I really thought we weren't as bad as people made out in the second, except in the last 15 minutes when the fatigue was so obvious.

Trap will get rightly slaughtered for that. Made the wrong subs and waited too long to do them anyway.

Absolute sickener...lost my link in injury time and then heard the commentary only from Hamilton and Whelan as their goal was scored. Can't believe it.

Im normally on the fence but that was the worst display of management i think i've ever seen. To take off Long instead of Sammon was simply insane...and to bring Green on (which i agree with) but then put walters up front instead of putting 5 in MF...just ****ing bizarre. Utterly gut it. Time to go Trap...whatever about squad choices and formation, can't even ****ing manage during the matches

Can see Walters struggling to get back when Alaba got the ball in space. Centre midfielders were nowhere too.

Connor Sammon left on for the full 90.

Paul Green put on for Shane Long.

Didn't even waste some time by throwing on a sub during injury time.

Leaving Wes on the bench when we needed to keep the ball.

Combine that & we ain't going to Brazil now.

I thought we played really well again. They were more mobile than Sweden but I really fancy us to beat them away. Just keep playing like the last two games and we can still qualify.

Bunch of clowns.

Time to get rid of the ringmaster.

A blind man could see that substitions were needed long before Green came on. Why was Sammon on for so long? Ach, just disgusted that we've thrown it all away again.

As we're not going to qualify now I think it's right if Trap steps down so we can look to the future.

I was fine with that, since Long seemed to be losing his temper a bit, but on the wing? That wasn't where the problem was.

Hyperbolic tripe. Granted, I'm biased (but would still have started either Hoolahan or Doyle), but off the top of my head, you've got -

6-0 down against Germany
The Euro 2012 let-down
Henry's handball
San Marino's late equaliser
Ireland's late equaliser against Cyprus
5-2 in Cyprus
Sitting back on the 2-0 lead against Israel and blowing it
Saipan
0-0 v Liechtenstein
Chris Woods' rugby tackle somehow not being the penalty to send us to Euro 92
Any time John Delaney opens his mouth.

All far, far more disappointing than a Championship forward starting for Ireland.

Sammon playing a full 90 mins in a crucial World Cup Qualifier . . . . . newest lowest point of Irish soccer in my living memory

More comedy management from Trap. The game was there to be won. Austria were on the ropes from a combination of our agressive play and our quick and fluid counter attacks. So what do we resort to for the last 40 minutes? Sitting back and playing hoofball trying desperately to hang onto our lead. And when everyone in the world and their dog realised that our team and tactics needed to be shaken up around the 60 minute mark or we were going to concede a goal what does Trap do? Nothing.

Pay him off and let's move on. Hopefully the FAI won't replace him with another Stan and we'll be okay.

I actually thought Trap got it right for most of the match. Sammon was fine. Yes he's limited, but he did his job reasonably well. Trap lost it in the last 15-20 minutes.

Some of the worst management I've ever seen. Leaving on Sammon and taking off Long was incredible. An under 10s manager could have seen in 2nd half we needed someone to get on the ball.

This is not the end of the world yet, SWE and Austria still have to play twice, (2 draws are obviously possible) SWE has to go to KAZ, we get SWE and KAZ at home and maybe we can muck up a point in Germany.

To be honest based on Trap's record we'd be more likely to qualify if all our remaining games were played away

To take Long off was 100% the right choice. He was losing his head, as he does in those situations, and if he was left on the field, he would almost certainly have been sent off.

Sammon is a poor excuse for a footballer. Leaving him on for the 90 was mind-boggling when Kevin Doyle was sitting on the bench. Even the Wes brigade might have had a bit of justification for his calls too.

We sat off them in the second half. It killed us. When they started pegging the ball around and getting at us, we needed to push up the field and put the pressure on them, a counter attack was wide open so, so many times, yet we sat back with 10 men behind the ball and let them come right back at us.

It was utterly useless, stone age tactics.

Trap simply has to go. It's beyond a joke at this stage.

Can't say Austria didn't deserve their point, even if it was the last kick of the game. They tried to play football.

Dead right. Long had lost a bit of composure, the way he got the yellow was evidence of that.

Sick. F#cking sick. How many chances did they have on target? Should of had at least 4 pts from this double header instead as usual we bottle it, tactics shocking as usual. 10 minutes to go and he brings on green. f#ck off. doyle on the bench, hoolahan on the bench. Sammon worked his ****** off but was **** - lets be honest, rarely controled the ball or did anything creative, he was there as a roadblock basically. Cant wait for this sh1t to end. Put kelly in charge to the end of campaign and then get someone who believes in irish players and playing f#cking football.

Decent 1st half but let them have far to much in the 2nd half and Austria deserved the point. Can't afford to lose another game now and will have to get at least 13 of the 15 points remaining.

Some questionable subs by Trap again, why take Long off and keep Sammon on? Why not put hoolahan on to run at Austria who know what could of happened.

Sweden will be very happy with that result

When you put it like that. No. We still can't seem to get over the line against sides of a similar standard. The Swedes will be happy tonight.

Dunno how relevant it's going to be really, but Austria are currently the lowest-ranked of the second seeds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(UEFA)#Ranking_o f_second-placed_teams), so as it stands, it's our group that's going to miss out on a play-off spot.

(At the moment, that table is missing Austria's defeat against Germany)

True that, can't blame McCarthy though. What's he supposed to do? Pass the ball to himself? He can't run the entire midfield by himself. At Wigan he plays in a functioning system.

Massive setback, almost feels as bad as Macedonia in 99, but only ourselves to blame. After going a goal down we really got at them and it was obvious that while they are good technical footballers they were a pile of **** at the back. I thought we'd try and stay a bit more positive in the 2nd half but we sat back waiting for the inevitable. You might get away with it sometimes against teams like Armenia and so forth but if you keep sitting back eventually it comes back to haunt you. The substitutions or lack thereof were disappointing. Sammon was so bad he was useful for 60 minutes or so because Austria didn't know what to do with him. However, he needed to be called ashore at that stage. After winning the free kick in the corner on 90 minutes we made a serious hash of it when we could have at least run down the clock by a minute. We got away with home draws against Bulgaria, Slovakia etc. because they were so poor but Sweden are seasoned qualifiers and this result will give Austria hope so this result imo is fatal to our hopes.

Can't believe how we got stuffed, they had men over in the middle queueing up to take a shot.
Had we been caught on the break, unbelievable so late in the game.
Green should have been in the middle, at about the spot where they scored from,
Seems like our player had no legs left on them because they never had the ball in the second half.
Trap had a sub left as far as I am aware, so why not use it to get some more fresh legs on
the pitch?

They had no clue for most of the second half. It was no different to being managed by the Gaffer.

It's a financial consideration for the FAI now. There are more and more empty seats with every passing match. Trap says it is the result, not the show that counts. When it comes to selling tickets, that doesn't seem to be the case. And the FAI may well decide that they are losing so much money on tickets that they may as well cut their losses as far as Trap is concerned.

How many will show up for the Faroes and Kazakhstan at home if this stodge carries on?

How much would Brian McDermott cost us?
