impact since arriving in Liverpool, between small injuries and form and ability

DeLorean

His all round game has been pretty decent, but he lacks that genuine goal threat that the likes of Mirallas have, a vital component for Fantasy Football merchants in particular.

McGeady has no consistency whatsover. At this stage of his career he should have it. Overall an average player imo.

And normally you're so upbeat about our Everton contingent.

Coleman and McCarthy start away to Young Boys, Gibson on bench. No McGeady, but not unexpected given comments above about injury (or mediocrity).

Young lad Courtney Duffus also on the bench. 19 year old forward, younger brother also at Everton. I believe they're eligible for 4 countries.

1-0 down to the young boys, if they can't beat them the first team will hammer them.

Coleman puts Everton 2-1 up. His first goal since he scored against Aston Villa in October.

He only just got that, nearly did himself an injury getting there!

Great to see Coleman get that goal. Hopefully it will help him to push on to have a better season than he has had so far.

Was McGeady injured V Leicester or just not getting his game with Lennon there?

Charlie Darwin
23/02/2015, 1:15 AM
Injured:

“Aiden is out for the weekend, he is recovering really well but he had a really strong bone bruising and it is coming off well, he is starting to do some work individually he hasn’t joined the group yet and probably won’t for another couple of weeks until the whole situation clears up properly.”

That's from a national newspaper by the way, in case you can't quite believe a massive run-on sentence like that was actually published by somebody who knew what they were doing.

Heard the last few minutes on Newstalk yesterday and Kevin Kilbane was saying Coleman had a good game going forward. Good to hear. Roberto mentioned tiredness a few times and also mentioned ten men behind the ball as well a few times.

Coleman has been a bit quiet but McCarthy is playing very well, apart from their goal.

Agree very slow to react for the goal regardless of who should have been marking the player! A good win for Everton and a great chance for them to go through now.

A game too soon for McGeady as he doesn't make the squad. Gibson drops to the bench as McCarthy and Coleman start.

I'm probably biased but i am amazed they retained Alcaraz as back up and released Duffy. Duffy is better at any level of football. Alcaraz costing them again tonight.

Charlie Darwin
19/03/2015, 5:44 PM
Alcaraz cost lots of money and Duffy had a big offer made so I guess they decided one was expendable and the other had to be justified. He is a poor player though, I'd have Duffy every time.

Pity. Was hoping an extended run in Europe for Everton would redeem what has been a rank season all round from an Irish perspective. Ah well.

the same Bundesliga clubs that wanted to sign David Forde.

Charlie Darwin
19/03/2015, 7:15 PM
There probably aren't many teams with the money to buy him, but there are plenty of clubs in Europe from England and abroad who would be very much improved by him. He could easily stay at Everton too.

That's an O'Shea cover all angles type of answer, Charlie.:)
As we know, Wenger hates anything Irish, so that leaves Liverpool or Man U. Do any of those clubs desperately need to bolster their "Irishness" their green credentials?
But somehow I can't see Everton getting so excited by the GBP20m transfer fee that was mooted last january, Seamus would have to want to leave.

Charlie Darwin
19/03/2015, 8:09 PM
Well Manchester United are playing a bad defender and a winger at full back because their actual right back is useless and always injured, so they might have a need.

he will surely look to leave after the season everton have had if bigger clubs come calling. i don't think anyone would begrudge him if he / his agent handles it professionally.

Not such a great manager after all. I read a quote from a Wigan fan.the cup is long forgotten all that's remembered is the bitter taste of relegation.

I can't understand him saying specifically in the media that he couldn't change his formation or style to play more defensive. They had taken a lead to bring away from home you should most definitely.

well at least James will be well rested for the Poland game and no excuses......oh wait.

I think Martinez is the ideal international manager.

Charlie Darwin
19/03/2015, 11:09 PM
Jesus, Wigan fans can hardly blame him for relegation. They're a club that operated far above their reasonable capabilities for years on the back of Dave Whelan's personal investment, and now they're returning to mean because he's taken his money out. Winning the FA Cup is the best thing Wigan will possibly ever achieve as a club.
