As we await the draw for the first round of the biggest amateur competition, which begins next month, the questions will go out. Can Fairview Rangers bounce back? Will Pike Rovers or Killester finally deliver on their promise? Can Waterford Crystal retain the cup? Were Westport United, Castlebar Celtic, Athenry and Galway Hibs one hit wonders or serious contenders again? What about Ballynanty, Carew Park, St. Michaels, Peake Villa, Evergreen, Ballymun, Portmarnock, Mervue United, Carrick Utd, Clonmel Town? Do you write these teams in or out? Any team capable of causing an upset? Will there be controversy in the competition? Between September 17th 2006 and May 13th 2007, a lot of football will be played and a lot of questions will be answered. Let the games commence!!

TSDL teams that will feature again this year will be Clonmel Town, St. Michaels and Peake Villa. They have all had good runs over the past fews years but all have fell at the final fews hurdles ! Is the TSDL due one at this stage one wonders !

if any of the tipp teams deserve one then surely it has to be st michaels, reports suggest that they're gonna be very strong again this year.

Town and Peake have been knocking on the door for a few years also. I watched St michaels play mid-week and nothing would suggest that they were more improved than last year. Padraig "Foggy" Fogarty has left, but Paul Tobin has returned at left back which is a great boost for them. A lot of youth players featuring. I didn't see any new signings. But it was only the 2nd game of the season so a lot more to come from them.

You might get a local independent bookie to quote you- other than that the national chains, ladbrokes, powers etc usually only quote when it gets to the open draw stage.

The draw for the first and second rounds of the FAIJC have been made. I too have heard on Tipp FM that Saints will play Peake in round two, both sides getting a by in round one. Town to play the Bridge in round one. Full set of fixtures should be on www.tsdl.ie by this evening.

this is all very cloak and dagger - I wouldn't be one for conspiracy theories but if its a closed draw and what were hearing is true about the top teams in the provinces being drawn against each other very early am i the only one smelling a rat. it will be interesting to see the dublin draw. might we be seeing an effort to get it back to the capital

the draw is made but not released yet. something to do with Fai media policy but rest assured that there are no issues with top limerick clubs meeting in the first round at least not in the draw that I have seen so lets just wait and see shall we?

I didn't realise the FAI had a media policy. I rang them today and got an answering machine that said they were closed for lunch today Wednesday 9th August! A bunch of amateurs is all they have ever been. It should be de-centralised and taken away from the mafia in Dublin. They are a disgrace to football in this country. If the draw was made last night, it should be posted first thing this morning. Looks like I'm going to have to contact the sponsors again and let them know the depth of feeling. My third year in a row doing this......maybe this time they'll pull the plug on them. We live in hope.

tipp man
01/09/2006, 5:33 PM
I'm not sure it is in anyones interest for the sponsors to pull out. Its a great competition and needs a sponsor in order to further develop. If you are responsible for a sponsor pulling out you may feel like you have done some good but in junior football sponsors dont grow on trees. Have you ever had to go out and look for sponsorship. It isn't easy. You might think about that before you vent your anger at a sponsor. Save it for the blazers mate.

agree completely !! I was informed by a friend who spoke to a member of the munster council. there is no conspiracy etc ..it was just mentioned given the fact 4 premier tipp teams are meeting in first round..get over it and on with it..

Did you get a new sponsor yet???

AFAIK, its the biggest club tournament in Europe.

Ive never seen a problem with it and its extremely well run. Well done to all involved and best of luck to everyone competing again this year.

SF, hav no info on yer next round opponents.

So, was yesterday's result sounded much tighter than expected. Bunratty didn't suffer too badly after the previous weekend's wedding celebrations then or did they? Who scored the goals? match report? Any other Clare league results in FAI?

It was an alright game with plenty of chances for both sides. First half Newtown could have scored a couple with Cheeky going close but couldn't find the net. Derek Burnes had a great chance to score with nearly an open goal but somehow he side footed the ball off one of the Bunratty defenders and the ball was cleared to safety. Cheeky McDonald opened the scoring in the first half to put the visitors 1 up at the break.

In the second half Bunratty then had all the chances. Bunratty right midfielder "don't know his name" was left unmarked, he received the ball and headed towards goal, he took his shot but Skinny made a great save to deny him a goal. Pa Twomey had another good chance for Bunratty when he raced onto a tru ball but again Skinny in the Newtown goal just did enough by narrowing the strikers angle which resulted in Twomey shooting wide of the goal. The bunratty goal came from a low ball into the Newtown box,Newtown defender sliced his clearence and Trevor Twomey was on hand to blast the ball into the roof of the net.........1-1 after 90 mins

Extra time was needed to settle this game and it was settled in some style i must say. Cheeky McDonald scored an absolute cracker "something like Henry would score". He received the ball from the right wing with 2 Bunratty defenders on his back. He backheeled the ball and turned at same time and left the 2 defenders for dead and with Whellan in the Bunratty goal racing off his line he passed the ball into the back of the net much to the delight of the Newtown contingent.:ball:

Final score Bunratty 1 Newtown 2

Beat them 8-1,could have been more - game blown up with 1/2 hour left.
No disrespect to Foynes but they were the weakest team we have played in the FAI for years.

Any other results anyone?

Any info on Rineanna Rovers?
