Right lads would like to get yer opinion on what happened bridge united 19's team today. Last Sunday as with every sunday the fixtures were released and the Bridge were down to play Avenue away at 11 o'clock in Lee's road. Both the local press printed it as it was so one would conclude that would be going ahead because thats the norm in the clare league every week. NOT SO.....
......The bridge turned up this morning togged off and warmed-up only to be told be the ref that Avenue were playing Corofin 19's. After doing more enquiring the bridge found out that the ref was told thurs/fri that the fixture was changed and corrofin also got a message that they were playing Avenue (having orginially been down to play Ennis town away at 11) No person from the Bridge was contacted saying that the fixture was changed and again after making a few phone calls the bridge were told that one of their players requested to the league that match be off. Never heard the likes of this procedure happen before, always thought the management would have to contact the club secretary and the secretary would contact the league for a fixture change (and be lucky to get it at such short notice). Would like to make the point that the Bridge were missing no players for this match and that Avenue ( went on to win the match) start the game against Corrofin with 10 players. I dont know bout ye but what happened today suited Avenue down to the ground and a complete injustice to the bridge!!! Why cudnt the 10 players of Avenue play the Bridge.....? Something seriously wrong went down behind the scenes during the week!
fixture is on clare league website as avenue v corofin !! must have been changed at last moment ,, your club secetary must contact league and ask why nobody advised you of game being switched and ask for the name of your player who asked for game to be called off !!!!!! , as far as i am aware clare league must contact your secetary / chairman to advise if game is being switched , called off etc, looks like a big favour has been done here to avenue and i would hope that ye make enough protests to clare league or even munster council if no joy of the clare league.. why was ref at match if he knew game was switched ..

shannon parade usually starts at 2-3pm so should not be a problem getting back from ennis on time for it.... !i i'm sure if all olympics concerned fathers asked their club to ask for a free weekend for paddys weekend club would have requested it.

what happened to the bridge today is nothing short of a disgrace, but the problem here is that nothing will be done about it, underhand tactics to keep there beloved avenue on top, we couldnt have the likes of bridge united winning the league now could we?? but will leydon be held accountable?? i think not. surely the mighty avenue wouldnt be afraid of a few hurlers from the bridge would they??
last season in the youths, the league decided that all teams would play each other 3 times instead of the norm of home and away fixtures, this was convieniently introduced after the bridge beat avenue away and drew with them at home, so that they could have a 3rd bite of the cherry, excuse the pun...
Please get your facts right before you come on to a forum or website stirring crap
I didn't see any wild celebrations the day bridge and avenue drew in bridge to suggest ye knew different to us that league was 3 rounds (u must be getting mixed up with the bridge win in lees rd and the celebrations of horn blowing at start of season)

Avenue contacted during week by Denis Hynes saying Clare u16 needed 3 bridge utd players would we have problem if game pulled
Answer no problem do whatever you have to do (ya the anti avenue and the let's shoot down the Clare league brigade are rubbing their hands .........they knew avenue were missing players)
Lyndon rang avenue wanting to give them game as we are playing national cups for next 3 weeks, he was told no problem that they would play a game ( even though avenue knew 6 players gone for Clare minors) avenue told that they would have game at 11 avenue didn't know against who
Avenue rang told they are playing corofin at 11
subsequently Clare u16 game off bridge and corofin turn up for game yes avenue had only 10 players for first 20 mins but were on the field waiting for either team warming up
Corofin were adamant they were playing and pa Gleason ref was told corofin avenue stayed out of it we were on pitch warming up
Bridge actually offered corofin money to let them play the game
and I've never seen 3 hurlers play against avenue in soccer I'm sure that's against the rules, but sure if it was avenue wanting to play 3 hurlers the Clare league would surely accommodate us

So basically what your implying is that the Clare 16's ( a schoolboys league team) contacted Avenue 19's to have the game pulled?? Even though earlier on in the week the bridge 19's refused the Clare 16's of this request and the players in question also said that they would be unavailable for the clare 16's as they were playing for the bridge 19's!!! So why did the Clare 16's then go to Avenue to seek the game off even the Bridge players were not going playing for clare? Why were Avenue allowed play Saturday and the Bridge werent? Why is a Schoolboy team able to have pull and get a JUNIOR league game called off? And to top it all off i am of the understanding the Clare 16's didnt play Saturday in the end and actually knew friday morning that they were not going to be playing.

I'd say they were trying to keep everyone happy but it didnt work out that way. but it wouldnt matter what they did I'm sure someone would find a problem with it.
Do u honestly think Lyndon has better things to be doing with his time than ringing around Thursday and Friday sorting out games
I'm sure he'd have been happy with original fixture
The more worrying point is they refused to play for Clare to choose club match and by changing fixture it would make decision easier and help most out concerned. where do you think junior players come from. do you think most of bridge u16 are from tir og. There should be and has to be co operation between both leagues it's not bout pull or rigging fixtures but to the anti brigade it makes better propaganda reading
Maybe there's truth in the rumour that bridge heard avenue were missing players that might explain offering money to corofin as well

Burren United V Newmarket Celtic A is fixed for quite an unusual kick-off time of 3.30 on Sunday evening. Why is this game down for such a late time on a bank holiday weekend?? Why not one of the normal kick-off times between 11 and 2.30? It's not the first time this season there's been a peculiar kick-off time for Burren in Lisdoon either, are they in a different time zone back there or what's goin on?

Lads can people stop moaning about fixtures.. Every year at agm mr Lydon is voted back in to this position.. If Ye have a real problem with him why don't Ye try do the job for him..get off your butts and try it for a month..For what it's worth mr Lydon won't keep everyone happy all the time but I think he does a super job..also In my opinion the league were right to change fixture and them 2-3 bridge lads who refused to represent their county should be ashamed of themselves and as a club the bridge are a joke to make these lads choose club before county.. As for burren v Newmarket .. Any club can ask for a different start time if they need it for whatever reason.. Nothing wrong with that.. Rant over

second it is a joke if matches clash in first place, resulting in players having to make the decision who they play for, personally i would alway chose to play for my county but dont have any problems with lads who chose to play with their clubs it's down to players choice in the end and i know alot of lads from different clubs over the years who never bothered playing for their county and do you know personally that the bridge made any players refuse to play !!

bridge utd never has and never will make a player/players choose between club or county, the point is they shouldnt have to, better communication between the fixture sectretaries is needed, and funnily enough not one avenue u16 player made themselves available for the county squad as told to me by the county manager..

So lets get this straight, our game with olympic is called off because of the parade in shannon. That is a joke. Why not sunday or monday.there is plenty of time to re-arrange the game.so now newmarket can possibly get further ahead with their game on sunday.
We have to play in Lisdoon on Sunday at 3.30, not ideal, I have to reshedule the lunch I had planned with my mother, as it is Mother's day, and she won't travel to Lisdoon as she hates seafood. We will be missing 7 players on Sunday because their missus/girlfriend's are heading out on the beer and they have the kids. Did anyone think of the mother's of Clare when arranging these games on Mother's day. One of our players has his 4 kids so their 4 mother's can head out. Ridiculous scheduling :)
Is yere game really off because of the parade? We could try and have the parade changed in case Newmarket win another game.

The u17s are in the FAI semi final and the youths are in FAI quarter final over next coule of weeks so alot of big games for the club coming up

A very good game of football was played in Lees Road last night. Avenue 2 Ennis Town Rock 0 but the scoreline is definitely misleading. Some very good football was played by both teams but unfortunately the ref took centre stage. 2 scandalous decisions led to Avenue's first goal and from a neutral point of view it was a most undeserved lead. 2 very bad decisions in sending off a player from each team in separate incidents and then a dodgy penalty in the dying minutes. Its a pity the refs display took away from what was a very entertaining game and Rock can feel very aggrieved at losing. Well done to both sides for trying to play the game in the right manner.

so did rock deserve to win then? cos avenue had the better chances overall, rock had one blocked on the line in the first half is all that troubled jon healy, apart from a good few free kicks that he caught every time,, the 2 sendings off were undeserved from where we stood and it tarnished the game , both teams played decent football and it was a good game to look at from neutral point of view
Avenue had only one chance prior to half time bar the 2 goals and both of there goals were due to refereeing mistakes. I dont like criticising refs as they have a tough job but Padraig Sutton had a bad game. Rock had the better chances particularly in the first half but I think both teams would agree a draw would have been a fair result.

looked to me that both sendings off were the right call by the ref. one for studs showing and the other for lashing out. imo.

It doesnt really matter who deserved to win. Two good footballing sides had a great battle, in the perfect conditions, in front of a large crowd. A great spectacle and promotion for Clare League football. A case can be made for either side winning the game. Its just a pity one of Clares finest refs had an extremely poor game. Its the decision that lead to the first goal that caused the series of errors. A ref often tries to compensate for a potentially bad desision. I feel sorry for the two lads that got sent off. I'm sure they'd much rather the €80 they now owe to the Clare league to go towards Tangy Twisters.
Sutton and the two lads will bounce back from this. Lets hope the cup 1/4 final is as entertaining (without any needless drama). Wouldnt it be super if the league was just starting in March. We'd have it finished in 5 months tops with all the evening games.
Circuspony - Summer Soccer sounds like a good idea but I just wonder what would happen a lot of players given their commitments to GAA. In the majority of cases I cant see players electing to play soccer over Football or Hurling. The league would surely be weakened with the loss of these players.
Re the game the other night, you're correct in saying that the first decision which lead to the first goal started a series of errors and it dominoed from there. Sutton is a good ref and just had an off day but were all entitled to some of those!!

match report on claresoccer.net .. looks like they were beaten by a better team on the day but still a big acheivement to get that far and looking good for avenue teams in future with alot of goods players coming through underage set-up
