Pat Scully must be a psychic so seeing as he rang the players at 11 to tell them it was off

You'd think he would have anticipated his ludicrous fine if he was psychic though surely?

Isn't the procedure usually that if the match is doubt that a local ref inspects the pitch at about 10am?

I don't see how it would be in Kilkenny's interest to call it off seeing as they'll be far fewer Rovers fans able to travel in midweek, and by Kilkenny's standards that's a fair financial hit.

Ah so Kilkenny get the money from Rovers recent fines you reckon?

You may be right about the local ref thing, but seeing as the players were well prepared for a no game(nothing to do with the weather), it just shows how bitter the chairman is. Yes Mr chairman, in hindsight Pat Scully should've stayed with Kilkenny instead of coming to Rovers

The average gate receipts at a Kilkenny City game, I would estimate, are at most E500 (50 adults X 10).

The projected gate receipts against Rovers would be at least E2,500 (guestimate of 200 extra adults at E10). Add on another E1,000 in programme, shop, lotto etc.

You are telling me that Kilkenny turned down the equivalent of six home gates to "annoy" Rovers ?

Bizarre:rolleyes:

Are you saying Dundalk's ticket allocation wasn't restricted? Ps, our game in Kilkenny is off

were sent 400 but returned 200 because they couldnt shift them, some reasons were the game the previous week versus athlone had taken a toll on the travelling army of hoops. Dundalk snapped the full allocation up some dundalk fans were left outside unfortunately.

Except that it goes a whole lot higher than Kilkenny City FC. With next week's Cup game meaning we'll have to schedule our home game against Monaghan for mid-week, throwing this fixture into mix will just add a little more inconvienience to our run-in. It all adds up, or so the FAI hope. Expect a few more little spanners in the works in the following weeks in order to give the authorities a 'legitimate' reason for turning down our Premier League licence application.

There was no fans left outside with dundalk . Got them all in i was the last one of shed bus and there was ten guys with no tickets they all got in and other people i know who had none got in .

Lads in all fairness this whole Kilkenny, and the FAI are out to get us bit ye're doing is pathetic. Kilkenny don't have the power to call off the game, and if it was a scam by the FAI to make sure Rovers don't get into the Premier next season, well all I can say lads is that they don't have to go around re-fixing games against Rovers, all they have to say is 'Rovers aren't going up' and it's all over. They don't need excuses to keep Rovers down, they just have to give the word

We had a game called off v Kilkenny early in the day last season too - it simply sounds like the pitch can't handle a lot of rain, not a conspiracy.

23/10/2006, 12:15 PM
The only flaw with all this conspiracy theory stuff is that the FAI and/or Eircom League officials wouldn't be competent enough to pull it off. They would have asked for the pitch inspection to be done on Sunday morning.

Does anyone know when the results of the IAG presentations and the rest of the scoring towards next years league will be announced?

It could potentially make for an exciting end for mid-table clubs in both divisions too, if say with 3 or 4 games to go they know they needed to win X games to boost their 4 year average by the amount necessary.

Or would that be beyond the FAI (or the sceptics might say, would that not suit the FAI??)

Schumi
23/10/2006, 12:58 PM
Kilkenny's pitch is always **** once we get near the winter. If this is a conspiracy, it's been well planned in advance.

What nonsense about conspiracy theories. It ****ed rain friday night in Kilkenny and not only was our game off but so was the junior football schedule ruined down there too.

Also the Kilkenny chairman wasnt even in the country.

Given the fact that the pitch was built in a swampy area its hardly a surprise. Comparing the weather to a shower in june is daft too for obvious reasons.

Game should be played next monday if there's a result in the Cup game friday.

Dundalk were a disgrace tonight v Mons, deserved nothing out of the game, played like a side seeing out the season, sickening to watch as the effort was so poor.

Rovers odds on to win the title now, times you have to stand up and be counted, we didnt tonight, total failure to deal with a mid/lower lge team, that and a total of 2 points gained from rovers all season = game over.

No argument with the outcome

I can't argue with that too much. If we were still playing we wouldn't have scored. Philly and Finn were really missed tonight. When I seen the 12 minutes of injury time going up I thought we had to score but no...

If we do finish second it will be some laugh taking part in this joke playoff! :D

0-2 win in Limerick, Dundalk losing where I had a feeling they might and Galway surprisingly drawing.......good night all round

If I was to complain it would be that the referee's assistant had his chance to assist the referee in the elbow in the back of the neck on Shiels in the second half, but kept his flag down and instead just stood there. Cop out.

Looks like its rovers title. They need to slip up in two matches now. Leagues arnt won in one night so last night isnt the reason we lost it it was the 7 losses out of the first 11 games. Rovers were the most consistant team of the season(with a little bit of luck along the way) so they deserve to win it.

Passive

Rovers were the most consistant team of the season

I think that's a fair assessment. We haven't been out of the top three all season and probably spent longer in the top spot than any other club. And that's with a three point deduction.

You have to credit Dundalk though, once they lost their 8th game of the season I thought they were gone. They really came together in the second half of the season.

It's not over yet, but after last night I think it's fair to say that we have one hand on the trophy.

We would like to thank Monaghan for their generosity by beating them on Tuesday. Not much point for Dundalk to win in Galway, and then lose in Monaghan. Galway have bottled it too. The "advantage" and "momentum" they had from their win over us, such as it was, has been wiped out by their failure to win at home since, and our perfect form when the questions needed answering.

It is as good as over at this stage. 5 wins on the spin mean that 2 home wins for us next week will wrap up the title, regardless of what happens elsewhere. :)

05/11/2006, 8:07 AM
It's also a massive blow for Dundalk in more ways than one. They really had to win the league to have any chance of getting up.If we pip them to 2nd which we should have on Friday Dundalk will have no chance of getting into the league next year.Rovers have it all but won at this stage but tbh i just want us to get promoted.....winning the league isn't or wasn't the main priority.

As long as the pitch hasnt been cut up by the RL international yesterday i'd be confident we'd have enough to get the three points, though with the league in sight i expect a nervy 3 game run in!!

Well done Rovers, best team won in the end. Our fate was sealed by losing in Mons, but take nothing away from a fantastic finish by you, also your defence was superb with no goals conceeded in last 6 or 7 was it ?

We failed to beat you in four attempts, enough said.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, our goalkeeper and defence have been brilliant all season. We tried so many combinations up front that it is hard to know which was best. I think if we had a regular partnership we might have scored more goals.
Can't fault Scully's professionalism. He has been brilliant. Can't compare him to the joke we had as manager last season - "...oh! it's raining, we better not train today".

TBh honest the reason why I think Rovers won the FD was their manager. I think Galway and Dudndalj have better playerss but tje manager madw the difference.

5-1 Galway were in July- even though thery didn'y win it was still worth the temmer.
