Jagiellonia huffed and puffed but unfortunately ran out of time in the end. Legia should be firm favourites to win the league now.

i watched the last 20 mins. i didn't feel the home side were really pressing for a winner that much til maybe the last 5 minutes. maybe i'm too used to english/irish direct football but there were several occasions when i thought they could get the ball into sheridan but passed it around the middle instead. it felt almost as if they were happy enough with a point which was odd but perhaps they were running on empty.

Jagiellonia really should have scored with about half an hour to go when Sheridan teed up the winger on the edge of the box. Shame as they looked the stronger team. Hopefully Legia slip up in one of their remaining games and Jagiellonia take it home.

Jagiellonia did look the stronger of the two, although I suspect Legia were happy to take an away draw rather than risk going all out for a win considering they were away from home and the draw still left them two points ahead.

Looking back, at times I was young and stupid. I was 21, trying to work out how things are in Bulgaria. I got lazy in training and wasn’t doing things right. Even with the language, I was expecting people to always speak English. How ignorant is that?
A bit off topic but just in relation to this, I noticed Antonio Valencia doing an interview on Sky or BT recently and he had to do it Spanish. Thought that was amazing really for a guy that has been playing in England for over ten years.

It was like 'Where's Wally?' trying to find the two APOEL jerseys that Sheridan was talking about in Messi's collection.

Took me a while to spot the ones under the glass floor:
No. 28 Mario Sergio
No. 30 Tomás Di Vincenti

Kevin Kilbane said (https://www.balls.ie/football/kevin-kilbane-on-antonio-valencia-356883) the following about Valencia a few months ago:
It's never really been reported about Antonio - he was basically born in extreme poverty. No education, brought over to England from Villarreal. Paul Jewell brought him - someone saw him, I think it was the 2006 World Cup. He couldn't speak English at all, and that was down to his education. He couldn't fathom it out...so we had an interpreter with us at Wigan for such a long time, who used to sit in the dressing room. So you imagine, you have Paul Jewell there who used to eff and jeff and everything at us. And he (the interpreter) used to interpret everything back of Paul Jewell's team talk to Antonio in the corner. So he'd be whispering to Antonio in some other language. What he's done in his life, Antonio, is just exceptional. And I've got total admiration for him.
It seems Valencia hadn't a word of English when he arrived in England, but I would get the impression from Kilbane's words that that has changed. I suspect the Sky interview was done in Spanish as Valencia would still feel a lot more comfortable and coherent when speaking in Spanish.

doesn't he pay for everything in his home village as well? And I really mean everything, IIRC he owns the power plant, the school, etc

Interesting. Kilbane is great, seems to have crossed paths with everybody, brilliant addition to Newstalk.
Valencia, by the way, came across as an incredibly humble chap even through translation. I suppose the reason I was surprised it because you know he's such a solid professional as well, that it wouldn't be out of laziness or anything.
If I remember correctly, Cristiano Ronaldo used do his early interviews at United in Portuguese, he seemed to grasp the language incredibly well very quickly. He probably had a stonger base than Valencia though I would assume.

Sheridan has scored to put Jagiellonia 2-0 up away to Termalica Nieciecza. Lechia Gdansk lead by the same score with Legia Warsaw and Lech Poznan both a goal up. Jagiellonia need a slip up from Legia Warsaw to have things in their own hands.

Legia were the last of the top four to take the lead, prior to which, the top four were all on the same amount of points. So 20 goals was all that separated Champions' League qualification from no European football at all. Mad stuff.

It's ranked by whoever finished with most points in the regular season, not goal difference. So if they finish on the same points it'll be:
1) Jagiellonia
2) Legia Warsaw
3) Lech Poznan
4) Lechia Gdansk

All four win and remain in contention for the title next weekend, when they meet each other once more.
Sunday, 4th June (17:00 Irish time)
Jagiellonia Bialystok v Lech Poznan
Legia Warsaw v Lechia Gdansk
The situation for Jagiellonia is straight forward - they need to win and hope that Legia Warsaw don't to be crowned champions.

Some confusion over who scored the first goal but both goals have been attributed to Sheridan.

Not sure why the footage is so dark.
Anyhow, his first came from a deflection off his leg after a team-mate took a shot into his path. The ball flew into the net past the wrong-footed keeper. His second was a tap-in from a pass across the box.

It didn't look serious. I was trying to see if he was limping or anything but he didn't look in any major discomfort anyway, hopefully precautionary.

Not looking good for Jagiellonia. They're 2-0 down at home to Lech Poznan after 60 minutes. If they could manage three goals in the last half an hour and win the game, they'd win the league as Legia are drawing 0-0 with Lechia Gdańsk.
As it stands though, Jagiellonia will finish fourth and miss out on Europe.

Jagiellonia have pulled a goal back with 15 minutes to go and, for some reason, their fans have decided to hold up the game by throwing streamers and flares into the box that Jagiellonia are playing into.

At least they'll qualify for Europe if things remain as they are.

Better chance of UCD qualifying for Europe now; UEFA Youth League. We need Legia to reach the groups again and also to win the underage league (they're in the semis now)
Ok, it'd be a tiny benefit, but realistically so would Sheridan in the CL.

Jagiellonia play away in Georgia on Thursday in the first leg of their Europa League first qualifying round tie against Dinamo Batumi. Kick-off is at 17:00 (Irish time).
Meanwhile, I came across this brief Polish article on Sheridan (http://sport.interia.pl/klub-jagiellonia-bialystok/news-cillian-sheridan-w-irlandii-czesciej-zaczepiaja-mnie-polacy,nId,2409014) which seems to suggest that, due to his exploits and rising popularity in Poland over the latter half of last season, he's now recognised in Ireland more by Poles living here than he is by Irish people.
The following is a dodgy Google Translate-job, but you get the gist.
The official website Bialystok club, scoring goal Sheridan was asked whether being in Ireland, he happens to be recognizable on the streets by many Poles living there. Answer 28-year-old, who started his professional career in the Scottish Celtic, it was astounding.
"In my hometown, where many of your countrymen, it does not occur such situations, but in Dublin came up to me and asked a girl: 'You are the Cillian Sheridan, who plays for Jagiellonia? Because I'm from Polish.' The next day I was watching the match in one of the pubs. After leaving the premises the owner wrote me a message on Twitter that the two Poles would like to do with me picture. We can say that after the recent months in Bialystok, I'm in Ireland more recognized by people of Polish, than by my fellow countrymen" - player surprisingly replied, "Yaga" on page jagiellonia.pl.

I think he's only scored three goals so far this season. Not quite showing the same form as he was last season, unfortunately.
Jagiellonia are in eighth position overall, which is six points off first position and just inside the top half.
