I watched the 2 minute highlights on their Twitter. He looks great playing left wing back. He’s involved in the majority of their attacking play, cutting inside really well

Good to see him get the 90 minutes and played ok from reports I've seen.

You wait all season for a premier league goal by an Irish player, and then three come along in less than a week!

a Messi finishing by young Doherty, left peg curving on the far post,. just the goalie fingertips couldnt stop his neat pass to the net.. He finished it as if he wears the #10 shirt of Ireland National football team........

Doherty will have made a fair whack of dosh at Spurs ~ ~ Fair dues to him and best of luck how ever it all works out.

I feel like something like this has been reported in every transfer window since he joined them. That said, if they do sign a RB who is clearly ahead of Doherty, I'd rather he went back to Wolves or wherever than be a backup player at Tottenham.

Micah Richards, decents skin and all, but he talks before he thinks and at times the old lockstock quote comes to mind "Look, that boy doesn't know his arsehole from his earhole" - guarantee he knows nothing of who Spurs might or might not do.
If it's true that Emerson Royal has had a falling out with Conte, they'll definitely sell him if possible and bring in another right back, but i wouldn't write of Matt by any stretch of the imagination
They've also got Djed Spence there who if transfermarkt is correct has a whopping 41 minutes of football this season for Spurs. If Spurs do bring in another RB then Doherty will probably find himself back on the bench for a bit. Has another year left on his contract and if it's true is on £3.4m a season.

I think he was on bwtenn 45k and 50k per week leaving wolves, so i would say that figure is correct give or take

the club was originally known as "Athletic Club Sucursal de Madrid" - I was told by a guy I went to UL with from Bilbao that all clubs with foreign sounding names were forced to change to Spanish names by Franco, and Athletic Bilbao is the only that refused

Free transfer to Atletico Madrid. "It was expected to be a loan move but Spurs announced his deal with the club has been mutually terminated". (BBC Football, 31 Jan).

With 18 months left on his Spurs contract they've surely had to compensate him to agree to the termination.

I suppose "we've signed a fat lad from Ireland" wouldn't have come across very well on the press release.

You'd expect so. Interesting to play for Simeone. He demands super high levels of fitness and comitment, though there is talk of Simeone leaving at the end of the season.
I hope it all works out for Matt Doherty.

Not sure why he'd be leaving a further twelve months of big money on the table. Perhaps his agent has something lined up in the summer?

It appears that Spurs were at the eight player loan limit, so they were unable to loan Doherty out. Makes much more sense now.

Spurs signed a right wing back and tried to send another right wing back out on loan, but because they’ve 3 other full backs out on loan amongst 8 loans they had to cancel his contract! Sounds like a well run operation!

I see Atletico's regular right wing-back was suspended for that game, but instead of starting Doherty, Simeone moved a mid across to play out of position. Balls.ie (referencing The Athletic) suggesting Doherty was signed because his agent has strong links with Atletico and not because Simeone wanted him - https://www.balls.ie/football/diego-simeone-matt-doherty-atletico-madrid-545337
None of that is particularly encouraging
