I sent off an email to some of the pubs in The Faroes and here is what I go back from the Hotel Hafnia in Torshavn. Even though it's a hotel the bar is open to all fans.

Hello Poul

No we don´t laugh, we know that you like to drink, so therefor we have taken
every necessary precautions :o)

I can tell you what we do serve:

Carlsberg and Tuborg in a bottle
Heineken in a bottle
Our own beer: Føroya bjór light, Classic and gold on tap

Føroya Bjór has made a special beer for the match, it is a dark beer called:
Green Islands Stout, this one is also served in a bottle.
Føroya Bjór has been given a lot of prices for its new beer abroad.

Our Hotel bar opens at 11:00 am and closes when there are no people left :o)

I don´t know about live music, but I can imagine that there will bee live
music in Tórshavn.

What I do know is, we look forward to welcome you all to the Faroe
Islands.

Friendly regards

Hotel Hafnia
Fía Arge

* Bus-shuttle to and from airport
* Price oneway dkr. 130,00 cash payment to the chauffeur
* Book a seat on the bus via email: minibus@post.olivant.fo

I would just like to emphasise the part where they say "closes when there are no people left." I don't know if they realise what they are letting themselves in for.

For those who don’t have tickets for the game, but who are still going to the
Faroes, you can see the view you’ll have from the “Jew Hill” on the pictures
on this page:
www.soccerandequipment.com/irish-soccer-supporters-faroe-islands.html
---
And could someone explain to me where the term “Jew Hill” comes from and
what it’s all about?

Thanks in advance :-)

If you wrote the article then you're not far off the truth.
It is very politically incorrect.
Jewish people have a reputation for being careful with their money.
Why pay for a ticket if you can watch the game from outside!?

"Irish Hill" is a good name and we'll do our best to make that name popular.

See you soon,
Peadar

You got that with "foot.ie on tour" on the front? That'd be perfect.

Or better still, if you can show me how to put it together myself, I'll stop annoying you! ;)

Well, that depends on how many of you turn up in the end. But the
previous “record” is when the Tartan Army was here in 2002. It’s said that
they were somewhere between 500 and 600. So it looks like a new record,
yes… And if all the 900 of you with a ticket + a few more show up, then
we’re already close to twice as many as the previous best.

But I read on this forum today that some flights were being cancelled :-(
Hopefully, that won’t prevent you from beating the record.

About the “ever” part: Ever is only 13 years in this case, as 1992 was
the first time we played a World Cup or European qualifier in the Faroes.

That's true, yeah. How many would go over usually? Can't wait to haed over myself - been reading loads of stuff between guide books and the internet...sounds a fascinating little country! :)

Fair dues to the tourist board looking for more places for the Irish fans to stay as well!

Usually it’s not much more than a big handful. Rarely over a hundred, usually
a lot less than that too.

By the way, I have forgotten the Germans. They were in the Faroes in 2003
and had 600 tickets. And then there were a few without one also, I think.

Here's a reply I got to an email I sent to a couple of the pubs in Torshavn.

Hello Paul

I´m the manager of the Föroya Bjór brewery in the Faroes. We are supplying most of the beer in the pubs in the Faroes.

Our customer the manager of the “Rex “ & “Eclipse” discoteques and Café Natúr (PUB), asked me to answere your questions.

We can assure you that there will be no shortage of beer during your stay here! When the Scottish Team was here ,people got

some experience. There was never shortage of beer, but some minor faults happend. E.g. speed of serving beer, shortage of glasses for a moment,

and such things, which now will be under control.

The bigger problems will be to get accumodation for 1000-1500 people. The bars will be really crowded, but that makes the party better.

Sorry only a few bars serve foreign beers. As a matter of fact we don´t think it will be necessary. Our beers are of exellent quality. Our product range is as follows: Pilsner lager & Classic dark lager 4.6 % , Gull export lager 5,8 %, Slupp dark lager 5.8 %, Black Sheep premium dark Lager 5.8 % and a Stout specially brewed for the Irish 5.8 %(the last one only bottled) . As you can see the beers are stonger than the beers in a UK pub; we don´t know how strong

the Irish beer is?

The pub “Café Natúr” by the harbor will be open 10 am to 12 pm. There will be live music Monday,tuesday-Wednesday.

4 or five other pubs will be open in down town Tórshavn + Hotel launges ,and some of them will be having live music.

“The 12th man” The Faroese supporters Club, will be having an”After Party” in “Eclipse” after the game and it will be open untill 5 pm.

The Irish will be very welcome there. (max 400)

Please tell your friends, that we think that the situation is under control. Whiskey is expensive here(40 EU) ,bring a taxfree bottle with you.

We look foreward to see the Irish in town.

If you have any further questions, please contact me.

Regards

Einar Waag

This is going to be some craic!

Aye but it is annoying to be let down at the last minute.

Mind you, some of the beggars in Oxford these days are very choosy - they all have better footwear than most people who work for a living. :D

Myself and my skeleton crew of 1 will be on that Aberdeen flight. Flying in from dublin on monday morning at some time. You should be able to spot my misbehaven t-shirt, assuming I get it in time. Otherwise, I will be the one with the tricolour party horn.

Anyone else on the 2pm London Gatwick-Copenhagen-Faroes expedition on Monday?

Our flight from Belfast arrives in Gatwick at 10 and since there's only so much time you can spend in Sunglass Hut, Dixons and avoiding the scamsters that seem to lurk in every airport these days trying to sell you an overpriced ticket for a car you couldn't even afford to insure, a few snifters before departure is definately in order.

For those that were considering fishing

19. Fishing and Angling Equipment
All equipment, including rods, reels, rubber waders, or lures, must be disinfected prior to arrival in the Faroes. Certification by the proper authorities in the visitor’s home country is required. Travellers may have their fishing equipment disinfected at the airport or at the customs office at the harbour in Tórshavn - for money.

20. Fishing Permits
Fishing permits are required for certain lochs. Regulations for fishing in the lochs are printed on the permit. The fishing season in brooks and streams is 1 May to 31 August. Coastal fishing is generally permitted. Please inquire about local exceptions. You can purchase permits at the information desk at the airport or any of the local tourist informations.

Ok Ive sorted my checklist for travel:

- Ive got travel insurance
- Ive a valid Passport and E111 (although its probably useless) :o
- Ive got enough cash plus a back up of a Credit Card
- Ive sorted copies of everything (E111, Travel insurance, Flight references, passport) to be left at home (just in case)

Im sure a few will says its over reacting etc, but if anything were to happen (touch wood it wont) then at least it can be sorted as quickly and easily as possible. I like to be organised :) Mr O'Banton, I will sort out all the details with you soon :)

And just in case someone (and im not naming names  ) needs the irish embassy, its in copenhagen - Phone +45-35-42-32-33

E111? Am I missing something here?

The Faroes Islands are not actually part of the EU, so the E111 is useless there. http://www.oasis.gov.ie/moving_country/moving_abroad/e111.html
But on a positive note, it does mean we can get Duty Free on the way! :D

Babysis
02/06/2005, 9:53 AM
the only reason i was told to bring one, was because i am covered for medical care under the NHS. For the sake of bringing extra bits of paper, id rather have it and find its useless, then realise I need it. :o

Peadar
02/06/2005, 9:59 AM
We don't have the E111 in Ireland anymore.
"Proper" Irish people should look here (http://www.ehic.ie/) for future trips in Europe.

Even though the Faroe Islands are a Danish principality, they are not covered by this scheme.

- Ive sorted copies of everything (E111, Travel insurance, Flight references, passport) to be left at home (just in case)

It's a good idea to scan your passport and other travel documents and then e-mail them to your Hotmail account or something.
That way you can access them from almost anywhere, should you need to.

Babysis
02/06/2005, 10:03 AM
Or i can just leave the copies wth someone who has access to a fax.

I have actually left electronic copies too. But then i guess only "proper" irish people are suppossed to think of that
