So you mean he was fit for the Southampton game last week? Or before international break?
He was in the travelling squad for Kiev and QPR but wasn't selected.

Just saw the penalty now. Classic "I've been pushed so I'm going to grab the ball" but silly in the circumstances. Still, I think it was a clear push in the back.

Still think it's a bit presumptuous to assume it wasn't his fitness levels that kept him out. I remember Martinez saying that away leg in Kiev was a realistic target for him, therefore touch and go. The QPR game was only a couple of days later. He looked well short of fitness against Poland a week after that I thought.

Out of favour back on the bench today as Coleman and McCarthy start at home to Burnley. Stephen Ward is back on the bench for Burnley.

Yea Coleman was too quick for him, McCarthy 'won' a yellow card too IIRC, think it might have been against the same guy?

DeLorean
19/04/2015, 8:50 AM
Yeah his first yellow was for a lunge on McCarthy. Don't think he made contact but ref booked him for the intent or dangerousness of the tackle. I haven't seen it yet but that's what I read. McCarthy's cross set up the winner too. He seems to be contributing more in an attacking sense recently.

Was he on the right then? I think I say that on a stream though it was Coleman who crossed as first but then I saw the no 23 more centrally.
Hard to tell who is who on streams at times.

Just saw it on MOTD. Completely totally and utterly not a penalty. Of course if one had an agenda one could argue otherwise.

Good cross from McGeady. Move started by Coleman.

Has McGeady ever been out this long before?

I know this is more of a world football issue but it seems fairly deserted over there these times. I suppose I can pass it off as the ambitions of Everton F.C. being crucial to a few of our important players. Anyway, I found it any interesting read (https://www.grandoldteam.com/2015/08/27/martinez-has-been-brave-and-bold-in-fighting-evertons-corner-hes-a-credit-to-the-club/) is all!

Cascarino slams McGeady.

Former Ireland striker Tony Cascarino believes it is "disgraceful" that Everton (http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/all-about/everton-fc) winger Aiden McGeady has not nailed down a regular place in the Irish national team alongside clubmates Seamus Coleman and James McCarthy.

And the former Celtic and Aston Villa forward has said that the 29-year-old needs to "act to turn it around."
McGeady has started one match for the Toffees this season - and was hauled off at half-time against Barnsley.
Cascarino rapped: "McGeady is one of football’s enigmas.
"He has so much talent, yet he has not been a regular starter for a team since his Celtic days, before his 2010 move to Spartak Moscow. He has had a bad time with injuries, but even still, the 29-year-old hasn’t even nailed down a first-team berth for Ireland, which is disgraceful considering how much talent he has."
"I’m sure he has made a shed-load of money but in every other respect his career has been a waste of talent. His game is nosediving and he needs to act to turn it around."

McGeady joined Celtic from Queen's Park at the age of just 15 and made his way up through the ranks at Celtic Park before he became a first-team star.
With 37 goals and a whopping 83 assists in 252 games for Celtic, McGeady was regularly linked with a move to the Premier League.
Instead, he made the shock decision to join Russian side Spartak Moscow in August 2010.
He joined Everton from Spartak in January 2014, but he has been a bit-part player ever since.
And the stellar performances of Gerard Deulofeu this season and the signing of Aaron Lennon in the summer mean that his chances have become ever more limited.

DeLorean
04/12/2015, 12:58 PM
Wasn't he a regular starter for Spartak, before he fell out with Karpin? They're the only other club he's played for "since his Celtic days". He had absolutely nailed down a regular starting place for us before he fell (completely) out of favour at Everton. Other than that he's just stating the obvious really.

A player that never really improved from the level he was at 8/9 years ago. Was it lack of effort or is it that he was unable(unlikely) to improve.

If premiership clubs had believed he was good enough back in the day they would have come in for him. Its not like they were short of the kind of money that he would have cost. Martinez must be disappointed with McGeady. I certainly would be if I signed a player and he has performed as McGeady has.

In his day as Celtic Manager, Strachan had silky Nakamura, dribbly wingers Maloney and McGeady, front men big JVH, Zurawski / McDonald all at his disposal and still managed with negative tactics and team selections to make Celtic play almost universally despised, turgid football. What Delia wouldn't give to have just one, a McGeady, albeit in an unknown condition, at his disposal.
Considering the Celtic's board, self destructive cost cutting history, there would be no chance of McGeady going there if his salary was not subsided the way the 2 Keanes were.

Neither were in the squad tonight anyway, himself or Gibson. Coleman went off injured late on too when Everton had all their subs used, didn't look very serious though but hard to know. Besic was the best player on the pitch, Mac might be looking for a loan move too :p

Possibly good news for Gibson too, if he plays today, he's cup tied, so reduces his availability for any potential moves. If Martinez is playing him today, maybe he's in his plans for the future?

Still unlikely to budge those ahead of him though and game time likely to be limited. Hopefully they'll get another good cup run though that he can be involved in if he stays.

Coleman came on for Everton in their 2-1 defeat to Swansea. He missed two very good chances, one an absolute sitter actually with the last kick of the game. Besic went off injured very early so they could really do with McCarthy back for their semi final on Wednesday, Cleverley just doesn't cut it. McCarthy wasn't even in today's squad though.

Poor Seamie. Gutted for him. Two great chances on his return. Everton have to be one of the most frustrating teams to follow - thrown away so many wins this season. Poison at the back and, in fairness, I criticized Coleman a little a few weeks back - they were as bad defensively without him during that spell.

Charlie Darwin

"As bad" is charitable. Swansea spent the whole game targeting Oviedo and Stones and it won them the game.

I think Jagielka and McCarthy are huge losses from a defensive point of view. Jagielka can be suspect at times but he's their organiser and leader. McCarthy adds a bit of everything to that midfield, organisation, positional sense, pace and aggression.

I saw it live. At least next time he's in that situation he ought to remember it and keep it down.

If he had kept it down it might have been blocked by Fabianski, but that'd have been a better outcome.
