I wish there were more like him. He's the only Irish lad playing in a country where English isn't the spoken language.

And it's doing him the world of good.

He probably has more Champions League/Europa League experience than anyone in our squad.

According to wikipedia John O'Shea(75) has more than twice the number of appearances in European competition than Sheridan (35)

McGeady gas played 55 games in Europe too.

they've lost a bit of ground in the last few weeks and now sit 4 behind lechia gdansk, another side unfamiliar with topping the table.

fair play to Sheridan, the easy option would have been to spend his career with the likes of Kilmarnock and Motherwell. I bet he's twice the player he was when he went abroad and definitely worth a look at for the international team.

Based on the (small) handful of times I've seem him recently he seems more confident and aggressive that before - plus he knows his strengths a bit better so tends to take up better positions.

In any case it will be interesting to see how he gets on in Poland. I would suggest he will enjoy it...

As an aside, I'm liking the shirt.

I don't know a huge deal about Jagiellonia Białystok, but they are presently second in the Polish league, which is ranked higher than the Cypriot, Scottish, Israeli and Swedish leagues, so I'd imagine they're of a decent enough standard. The club finished 11th last season and 3rd the year before.

Anyway, I hope the move works out well for Sheridan. It's an interesting one. He'll be the first Irish player to play in Poland; a real trailblazer. I hope someone from the FAI will be tracking his form closely.

Not to jump two steps ahead, but this could be a precursor to a move to say the Bundesliga. I imagine plenty of German teams look to Poland to snap up players -- this is a big step up in terms of exposure.

Still only 28 (older in my mind for some reason) so well worth keeping tabs on and, dare I say it, taking another look soon.

He got off to a winning start anyway, with Jagiellonia recovering from going behind early on to win 4-1. He came off in the 75th minute but had a 'solid' debut according to this report. (http://sport.interia.pl/klub-jagiellonia-bialystok/news-jagiellonia-bialystok-slask-wroclaw-4-1-w-meczu-24-kolejki-e,nId,2363151) He seemed to be involved in at least one of the goals.

Jagiellonia moved to within a point of Lechia Gdansk at the top of the table, who lost 1-0 to Lech Poznan yesterday. Poznan are only one point further back in third.

Goal and assist for Sheridan against Korona.

2-1 lead at half time.

It's down as an own goal on the LiveScore app. They'll go top if they hold on as Lechia Gdansk lost earlier.

It doesn't show any of the action on the pitch (presumably for rights reasons), but you do get to catch a glimpse of Sheridan commencing his run-up for the penalty and the net subsequently rippling as the crowd behind the goal burst into celebrations.

Ha! Although, in fairness it does appear that the more hirsute he becomes, the more his career advances, so I guess we shouldn't complain.

I think this is the final game of their 'regular' season. Looking at their Wikipedia page for 2015/16 there seems to be a Scottish type 'split' after today with a further seven games each.

Just reading a bit more about this. It's a strange kind of format as the points from the regular season are halved (and rounded up if necessary) going into the playoff round. It seems a bit unfair but I suppose there are plenty of competitions where they start from scratch in the playoffs, completely disregarding who have performed better during the regular season.

In this case Jagiellonia retain their one point lead at the top, but the gap to third place has reduced from from four points to two and the gap to eight place has reduced massively from twenty points to just ten. On the plus side they are rewarded with four home games (out of seven) along with the rest of the top four.

Each team plays a total of 30 matches, half at home and half away. After 30th round (at the end of April 2017), league will be split into two groups: championship round (top eight teams) and relegation round (bottom eight teams). Each team will play 7 more games (1-4 and 9-12 teams will play four times at home), starting with half the points achieved during the first phase of 30 matches. So, finally each team played a total of 37 matches. This is the fourth season to take place since the new playoff/playout rule has been introduced.

He scored a well-placed header after getting his head to a good cross into the box from the left corner.

It's half-time at the minute; Jagiellonia still leading 1-0.
