CELTIC and the star-studded first-team squad of Premier League title-chasers Manchester City will join reigning Italian, European and World Club champions Inter Milan for the inaugural football festival, The Dublin Super Cup.

The electrifying line up will be completed by the Airtricity XI, a team selected from the best players from Ireland’s top domestic League

Someone forgot to change their calendar...

Those GAA tops are seriously ugly, but a person shouldn't be threatened for wearing one.

Hang on, I wouldn't rush to judge on that one..

One thing I'll say for the Dublin Super Cup is it's good it's pushed back the league's break. I never saw the point of having the break in June when clubs were about to kick-off in Europe. Flora were off the back of mid-season break in Estonia, was a bit of a help for the very match fit Rovers.

It's great Rovers players will not be involved. Hopefully Pat's and Bohs can follow suit.

Can you see many LOI fans coming to support the team? I think ticket prices will put people off. Kills me paying €50 to watch a pre-season friendly. Can't imagine many LOI fans coughing it up and don't blame them.

I envisage large crowds for the games not involving the Irish selection which could have a backlash, weaker side due to European committments of LoI sides - all potentially a bit of an embaressment and another stick to beat LoI fans with. €50 is certainly too much for me though I would like to see the games involving LoI players.

I'm not sure about the crowd mate. I think there's about 10k Celtic fans but can't see any Inter fans and Man City section is the small North Stand and a bit of the West Stand and it's half empty the sales there going off the ticketmaster website. There will be only about 25k there max at the games. Think the organisers will lose money.

Here's hoping the LOI team make a fist of it. The Man United game was a disaster.

Shamrock Rovers are using the Dublin Super Cup to good affect. They'll play Copenhagen away next Wednesday, have the weekend off due to the DSC, play the return leg in Dublin on the Tuesday night and be back in league action on the Friday night away to Bohs.

Ok even 25/30k at the Inter v Celtic v Man City, not a total disaster. Half if even for v LoI at current ticket price, minus our better players and risk a hammering too - i am disliking this comp more and more. Now a strongest possible team out and put in a respectable performance...well i am preaching to the choir here. Not being a supporter of the guest clubs or even the curiosity of seeing the like of Tevez and co, at those prices a non runner for myself and for many of those ive spoken to. Damn sure i'm struggling to get up to Oriel Park for home games..

I think the organisers had to pay the FAI a seven figure sum for the pleasure of organising it, so they'll need to sell a lot of tickets to recoup that. They'll be in trouble if the place is only half full.

True, think it was mentioned as a ten year thing, but it's a big fee to play in a country where fans are not turning out for their own national team because of ticket prices, what makes them think the general public will support this?

Think it's gonna be good craic but don't see the organisers making that much.

Midfielders: Daniel Kearns (Dundalk), Gareth McGlynn (Derry City) Barry Molloy, Ruaidhri Higgins (Derry City), Joe Gamble (Limerick), Gary Dempsey (Bray Wanderers), Dean Bennett (Dundalk), Killian Brennan (Bohemians), Ross Gaynor (Dundalk), James McClean (Derry City)

So this is the remainder of the squad that Rico picked. Both Hawkins and Byrne are injured so not likely to play. The squad is looking very light and we could be seriously embarrassed

MQ: "To what do I owe the honour of this phone call?"
Rico: "I would like you to join the squad tomorrow?"
MQ: "Why was I not selected in the original squad?"
Rico: "Mark, that was the choice I made"
MQ: "I should be the number one striker for the Airtricity XI, not number five."
Rico: "Mark, do you want to come tomorrow?"
MQ: "no"
Rico: "Right Mark, good luck"

This whole idea is a grotesque circus that will do nothing to improve the image of the LoI. The less publicity it gets the better. I still cringe when I remember sitting in the aviva last year watching the previous installment. I hate everything it stands for. All LoI fans should boycott it.

Ticket prices for the Dublin Super Cup have been reduced in the build up to the tournament taking place at the Aviva Stadium on the 30th and 31st July. The decision to lower ticket prices across the board has been taken in the final week to ensure affordability for football fans while still enjoying top-quality football from leading European clubs.

The remaining ticket categories for the Dublin Super Cup have now received a reduction in price across adults and children’s tickets as follows:

Upper tier:
Now €30 for adults and €10 for children under-16

Lower tiers South and North stands:
Now €40 for adults and €20 for children under-16

Lower tiers East and West stands:
Now €45 for adults and €20 for children under-16

Premium seats:
Now €60

With the full first-team squads of Celtic, Inter Milan, Manchester City and an Airtricity League XI all lining up to compete, football fans will welcome the news of lower ticket prices.

Gregg Oldfield, Managing Director at Endemol Sport, commented, “We have made a long-term commitment to running the Dublin Super Cup over the next ten years. In its inaugural year, we want the tournament to be a real success by encouraging as many football fans as possible to come to the Aviva Stadium and watch great teams play competitive, attacking football and experience the match-day entertainment.

“Lowering ticket prices is what fans are asking for and we have responded by offering them a chance to watch the action first hand. We hope this gesture will encourage fans to get behind the tournament and enjoy what will be a great experience for both the players and the fans. Existing ticket holders from the former A, B, C and Premium Categories previously priced between €50 and €99 are being contacted now with some important information relating to their tickets to the event. We look forward to welcoming all fans at the weekend.”

Fans that have already purchased tickets who have a query should contact the channel they purchased from (in-store or on-line) or by email to info@dublinsupercup.com.

With the approval of the managers of Shamrock Rovers, Sligo Rovers and St Patrick’s Athletic, who are involved in UEFA club action during the week, additional places in the squad will be filled prior to the tournament by players from those teams.

So O'Neill, Cook and Mahon are going to agree to some of their squad being involved despite being in the middle of european games?

Are they crazy or is Richardson deluded?

I'm sure we wouldn't mind the likes of Paddy Kavanagh, Gary O'Neill, Pat Flynn or Ciarán Kilduff getting some game time between our European legs. It does make a mockery of Rico's claims that he'd have well trained squad this year playing as a team, as opposed to a bunch of players showing up on the day. They'll get absolutely hammered.

...Lost any possible interest in this farce when the ad's in the Aviva last year were calling it an "Irish League X1". Week before it starts and Rico is still scrounging around for players - so much for preparation and team building

The fact is most of the "fans" there will have zero interest in the Airtricity X1 and most LOI fans will have zero interest in this competition.:o

Be interesting to see some of the players in action that Limerick will be looking at for our romp to the First Division South title next season.

Will be good to see some of the Airtricity XI lads getting a run out aswell.

quite unreal that McBride has been selected. Sure he looks a talent but the lads only played a couple of games in the league. Why not one of Brays centre halfs who have been excellent all season.

Rico making comments last night that he wanted a base of players from one team was quite disgraceful also. Thinking the reason they lost last year was because he had selected from too many teams? Ridiculous, especially considering he has a weeks training this time round.

So Derry have 11 players from 21 now? I wouldn't be too happy if I was Stephen Kenny.

I do think having a base of players from one team (looking at the squad I think 5 or 6 of them could start) will definitely help the team, but it was obviously never his intention having seen his preliminary squad.

From memory, didn't about 5 Bohs players start last year v Man United? Whats the cut off for creating a base?

EDIT; Just checked. 6 Bohs players started last year v Man Utd (including 3 of 4 defenders); Shelley, Powell, Oman, Keegan, Brennan and Madden

Jesus Rico is some spoofer...

Jason Byrne has played about 20 minutes of a match in about 10 weeks, since his original njury in the Setanta Final in mid May. He wasn't fit enough for the bench in Derry last week and has not even played A Championship.

I dont understand why Foster would allow this

Richardson was on the radio this evening insisting that the 'stupid cup' was a competitive fixture. Why is this happening? Why is this man behaving like this? I saw Jason Byrne playing once this year before his injury and even then he wasn't fit.

Richardson is a fool. A damned fool who doesn't but should know better.

Or then again, maybe not. Maybe he needs the money. I haven't been this depressed since Fingal went tits up.
