Can't believe you think Kilbane is a better player than Paul McGrath! There is no comparison between them. McGrath was world class, Kilbane has been an average player throughout his career.

Gastric you're not American by any chance are you? There is a serious lack of a sarcasm detector in your genetic makeup.

Definitely better than Maradona though, and probably Pele too the way he used to tear teams apart singlehanded with his magic feet........bit like Paul Green does.

Seriously have my doubts if KK would have ever have been good enough to win competitive England cap had he gone down that road, but he's certainly served his usefulness, though Gareth Barry he's not. Anyway back to the original point I think Barry was England youth captain as a midfielder, broke through as a left/centre back at Villa and then reverted back to midfield. Bit like Clark in reverse only except the Irish relatives.

And except the upbringing from Irish parents and the Irish nationality.

That one string of yours has been plucked with drone-like repetitive monotony.

Was adding to the previous comments in regard to Barry's positional changes in contrast to those of Clark actually so dont get your panties in a twist

No I am not American, Irish through and through. However, with the amount of stupid opinions and silly arguments on this thread, it is hard to recognise sarcasm and genuine crap.;)

Clark has been called into the squad for the game against Norway according to Enda Brady of Sky News: http://twitter.com/#!/endabrady/statuses/3120790027378688 (http://twitter.com/#%21/endabrady/statuses/3120790027378688)

Delighted to hear Ciaran Clark of Aston Villa has been called into the Ireland senior squad for the Norway match.

Brilliant news if true. He's really holding his own for Villa, both at the back and at midfield.

looks like he got the kick in the backside to get his act together off the field, from an administration point of view anyway....

Confirmed on RTÉ: http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2010/1112/ireland.html

Clark has been called into the squad after the latest updates from FIFA this morning indicated that there is still a chance they may be in a position to consider his application to play for Ireland in time for the match.

McShane's pulled out so it looks like he has a decent chance of playing if approved. Great news :D

I see Shane Lowry is on the bench for Villa. Houllier is good for the Irish.

Sounds like he failed a late fitness test so. Reporter at match said that Clark had picked up a knock in the mid week match

Starts 2day again V Arsenal. Looks to be playing in central mid with Hogg dropped to the bench. Presume it was centre half he played in the last game with Collins out injured was it? Houllier must really rate him highly. Dunne playing with Ireland on the bench

AlaskaFox

Hogg, not Hobbs.

He's looked poor so far today, passing has been sideways or backwards, tackling so-so.

Villa were absolutely steamrolled by Arsenal in the first half. Villa centre midfield was non-existent

rebelmusic

Arsenal are all over them, Dunne having his usual game. Clarke hasn't done much, but then hasn't had the chance to

Apologies was doing two things at the same time. That's the problem having to work on a saturday

Dunne was lucky not to add to his 8 o.g.s with the clearance following Clark's poor header.

Is he now playing as an attacking midfielder with Ireland sitting back??!!

rebelmusic
27/11/2010, 1:40 PM
Aye Ireland held back. Interstingly Dunne was sent up forward for the last ten minutes, was a pretty decent target man too.

Dunne up front with Clark playing behind him could be the Irish team's "Plan B" perhaps?

I think losing might have soured his day somewhat, but good goals nonetheless. The first was a great strike. Best player in a dire Villa team.

The match was on too early for me but he does play in midfield sometimes. Then again Pascal Cygan once got two goals from defence.

He was playing in central midfield today. Despite the two goals he played very poorly and I doubt we'll see him play in this role again.

The whole Villa team were terrible today but Clark did well in the last 20 minutes. He has played in this role a couple of times already this season and has given a good account of himself so we more than likely will see him in this role again, especially considering the lengthy injury list Villa have (including Petrov and Reo-Coker) at the moment
