Really liked it, loved the new ideas :)

What new ideas??? It wasn't the worst effort RTE have produced but if you're gonna call it original then that's just mad.

I liked the little things:

The little intro to every ground.
The 60 second interview.
The Club profile of Cobh.
The good the bad and the ugly.

youd know sligo fans got a hammering on the weekend cause them and the shels brigade are the only ones moaning.

Good show overall. More of the same please minus the 60 seconds 24 style. The journey with Ramblers was good & should be interesting to see the bigger names. Presenters looked genuinely interested as opposed to some RTE commentators.

I am sure they will show 1st division games later in the season as it becomes obvious who the top clubs are. Picking a 1st division game on the first weekend would leave them open to accusations of bias towards the bigger names.

Thought it was excellent. Very well produced and miles from what we're used to. Very refreshing.

Obviously a few teething problems, i.e replays but overall i really enjoyed it.

You said new ideas. How the hell is any of that stuff new? Have you ever watched BBC or Sky before? The 60 second thing is embarrassing to be honest

For a first programme it was excellent and like the season will only get better later on.You have to look at it from the perspective of a Spurs fan or a Gaa fan who would have a loose interest in our league.Would it be enough to stop them switching off .Definately i would say. Also it will highlight the positives in the league ie higgins free kick at ucd and the bad side ie the poor referees. But that is just as evident in England too.

its not the presenters fault, there is someone standing behind the cameras pointing to which one he is on,so if anyone is to blame its the guy standing behind the camera.

but anways who gives a sh*t if he looks into the worng camera or whatever.

Good show for LoI fans, it's not going to convert anyone who doesn't already follow a team in this league though

Choking at the couple of people here panning the programme.

Guaranteed they'd be first in the queue to have a bigger mongout if there was no coverage at all...

Suppose you can't win them all - suppose we should just go back to the mid-1990s when we got exactly zero live TV coverage at all

Thought it was very good. Liked the informal feel, the bit of banter and the additional fluff pieces. What does it matter that they're copied from MOTD2 or wherever?
Couple of little cribs - namely the lack of team lists, and some slight sloppiness with the captions. Bray Wandedrers? And did the final score caption have UCD winning 2-1 or was I seeing things? However that's nit-picking in the extreme. It was pretty damn good overall I thought. And far, far better than what went before.

jesus god forbid they can have a bit of craic. i thought the informal setting added to the show

i enjoyed everything minus that 60 segment... would prob be good if they just had the interview without yer one.

overall a massive improvement from eircom league weekly... it will go from strength to strength with practice...

good show - i reckon it'll hold the attention of outside fans

so much better than anything else that's been before

rte contractin out to cover as much as they are hard to first div to proper standard too

let tv3 do first div and have rte and tv3 compete in future for premier coverage

What does your third sentence mean. I enjoyed the show I must say thought they had passionate and opinionated guesseds and Con Murphy is very good I think. Must better coverage than Eircom Weekly which was really rubbish.

Some please E-mail in and plead with them to make Roddy cross his legs. As a man who's comfortable with his hetrosexuality, i've no problem saying my eyes just kept getting drwn to Roddy package, it was like the proverbial car crash, where you want to, but can't, look away.

Lets not get carried away. Apart from the time slot and no Paul Osam what was really better than eLW? Music in the background while showing the goals is silly. No replays of fouls, goals, or offside appeals is useless. Looks like I'm in the minority about this but honestly can't see how it is better than eLW.

I wouldn't say it was embarrassing. Sky Sports do something similiar on their Rugby programmes. Soccer AM do something similiar. You might not like it but it's quite common nowadays on many sports shows. I guess they are trying to do more than just be a bread and butter highlights show by introducing some of the personalties in the league which is fair enough. Those pieces are very short anyway.

Enjoyed the show very much. A million times better than eircom League weekly and i liked the little things like the 60 second thing with Ryan Guy and the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Its something that eircom League weekly didn't have and its good to have something different. As other posters have said some minor adjustments and we are sorted! Finally, a highlights programme to look forward too! :D well done RTE.

I thought it was very good. They should do a behind the scenes for every club over the series (ground, fans, matchday experience etc). Pity there wasn't 5 minutes for the 1st Division though

Good production overall. A few silly mistakes but that's to be expected on a first outing. The interview part is a bit rubbish but that's a small gripe.

A million times better than EL Weekly on TV3.

UCD's second - jammyOur second should have been from the penalty spot.

Enjoyed it to say the least. As others have said, replaying highlights and team-lists etc need to be sorted but other than that it was quite good.
I don't think that anybody with even a passing interest in soccer would switch it off or comdemn it as rubbish. Con Murphy was far better than I thought he would be as well, thought he kept it moving along nicely.

Good production. Really professional and a lot of attention to detail. Its a pity it clashes with Live Setanta football and also the primetime soaps.

Its a copycat of BBC's Match of the Day but probably better. I think they could look at behind the scenes too, like the commericial aspect.

9/10 :)

Boh_So_Good
10/03/2008, 9:53 PM
The show was very good indeed. They looked a bit edgy at the start, but that's OK as it was a first night gig.

I would give it 8/10 - but it most certainly has the elements to make it 10/10 in time. The show should improve and they are willing to listen to fans and this should be great.

Well done FAI/RTE.

How about they dance the huchy cuchy whilst debating the merits of socialism in Spain?

It's not our job to think of something new for a sports programme, it is theirs. Anyway I stand by saying that it's a good show for Premier league of ireland supporters, barstoolers will think the actual match highlights look rubbish, especially when played in front of car parks, empty stadiums and hills, and won't be impressed in the slightest. From a First Division perspective I couldn't give two hoots about it. I'll tune in in future if I have nothing better to do, that's about it

I thought it was a good show tonight. I hope that they are viewing the first show as a 'pilot' of a beta version so they will have the chance to iron out a few issues such as the lack of team selections and post game replays. All in all its very promising. I made 2 mates of mine watch it tonight who have absolutely no interest in the ELOI. Apart from them enjoying the show, they were amazed to see some of the quality that was on show in the highlights. That in turn had them switching over to Setanta to watch the Derry game. I see that as a success

Yes, sorry for not masturbating throughout the show tonight and coming on here to tell the tale, apologies to one and all

I stand by my comments, the show will only confirm to barstoolers what they previously thought, the standard isn't great, the matches are played in front of empty stands (or no stands at all) and that not much has changed in the Eircom League in the past few years. As I said, good effort by RTE, could do with more camera angles and First Division highlights, but for the viewing figures they are likely to get they put a lot into it

Rob_the_cat

Cant understand the negative reaction.Taking MOTD2 and Football Focus as a starting base, 1 hour prime time, production values kicked the arse off elweakly with its blue backdrop and Oso. Im a nerd and a trivia nut(cant be alone here), so I loved the 60 sec bit. Apart from the scary bird. I have a lot of time for Ryan Guy after that, 94 Honda Civic! Cant wait for future instalments: what shampoo does Jason Gavin use, whats Chris Turner's favourite position etc. Just one critique - less Roddy more Rico!

But the point I was making is that why are you consistently saying its won't attract anyone new?

Has anybody who posted actually said it would? No, we all hope it might.

Why are you so negatoive about it? Why not just say "decent show, could do with blah, blhah" rather than already giving up on the league....
