Tidy goal for Doherty to put Spurs up 2-1 over Newcastle. Interestingly, he's playing as a left wing back today. How many Irish players have scored in the Premier League this season?

And a fine assist by Doherty for Spurs fourth of the day - scored by Emerson Royal.

Delighted for him. I found it interesting at times v Belgium there was this awareness I sensed from their players when he was on the ball that he was as technically proficient as them. Which he is. I hope he sustains this.

Great to see Doherty re-establish his reputation as a top premier league player. Was looking for a while like it just wasn’t going to work out for him at Spurs. Goes to show you really need to give some players time to settle when they move to a new squad. The formation Conte plays (with wingbacks) suits him much better than the flat four Mourinho often used to be fair.

A tiny change in tactics at a club, can make a massive difference.. remember Victor Moses at Chelsea, most people had forgotten he was even still a Chelsea player, but Conte saw a place for him in Contes system, and he ended up winning a league with him.

.We're seeing the same currently with Ogbene.. left go by Cork City to Limerick, and did enough to get a move to Brentford.. not fitted there, goes to Rotherham.. doesn't even seem to be fully trusted there.. but has become almost a certain starter for Ireland at international level

If you're the right piece in the jigsaw, you're te right piece.. seems

nasty looking tackle from Cash on Doherty today saw him taken off after 20 mins. He played on a bit so hopefully nothing too serious.

Absolutely gutting for him. The form he’d gotten himself into under Conte and then a stupid, rash tackle like that puts it all on the shelf. Really gutted for him and this is bad news for us. Had become a key player for SK. Dammit!

That's a blow. McClean might be missing for June as well, and it looks like Robbie Brady'll be doing well to be anywhere close to match fit by then (came on as an injury-time sub last week for his first appearance in four months) Enda Stevens did at least make his comeback after three months in that game, so that's something. Only other one of the regulars left is Coleman.

We've spoken about the looming full-back crisis before - it looks like June might be the time to throw people in and see if they sink or swim. Manning did ok last month (albeit against a poor side where he was barely required to do any defending). Cyrus Christie is still an option too. And then some random young players I guess?

I think we missed an opportunity to bring Dan McNamara in for the last set of friendlies - has been one of the best wing backs in the Championship this season. Even if he wasn't capped it would have been useful to get him involved in the setup.

Now we either bring him in in June or we go back to Cyrus Christie as cover for Coleman. Nothing against Christie but we know what his ceiling is and he's around the 30 mark now - it feels like a bit of a backward step to bring him in again.

Festy Ebosele is the other obvious option. Can play RB or RWB and is clearly a talent that needs to be fast tracked into the senior international squad.

I’ve watched Swansea a couple of times in the last few weeks and Christie has been good. Impressive actually. He never really let us down either.

I was also thinking McNamara and Ebosele as the next men up, just a pity they haven’t been brought through properly yet.

I don't think Festy is strong enough defensively to play the position yet. I'd like to see him called up, but more to play as a wide forward off the bench until he gets a consistent run of games at club level as a wing back. Right now Derby play him all over the pitch depending on their circumstances.

In the Scotland game Id have Coleman on the right. They could kill us down the flanks. Not a game to bring in Ebosele to start.

Didn't get a look in today. Emerson seems to be contes preferred wing back.

And by appear in the champions league, they mean in the group stages, or there'd be a hell of a lot of LoI players padding out that list.

Has 8mins of football this season with Coleman only playing the full 90 in the EFL Cup and Duffy similar. All three lads Kenny would see as starters.

Only game he hasn't started in the last 12 months was the friendly against Lithuania so yes Kenny sees him as a starter. Similar as the other two lads. Issue being he can't and shouldn't accommodate the three of them when they're not playing games. You'd get away with one but not all three.

kenny should be gently easing duffy out the door now, him not playing is a good excuse to drop him. doherty is still our best wing back so he'll play

Doherty would be the one I'd be starting from those three against Scotland with O'Shea, Collins, and Egan as the three CBs.

But I would be surprised if he starts v Scotland as I sure most would be?

The back 3 will be collins, Egan and either oshea or Andrew O.

quick quiz question - there are at least eleven Irish players who were named as substitutes in Champions League games for British clubs, but never came on, how many can you name?
I'll give you one - Andy Lonergan, he was an unused sub in the Liverpool game v Atletico Madrid in March 2020 right before lockdown hit

Celtic haven't been in the CL since 2017, so Scales wouldn't be one.

But McCarthy was on the bench against Real this week, so yeah, he'd count.

correct, named as a sub twice - V Kiev and Boavista in October 2001

Johnny Hayes, Willo Flood maybe?

Hayes is correct, Flood came on in the play off game against Arsenal in 2009, and was never involved in the group stages

More Celtic young lads - Michael Duffy, Richie Towell, Graham Carey?

Nope, none of them. Towell was an unused sub against Utrecht in a europa League qualifier in 2010, that's as close as he got

And, as mentioned, McCarthy this week
