I reckon its just gonna be the 7 teams this year. What a shambles if it is.

Has to be a minimum of 8 teams per UEFA rules, or so I'm told.

I have my doubts about whether the clubs would go ahead with a seven-team league. If the FAI can't come up with somebody, we might see a few teams dropping into junior football rather than go bust.

The Gibraltar league increased when the joined UEFA for that reason.

Though this bit (https://footballgibraltar.wordpress.com/2013/06/07/premier-division-to-expand-to-eight-teams-for-201314-season/) here on it says it's for Premier Divisions only. And also, that the minimum number is 7.

I'm presuming it's correct, but maybe it's not.

Waterford threaten to pull out every year, but I'd have thought Wexford would be more likely, possibly Cobh too.

Hearing strong rumours today that Cabinteely FC is a runner and they're sorting out some licensing details before an announcement is made.

That applies just to the first tier.

They don't have any players, I can see that being a bit of a snag.

If we get a team together it could be cheaper to give up home advantage if say 20% of gate receipts were available. The team could train in the Phoenix Park with Roddy the manager, so mostly Dublin based squad. Could it be done on 80-100k per season? Anyone know of a good fundraiser? maybe the guy who ran Dublin City. It is really important for the league to have 8 teams in division 1.

Not as much a joke as having 7 teams in the Division.

Hard to see them making a go of it with Bray and eh... UCD in the same catchment area but it's good to see some clubs with ambition.

I think it really shows that in the League of Ireland office there really is nothing going on - there's no plan of expanding the league or preparing clubs to join League of Ireland - Tralee have finally gained promotion back to the Premier A in Kerry after having left the league to attempt joining LoI - I can't see them rushing back after the way they were treated.

I imagine it involved as much foresight as the decision to upgrade the Holy Stone of Clonrichert to a class 2 relic.

Off topic, but do many remember when there was 2 Limerick teams in the league. It was the time Pat Grace was involved, Billy Hamilton was manager of his team and they played in yellow/green strip. However there was another Limerick for a while and if I recall right they played a game against Bohs at least. The players were a bit shy of having their picture taken and they suffered a heavy defeat at Dalymount.

Anyone know if they played another match? (don't think they played at home, but maybe wrong)
Anyone with info/sources of info on this club; thanks

Cabinteely were in talks to use TEK Utd's ground last year for senior matches, so maybe not as far fetched as you'd think that they'd be joining FD, but you'd imagine that something would have been announced before now.

Newcastle United joined the LOI in 1985, they changed their name to Newcastlewest the following season. They left after the 89/90 season.

They finished 8th, 7th, 9th, 6th and 9th in their five seasons

The other "main" Limerick team has seen many guises.
1937 to 1978/79 Limerick
1987/80 to 1982/83 Limerick United
1983/84 to 1991/92 Limerick City
1992/93 to 2006 Limerick
2007-2009 Limerick 37
2010-now Limerick

You can argue how many of them are the same or different clubs...

This Limerick team only lasted a few weeks. The Pat Grace team were not allowed to play at the start of the season, so had to do catch-up and did get close to Derry, but Derry defeated them at a big game at Rathbane in spring. Ring any bells?
Remember there were no floodlights in most grounds at the time.

Hope some team comes into 1st division as 7 is way too small. Could the FAI not pay some club for few season to make up the numbers as things are getting to be a joke now.

Hamilton was appointed manager in 1987, so that tallies a little with Newcastle West

There was a dispute over Limerick City and Limerick Utd for a short while in 80s

Edit. Info off Wikipedia. It was 1982/83 season and the league went eight weeks with an odd number of teams as there was a high Court battle over who owned Limerick soccer club. Pat Grace won the case but had to make up missed fixtures. Apart from Bohs not sure if the loosing club played any other game.

Brilliant idea. I can't understand why Shamrock Rovers weren't already offered this option.

Perhaps an online live reverse auction would be the way to go

The court case was about about which team was registered to play in the league. The league accepted Limerick City as the team registered but the high court stated that Limerick United should have been the team registered instead, even though the League stated that United never actually registered. They were definitely 2 different clubs.

If Rovers signed a 2 or 3 year contract for the B team license then are they not liable for the League or other clubs to seek compensation?

Longfordian

I doubt they signed any kind of binding commitment for more than one year. Just a promise no doubt.

IT Carlow ruled themselves out already. Supposedly they want a year to prepare themselves and will be going for League membership in 2016.

Fixtures apparently end of the first or start of second week in February.

They have used TEK Utd grounds in Deansgrange in past for big games so I prusme its where they will play their home games, it seem a decent ground as it had an attandance of 2,500 at Man Utd leagends game just before christmas

I keep forgetting we're not in the First Division any more, for this year anyway. I have to remind myself that our fixtures are already out. I'm not trying to be smug here it's like being let out of jail after seven years. I'm institutionalised!
