im assuming there aren't any bars out that way whilst i wait for my mates to come along? is the area safe enough, usually the hotels are in industrial/rough areas. still though 10 euro for a taxi is nothing.

Reminds me of the etap in Cardiff, i stayed there after the Wales game last year. I was a bit lost finding my way back after the match so having remembered the name of the road, i asked a passing policeman for directions. He basically told me to feck off as, unbeknown to me, the road the hotel was situated on was apparently Cardiff's dirtiest red light district :D

Still well able to get to Mainz from there.

Was wondering that myself. It is down on Sky Sports website as 8 and was in some paper today but RTE had an ad on there saying their coverage started at 4:30 and i doubt they're doing a 3 1/2 hour build-up!

FAI website still has it as 5 anyway

Any German speakers on hand, my pigeon German from years ago coupled with this babelfish translation seems to say tickets on sale Wednesday morning at 8am Irish time.

We unfortunately/fortunately are heading to Berlin on Monday for a few days where it is likely to be much the same. (although we do head to Nice for a few days at the end of the week)

Was really hoping for good weather on this trip, this summer and last summer have been awful.

Those with tickets for Tbilisi who have indicated that they want tickets for Mainz should get an email after lunch with details etc.

Just realised, that this is obviously all seater ie 10000 out of 19000 capacity assume then that behind both goals will be empty due to terracing and that all the fans will be in the main stands

Newryrep, do you know what allocation the FAI have got for Irish fans and if those tickets will be held in Mainz for sale to Irish fans only or can anyone buy them. If anyone can purchase them at the ticket office the touts could have a field day with many Irish fans not arriving until Friday or Saturday.

Dotzy not sure how it is going to work, sent the Ticket office an email last week regarding delivery of tickets etc, tickets for Tbilisi, they came back late yesterday asking to get in contact if I want the Mainz tickets. I did this morning and was advised that emails would be sent out after lunch giving all the details but was told that you would have to collect and pay for them in Mainz. I assume there will be tickets reserved for those Tbilisi bound and you show Id to get them. However if you were going to Tbilisi I would contact them to confirm that you require tickets to Mainz

Heading off tomorrow so will probably pick up Thur morn

Thanks for that. I wasn't originally going to Tiblisi. Couldn't get any time off work this week or next but Mainz is doable in Sat and out Sunday. Sent emails to the girls at the FAI ticket office last week regading tickets but have heard nothing back. I guess we will have to take a chance on getting them when we arrive on Saturday.

From fai

the georgian football federation today confirmed that it will provide the fai with more than the normal allocation (10% of stadium capacity) of tickets for the forthcoming world cup qualifier game in mainz, germany on september 6. Under today’s agreement, irish fans will be allocated 4,850 seats, georgian fans will be allocated 2,500 seats while the remaining seats in the stadium will be allocated to neutral german fans.

Due to fifa’s decision to change the venue for this fixture last week, tickets will only be available directly at the stadium. To avoid congestion, ticket booths will be open two days prior to the game and we urge all fans to buy their tickets early. The location of ticket booths for irish supporters will be clearly signposted at the stadium and fans are reminded that they should bring their passports as identification will be required.

Ticket booth opening hours - mainz, bruchweg stadium

thursday (sept 4) 09.00 to 19.00
friday (sept 5) 09.00 to 18.00
saturday (sept 6) from 10.00

the fai has already contacted all fans who had applied in writing for tickets at the original match in tbilisi and offered them a choice of free tickets for the new fixture in mainz or for the international friendly against poland in croke park on november 19.

Speaking today, fai chief executive john delaney said;

“some of our loyal fans were inconvenienced by fifa’s decision to move the match so late in the day and this is just a small gesture to thank them for their support.”

nb – all times indicated are local (germany).

In all fairness why not give the remaining tickets to Irish fans rather then "Neutral German" fans  There could be some serious touting going on there now

So it is barring the 1000 going to Tiblis a first come first served operation? If so then I am hopeful of getting tickets as I arrive in Mainz early Friday. If I can will try get one or two extra im sure people will want them.

Lionel Ritchie

Hmmm so what's the best strategy for getting tickets before the touting machine swings into action then?

Dotsy
02/09/2008, 1:37 PM
If anyone travelling before Sat from Dublin was prepared to get two on our behalf I could get them the money before they go. Not sure it will work though as you need ID at the Stadium and I am sure it will be limited to one ticket per person.

galah
02/09/2008, 1:55 PM
so does that mean we just turn up at stadium ..show our id to prove it ..they have a list of names and we get the tickets??

NeilMcD
02/09/2008, 1:56 PM
Yeah if you were going to Georgia and you were getting tickets from the FAI and they had offered you tickets for that game, you will be on the list for this game. However I would ring the ticket office to be sure.
