How would Lawernson Know? It sounds like xillob to me. If Venners was offered the job his many friends would be hammering the bookies and he would be 1/50 not 13/8. I have a feeling that Venables was interviewed within the last 2 days. Wasn't offered the job but was giving some indication that the interview went well. His handlers then contacted the Bulgarian FA and put his name forward to put pressure on the FAI. I will jump off the Spire if Venables is appointed Bulgarian manager. I'm certain it is a ruse to put pressure on the FAI.

The action on Betfair is interesting to say the least. First, at around 3pm venners was backed into 1-2 and then within ten mins was back out to 3-1!
Then he was backed into odds-on again, before drifting out to 4-1!
Now at 2-1
Madness, nobody knows IMO

Terry Venables has been offered the Ireland manager's job.
Sources have reported that Venables is being offered the position due to interest from Ireland's World Cup qualifying opponents Bulgaria.
The former England boss is the front-runner to take over the eastern European team.

What will happen will be a Terry Venables rejuvinated tactically astute Bulgarian team, enjoying their football emmensly, toy playfully with a boring defense minded Irish team set out by Hodgson to win 0-0 but failing.

FAI deny radio report
http://www.fai.ie/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2732
The spokesman said: "The report, which is being broadcast on Today FM, is not true. At present, the panel which was set up to recruit the new senior team manager is in the process of contacting potential candidates to set up interviews and it is completely erroneous to suggest that somebody has been offered the position."

lawrenson should stick to what he's good at. which is referring to eng-er-land as "we" and "us" on the bbc.

Yeah I said straight away he did not have a clue what he was saying and Houghton has confirmed there on the Premiership that nobody has been appointed yet.

I think Noely is close to the mark though, suggesting the Bulgarian story was manufactured by Venabales' cronies to put either (a) put pressure on the FAI or (b) give Venables a degree of credibility.
I'm cautious about the threat that Bulgaria poses to our qualification chances. I'd be less cautious if Venables was managing them.

a few weeks ago lawenson's mate cascarino on today fm said delaney was meeting a candidate to offer him a job in a london hotel. this turned out to be delaney meeting with townsend to ask him about criteria for the new manager.
i heard that interview and all cascarino said was that delaney was meeting someone in london on the way to south africa that friday night. nothing was mentioned about offering the job to anyone

Apparently El Tel doesn't like a foreigner being appointed as English coach. Does that mean we should tell him to clear off?

Jason McAteer was on the sofa for Sky on Sunday morning. Is currently the reserve coach at Tranmere but would like the Irish U21 job. He reckons Don Givens will be moving up to assist whoever is appointed and he thinks that will be El Tel.

I am not a ramper here ( I will win small moeny if venables gets the job but lots more if hoddle, sanchez, coppell or klinsmann got it) but a former Irish international was telling a colleague of mine over bthe weekend that venables HAS BEEN OFFERED THE JOB.
He is on holidays at the moment and is due to let the FAI know his decision this week.
You can think what u like but I am confident that venables will either be a complete Non runner or our new manager by next weekend.

Today's Indo is saying the panel will provide the FAI with their recommendation on Jan 22. The short list contains Brady, Hoddle and Venables.
Has there been any rumors that they have spoken to Sanchez?

I backed Hodgson and Houllier at 40/1 (both dead bets now) Hoddle at 12/1(now 16/1!) and Coleman at 50/1. So it must be Venables or Brady.

There is an FAI coaching seminar in Dundalk at the end of Jan. The guest speaker is .....Houllier. Should be interesting if he gets the job or not. Probably wont be decided before then.

how do u know hes not being considered? even interviewed by this stage?
the press know nothing. and most importantly Houiller is in a job. so any interest he has in the irish job has to be downplayed for his sake.

I'd say Stan will be attending.
It's a 3 day coaching conference, costs €60 includes all meals, I don't know what's on the menu (food wise) or if the wine is included but it looks a bargain :)
No big push for any candidate yet. I think we are in for a penalty shoot out.
Hodgson, it looks, was always angling to be in the EPL managers club, worth 4 or 5 times the salary, no matter what team you get.
Should the interview panel have talked with Roy as well just in case he will be available soon?

Venables set to earn Bulgaria offer
January 7, 2008In a sensational development, the hot favourite for the vacant Republic of Ireland manager’s job, Terry Venables, is now the favourite to take over Bulgaria – one of Ireland’s principal rivals in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
Venables is listed as 15/8 favourite to become the Ireland boss in succession to the ousted Steve Staunton.
But the former Tottenham, Barcelona and England manager has now been included on a short-list of just TWO to take charge of the Bulgarian national side.
According to reports from Sofia on Monday morning, the Bulgaria job will be offered to Venables, with former national team manager Plamen Markov listed as a back-up option should the Englishman fail to agree terms.

They're probably a better team in fairness. I only really know their English based players but regardless of personnel their results have been a lot better than ours recently.
Hopefully TV can bring them down a level!

I thought of Terry when I heard the Gospel by Matthew last Sunday and the three wise men. Here's my version (with acknowledgement of the copyright belonging to Matthew):
A reading from the gospel according to John D:
After Stan's departure by mutual consent in Dublin of Ireland during the reign of King John Delaney, three wise men from the east arrived in Dublin inquiring, "Where is the newborn manager of the Irish? We observed his rising in the Star and have come to pay homage."
At this news King John D became frightened, and with him all at FAI headquarters. Summoning all of the chief committee members and scribes of the media, he inquired of them where the Manager was to be found.
"In Bethnel Green of London," they replied. "Here is what the Star has written: 'And you, Bethnel Green, in the land of London are by no means least among the managers of the Premiership, since from you shall come a manager who is to shepherd my team Ireland.'"
John D called the three wise men aside and found out from them the exact time of the Star's publication. Then he sent them to Bethnel Green, telling them: "Go and search diligently for the manager. When you have found him, report it to me so that I may go and offer him a 4 year deal and homage too."
After their audience with KingJohn D, the three wise men set out. The Star which they had read mentioned a place where the manager was. They were overjoyed when they read the Star, and on entering the house (a gaudy mansion decorated in Christmas lights and baubels and with a floor covered in brown envelopes) they found the Manager with his mistress. They knelt down and did him homage. Then they opened their coffers and presented him with gifts of gold (in a brown envelope), frankincense, myrrh and a 4 year contract.
They were warned in a dream not to return to John D because he would deny that the manager was his choice and crucify them, so they went back to their own country by another route.

Monster, Monster doing his stuff. Mind you the nightclub scene is pretty good in Sofia and they have some great players. I was speaking with a Croatian/Aussie over the weekend about Venables time with Australia. Words such as prefer, drill, head and hole were used frequently.

Doesn't it say something that everyone who's commented on this latest article is delighted at the prospect of Venables becoming manager of our main rivals for World Cup qualification? :)
Of course, this rumour will probably have the opposite effect on the FAI and Delaney will have flown into a mad panic and booked himself on the next flight to Spain with a suitcase full of money

According to Newstalk earlier today a "Former international player, who's close to the current Ireland players has said Venebles has been offered the job and he's considering it now while on holiday abroad." They rang the FAI and the spokesman said it's not true and no decision will be made til the 3 man panel return on January 22nd.
