Anybody going? I have tickets for the first game in Bordeaux and am thinking of making a 2 week holiday out of it. Fly to Carcassonne and train it up. I was contemplating trying to get tickets for the French/Argentina games but it seems a good few touts have their hands on the tickets now.
The only bummer is that I'll miss the Slovakian game on the Saturday.
Do we have a chance of making the semi's? I think if we avoid New Zealand
(have to hope we top group D) then we have as good as chance as anyone in making the final

too late for Irish tickets but if you are interested there are still some available for other games including the last time I looked All Blacks V Scotland in Edinburgh. Ticketmaster is the offical ticket outlet or get on to the offical RWC website direct.

Argentina & France will be diffiuclut to get unless from a tout, the two other games in Bordeaux should be handy enough, not a huge demand, I know of a few people who bought the 4 game package and have subsequently offloaded the 2 "lesser" games for face value

I had the chance of getting the 4 game package but dithered waiting on people saying yes to going......... :( NEVER EVER AGAIN. I'm just gonna buy first, ask later!
At a guess I reckon:
A - 1st South Africa, 2nd INGERLAND
B - 1st Australia 2nd Wales
C - 1st New Zealand 2nd Italy
D - 1st/2nd France/Ireland.
We have to make sure we get the French back for Croke Park and let them end up having to play the All Blacks! The Argies worry me but I'm hoping our back line can make the difference on the day.

I am going to georgia ireland in bordeaux and to the cardiff quarter final. have to admit to being very downbeat about this world cup. I see us beating neither France nor New Zealand and going home in the quarters.

31/05/2007, 1:14 PM
where did you buy them?
off ticketmaster. They released a small batch of tickets this morning (10am). I had to buy single seats but it turns out they are next to each other :). By and large only the expensive stuff was left.

ya saw on teh world cup site they are cheaper slightly.
You lot must be cursing your luck at getting Argentina in the pool stage. I'd say there's a real risk you might go out at that stage, although personally I think it will be the French who get the nasty shock! I'm very confident of Argentina getting through personally.
As for Wales I feel we can possibly win our pool with Australia being weak. With England or South Africa then in the quarter final the semi-finals aren't out of the question if we're on form at the time, which considering our side is probably as weak as it's been in a while, would be quite an effort.

South Africans seem to be pretty confident that they're the nearest challengers to New Zealand..it's between them and France methinks.

I notice this was posted before the weekends games ;)
SA are probably the 2nd/3rd favourites, they're coming good for the right time, 2 sides in the Super 14 final, I know the NZ sides rested their AB's in the first few rounds but it's still a huge achievement. Surprisingly for the Boks I think their props may be a weak point and they're still chopping & changing 9 & 10 thanks in part to the quota system but also a lot of indecision from management, apart from that Habana is like an olympic sprinter, their back row is 2nd only to the All Blacks imho & Bringing Montgomery back at Full Back has been a wise move, the old head behind a relatively young 3/4 works well.

This pub could well be showing the Ireland - Slovakia match in Bordeaux the night before the Namibia game :)

But who out of that four?
New Zealand should walk away with it blindfolded, but I don't think they will..South Africa can win it, but them being 'away' will always stop me from confidently backing them...noone knows which France will turn up and Ireland...well..
How the Tri Nations goes will probably make me decide

I thought the Aussies were unlucky today. Two excellent drop goals to win it though and an exciting game. Let's hope next week lives up to this one!

The Boks were poor compared to their recent form, They will need to up their game for the All-Blacks visit.
Still think they just about deserved the win, the Wallabies play a clever spoiling & tactical game but the Boks were very very indecisive, kept try to go through the forwards when they have enough pace outside to burn off most teams.
SA battered the Aussies last week but still lucky to win.
I think Australia are a good outside bet for the WC as they have great defence & effective going forward.

Almost entirely forwards so far doing the analysis. They've said that they will announce a few backs for the panel as well.

All live games will be hosted by Matt Cooper, presenter of The Last Word on Today FM. Matt will be joined in studio by three pundits for each game including Paul Wallace, Trevor Brennan, Jim Glennon, Michael Cheika, Jim Williams and Victor Costello. The commentary team is Conor McNamara (BBC Radio Five Live) and Phillip Matthews (Former Irish international).

Details of Setanta's coverage
O'Connell, the Munster and Ireland lock who is Setanta's Rugby Ambassador, was joined at the Anglesea Road venue by presenters Daire O'Brien and Paul Dempsey and rugby commentators Fred Cogley and Connor Morris to announce details of Setanta's RWC coverage.
Setanta's commentary and analysis team for the Rugby World Cup will also include Ciaran Fitzgerald, Matt Williams, Donal Lenihan, Liam Toland, Neil Francis, Mark Robson, Nigel Starmer Smith and Emmet Byrne.
Ciaran Fitzgerald, the former Ireland and Lions captain, and Matt Williams, who previously coached Leinster and Scotland, are new additions to the Setanta line-up.

Can't believe Cogley can still get a job out of his son...

Don't like the sound of that. Conor MockNamora will be doing his best to out-Ryle Ryle Nugent and Cogley was past it 20 years ago, pure nepotism.
I remember seeing Cooper presenting rugby before (possibly on Setanta?) and he was poor.
Glad I'm going to a lot of the games and won't need to watch the guff on TV. :)

Didnt wat to start a new thread on predictions but this is mine for groups, hope im right about Itlay and wrong about ireland but i think france at home is very difficult and the argiantian scrum, lineout and mauling are incredibly strong, have a bad feeling about it.
I have to turn the sound off if Cogley is talking, worst commentator of all time

LOL, quality. Looking at the tri-nations has given me great hope to see how beatable the kiwis are. Plus they will bottle it. heres hoping to a cardiff quarter final between ireland and the kiwis, and we win of course ;)
Whats the again bit about?? England were in the last final the last time i checked...

rated as no hopers...just the way we like it :D
although the press in the southern hemisphere may rate us as no hopers i doubt very much that any of the teams rate us like that.

I was in Oz for the last RWC and the local Press on both sides of the Tasman had England as no-hopers so I wouldn't read into the press coverage too much, they pander to the readership.
I think this is a very open RWC and I agree with the Wallabies as a good bet, they always get it right for the big ones. I think New Zealand have peaked at the wrong time again, that said they are still the best side in the world. The Bokke have once again too much politics in their squad to win it added to their abysmal record away from home, they would have to beat (probably) England, Wales & France to make the final... if they do make it they are capable of beating anyone.
To say it'll be an all southern hemisphere final is from someone who's clearly not looking at the draw carefully.
I think there are 5 teams capable of winning it but realistically the winners will be NZ, Oz or the hosts. Ireland & The Boks are outside bets but things need to fall into place.

Has anyone seen the monstrosity that is our WC07 jersey? It is utterly vile.
Seen it in an airport (outside Ireland) last week & it seems very heavy & rough i.e. the material does not hang very well. I don't think it will be very flattering on the likes of John Hayes or less than slim fans ;)
Don't care whats its actually like, the green they've used is terrible.
