"4" means they had four teams in the competition, and all are gone.

The league co-efficient is becoming less rellevent as the club co-efficient becomes the more important stat.

As long as Ireland is between 30th and 34th we'll still enter the Cup Winners and 2nd in league into the 2nd round. if we fall below that, the 2nd in the league will enter in the 1st round. Not really a big deal IMO. There's no difference in champions league qualifiers between 17th and 49th

Its far more important to be seeded in whatever round you enter at. Club co- efficients are made up of 20% of the national co-efficient, and whatever points the clubs earn themselves. In previous year Shels, Derry and Pats all earned a full point for drawing in the UEFA Cup 1st round proper. Pats will have this next year, and the year after (then it’s gone)

Now clubs earn points for themselves for reaching particular rounds.

Champions League
Eliminated in 2nd round - 1

Europa League
Eliminated in 1st round - 0.25
Eliminated in 2nd round - 0.5
Eliminated in 3rd round - 1
Eliminated in Play off - 1.5

Rovers get a guaranteed 2 for reaching Europa group stages (ie only a difference of 0.5 from losing the play off) but every point earned now will count towards the national co-efficient and the club co-efficient. A win for Rovers would give them an extra 2.1, a draw would give them 1.05 (ie the 2 or 1 for the result, and the added bit of the national co-efficient)

At the moment the ranks for Ireland next year are;
Pats 4.975
Rovers 4.475
Bohs 3.975
Sligo 2.725
Derry 2.475
Dundalk 1.975
Anyone else 1.475

To show this in context, Rovers were the lowest seeds in the Champions League QR2 with a rank of 2.741. If any of Pats, Rovers or Bohs win the league (I know, I know) they’ll be safely seeded. Sligo or Derry might be.

IN the Europa League the lowest seeds for each round were
QR 1; 1.700
QR 2; 3.224
QR 3; 6.833
QR 4; 15.850 (Partizan Belgrade btw)

So from Pats to Derry would be likely seeded in QR 1, Dundalk would be a maybe, and anyone else (potential cup runners up if there’s double winners enter here) wouldn’t be.

In QR 2 Pats, Rovers and Bohs would likely be seeded. Sligo, Derry, Dundalk and the rest wouldn’t be

Rovers winning a game in the group stages adds 0.1 to the co-efficient of other clubs, while a draw would add 0.05

What was the lowest co-efficient of the seeded teams in CL Q3?

6.833 (http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/seedel2011.html)

(Or 8.640 (http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/seedcl2011.html) in the Champions' League)

The league would have to climb to 15th for the league's champions to note any difference.

In the Europa League, being in the top 34 has league second EL representative joining the second round qulifier instead of the first. 27th is the target for our Cup winner to start in the third round. Sligo got there this year as the EL champions are in the Champions League so leagues 28th and 29th had their cup winners forwarded to the third round.

Getting to and being in the top 27 consistently will be a great position for the league to be in. The FAI Cup will have a great added edge with the winner joining ELQ3.

I disagree completely. Its far better for clubs to enter at QR2 and be seeded and have a chance to earn points, then it is to enter at QR3 and be unseeded every time (For example, what good did it do Sligo entering in QR3 only to face a great Ukrainian side, and leave Europe without winning a tie)

Agree with Dodge, we need seeded teams in the earlier rounds contributing points - just to maintain our current position. It's swings and roundabouts :D

But while the club points are important for seeding, the country co-efficient is still relevant, if Maribor can out perform Rovers then Slovenia will start next year in 33rd with us in 34th. But our clubs starting in earlier rounds might not be a bad thing! (my head hurts)

Also I keep asking and we've been told of assurances from the fai, if Derry qualify, but anyone aware of the situation on retaining those 2.475 club co-efficient points?

NO clue on Derry tbh. I'm just going on the figures

It is swings and roundabouts in this situation. If clubs are starting in the early rounds, they will pick up points but aren't likely to get too far. Pick up those points, the league can gain the position for CW entering ELQ3 but then not picking up points likes Sligo sees a drop back. With progression though the likes of Sligo, Pat's and possibly Derry entering ELQ3 could handle the sitution better and get through to the play-offs.

Definetly agree. Puls we had to go and spend a load of money on upgrading the ground to play the QR3. Where as the ground would have been fine for a QR2 game.

Em, the idea is that you win the Qr2, so you'd have had to upgrade it anyway...
