Ya 2 Quilligans signed with NCW along with a good few others. A lot of quality players to try and keep happy. May not gel and can see a few switching in Jan. On a separate note its great to see Carrig back in the premier. Possibly the best supported team in the league.

Hey, can anyone tell me whats the story with division 3 fixtures? I see theres fixtures out for all other divisions this weekend including 4 but not 3?

Notaclue
22/08/2012, 6:29 PM
The master fixture list is in today's Weekly Observer. The 3rd division starts on September 2nd. Ferry are home to Knockaderry that day. The reason for the later start would be that there are only 7 teams in the division whereas there are 10 in division 2 and 8 in division 4. have ye any new players this year, or are ye still playing second fiddle to Gaa?

People looking for mileage would want to realise that they are involved in junior soccer. If they were any good they wouldnt be playing in front of 2 men and their dogs looking for expenses

doubt rathkeale will beat broadford friday. i actually heard today they considering giving a walkover.
i do expect ballingarry, ncw, glin and shannonside to win their games. Gone from the desmond league myself for a while now but like to still follow it as much as i can are Rathkeale really gone that bad, years ago they were a great team. is it reall all one way traffic with ncw and broadford heading them out.

Ok cool. No dont think there are any new players, a few new young lads alright but I havent played with them for years so Im not too sure of the set up myself. Still a long way behind the gaa im afraid. There was something like 20 players for the friendly against Killeaney last week but a lot of those were players more committed to gaa so cant see them turning up all year. Shane Enright (Kerry footballer from Tarbert) is playing with Glin Rovers until Christmas this year alright though as far as I know. Hes going travelling however so dont think he will be around for many games.

Rathkeale will not be giving anybody a walkover this season,it will be a struggle until the gaa is finished but after that should be ok.
The gaa has taken over in recent years with the hurlers & footballers winning county titles.
I wouldn't rule out shannonside, very good manager this season from what I've heard.
Strange the players leaving NCW Rovers, they had a decent side at the end of last season staying up comfortably in the end.
Shannonside to win it with broadford & NCW for 2nd.
Killeaney & any of the others by the sounds of it to be relegated.
Best of luck to everyone involved for the season ahead.

Think league is between broadford & Newcastle with Newcastle to edge it, the loss of power and o Donnelly has to effect shannonside, think rovers and killeaney to go down, doubt if any players getting paid in Desmond league, clubs can hardly pay ref costs, a lot of clubs in financial trouble, think its serous when on opening day of youth league 2 teams can't field teams and others getting hammered!!

Gearysfan
24/08/2012, 8:24 AM
There is no players been paid in Desmond league. If they are it's a joke. Fuel expenses are been met but you can't disagree with that. The prices are gone sky high and lads can't afford to travel. Clubs have to help in some way

nowayref
24/08/2012, 10:52 AM
I can understand how certain players who want to play but cant afford it get travel expenses (ie Students) but there has to be a line. It annoys that some players wish to profit while others are travelling down from dublin every weekend just to play with their local team and the lads they grew up. Its the players who sacrifice and have a genuine passion for the game are the ones that should be paid but never look for a penny.

I have to agree with footy247 i think it will be between NCW and Broadford for the league. NCW have signed and re-signed some very good players so you would have to make them favourites. Shannonside with losing those 2 players and from what i've heard not gaining any will do well to finish behind these 2. Strange that those payers left shannonside after a very successful season last year. It will be an interesting game sunday between NCW and Shannonside with former players and managers up against each other. We will know more about what shape Rathkeale and Abbey are in also after the weekend games.

Was at the first half of broadford ratkeale game and 2nd half of abbey ncw game. wat i saw broadford totally dominated the game and cant believe ratkeale took the 3 points but fair play to them, its a massive win for them,it was same story at the abbey game, how they did not get a result i just dont know.they totally dominated the 2nd half an their striker missed a absolute sitter after 10 mins, ncw looked totally unfit near the end. Tomorrows games are big ones for all these four teams now. just another small point to make, it was great that abbey can play under lights an give us a chance to take games in.the more the better as there was a fine crowd there.

southern kid completely true i was there myself. broadford did control the first half but really only created 2 chance's. Ratheale on the other hand completely dominated the second and could have scored 3 more goals only for the broadford goalkeeper. he made at least one fantastic point blank save. broadford shouldnt worry though as they lost the first game also last season and after that had a great one

As i said last wk the youths league is a joke with last few yrs an u can be sure their will be more teams pulling out especially in div 2. they wont keep taking hammerings. does anyone have suggestions how to fix problems bcos at the end of day if u dont have youth in a few seasons juniors will suffer.

I said on here 2 seasons ago that the league needed to look at youths soccer because the league would suffer at junior level in the long run with the way it was going.I think the way forward is to change youths to Sunday,I understand that smaller junior clubs may need their youth players to play junior but it will benefit everyone long term Im sure! With the age now a year younger than before this should be less the case anyway, it's hard to knock young fellas working on a Saturday instead of playing and again Sunday might make these players available.

Watched the Newcastle vs Shannonside match yesterday. Very entertaining game played at a high tempo. Newcastle took a deserved lead at 2-1 mid way through the first half but then just before the break when shannonside were getting on top they gave away a crazy goal when their keeper took a free in newcastles half and keith power blasted what looked like a clearance into the shannonside net from his own box with kavanagh scrambling back. To shannonsides credit they came out in the second half and totally dominated newcastle. They got 1 goal back midway through the second half and piled on the pressure for the rest of the half but couldnt get the equalizer. Finished 3-2 with shannonside deserving at least a draw from the game but newcastle have 2 wins from 2 now and getting the bit of luck needed if they are to win the league back. Long way to go but they have an early advantage.
Scorers for newcastle Dan power, doherty, Keith power. For Shannonside moroney, doody.
Rathkeale have had a great start to the season and could surprise a few nutjobs who were tipping them for relegation. Always have too much quality to go down.
