Trophies should be worth winning regardless of prize money. As long as clubs aren't losing money I see no reason to complain

A trophy fair enough but my point is that you can have injuries for example monday that will cost 3 points friday and its just not worth it. The setanta on the other hand is worth 50000 so well worth the risk. Also if you have to buy your own medals really is it such a prestegious competition, I think not. Limerick your point is more football and thats great but you need two squads then.

Four more than impressed me in shels team - in fairness Paisley was good last night. Congrats on your win last night but a simple glance at league tables and/or recent results show your "view" on respective teams to be delusional. Really believe that Heary, Bayly or either keeper would not get a game for Shels ? Price has been among the best defenders in premier this season, not good enough for Shels ?
Bohs definitely have a better starting XI than us no doubt about it. But we don't need a new keeper :)

But the bottom line this situation needs to change.:(
Given that the FAI are broke paying for the new Lansdowne, how do you expect them to change the situation? Practical suggestions, not "this needs to change" or "give it more money"

If your lodgic is to be followed "ah were broke" whats to stop the fai saying were giving no prize money next year or 10% less.

I can imagine the fai marketing guys in abbotstown. "the lc is turning into a fare, will you get off your ass and get some decent sponsorship money" "but boss give me a practical suggestion, were broke and in a credit crunch"

"get your banjo and yourself down to grafton street and start buskin, don't come back until you made €1000 euros or your fired, at least at the agm I can say ive increased the LC sponsorship by 10% €11000 for 2012":o

You can if you think you can (get better sponsorship money).

If you dont think the lc needs change.... Irish soccer will be left far behind other Irish sports (I know their is other massive issues to be dealt with)

You may have noticed that there's quite the recession on. Sponsorship money is thin on the ground, and any there is would probably go towards paying off the Lansdowne Road debts.

So who's left for the draw:

Shels
Limerick
Mons
Sligo
St.Pats
Cork
Derry
UCD

Nobody wants an away draw in this. I would think there will be one first division club in the final anyway.

I'd say we've saved money by being drawn away both times so far.

Would be costly though for Limerick to be away to Sligo or Derry or vice versa, especially if it's midweek.

About the same as us or Derry going to Limerick I'd guess.

All depends on the crowd at the game.. plus Sligo wouldn't have to get players off work for a day etc.

Don't forget you'd get a share of the gate. Say we drew Monaghan; would be better (financially) for us if that was in Monaghan cos we wouldn't have the game hosting costs (stewards, lights, refs, etc - more expensive than a bus I'd imagine), but still get the same portion of the gate.

Anyways, personally, I don't mind who we get.

cant argue with that. I feel that its just not worth costing points in the league where as the FAI cup for example would be.

After match day expenses.

Do you omit the question mark accidently?

The uneven gate split is to allow for match day expenses - the away team is entitled to their percentage of the total gate irrespective of how much was spent on the match.

Makes sense. If you don't have a guaranteed percentage you'll get teams spending 100% of gate receipts on bar staff. Actually that's probably still how it works for most clubs.

It would be easy to mock you for this cryptic twaddle, but I will resist:

EA SPORTS Cup Rules
ix) In all matches, other than the Final, the Away Club shall be entitled to 35% of the
gross gate receipts.

Ezekial, you wouldn't happen to have a copy of these rules in .pdf format, would you? (that you'd mind sharing obviously...)

EDIT: to be clear, I'm not doubting you for one second. I just wouldn't mind having a look at them for a couple of other things.

wrong read the rules 35% for the away team home team gets 65% and are responsible for all match day expenses

This is a nice one for City, home draw and we'll have a great crowd. No pressure on us cos its all on Pats coming down to play the minnows. Could be a nice one to put a few quid on cos no one will fancy us to get a result.

Ya i forgot that Limerick were way too big of a club to want to win the league cup.

Its a chance to get to a semi and after years of nothing good happeining ever id love to even get to a semi of a cup for a bit of excitement.

Have to agree with you, it may not be high on many clubs priorities but we aren't in any position to look down on this Cup. All we can really hope for out of this season is a possibility at promotion and a good cup run in one of the cups.

How will you lose money? Expenses can't be that much per game surely?

Cork/Pats game might be moved as we're scheduled to play in Europa that mid week

This will be welcome distraction for all associated with City . Players id imagine will be looking forward to this one .
I'd fancy our chances given that we are at home. Also the fact that its cup football and that league placing usually stands for nothing .
This game could be used as an indicator as to where we are at compared to a side in the top half of the premier .

You don't need this match for that. Both Cork and Shels are better than Galway, Drogheda and UCD. Maybe St Pat's - Bray kinda level (probably better than them most days)

200 people (tops!! unfortunately) at a tenner a head - Monaghans 35% - Match Officials - Ground Rental = Not a lot of change.

Only positive is it's a winnable one and could make a couple of bob from an away semi final against a Premier team, but then Monaghan destroyed us last year so meh.

We'll do it on the sly. It's time we won the LC again. It's been 2 years since we've won it. Completely unacceptable.

For the record, we'll lose money on this round as well. Only 251 people were at the UCD Bowl last night, it'll be half that for the LC game.
